From Flower Vase to Film Emperor in Hollywood
#564 - Drink and chat
Night, hazy, the gentle moonlight draped a veil over the City of Angels.
The entire city, colorful and dreamlike, lay in the embrace of the ocean, dancing gracefully, the faint noise lingering in those bustling and lively districts, the tranquility belonging to the residential area showcasing a life different from Hollywood.
"Hey, Anson."
Anson had just gotten out of the car when a call came from behind. Turning around, he saw Lucas sitting in the driver's seat, leaning out.
"If you don't know how to bring it up, you can let your agent handle it. He should be responsible for dealing with these thankless tasks."
Anson thought of Edgar's pale face this morning, a smile creeping onto the corner of his lips as he retorted, "You also know it's a thankless task?"
Lucas remained calm, "Anson, welcome to the adult world."
He paused for a moment.
Lucas added, "Or, I can step in too."
"Ha." Anson laughed directly, "If I need to sign a confidentiality agreement, I'll find the Captain or you; if it's to say goodbye to a friend, I can do it myself."
Lucas didn't speak, but the worry in his eyes was obvious.
The smile on Anson's lips lessened slightly, "Don't worry, I can survive. You should go back to the hotel early too. I know Mom and Dad are waiting for you to report back. I believe you'll give them a satisfactory answer."
Lucas sensed an unusual tone in Anson's words, tilting his head, "Anson Wood, are you threatening me?"
Anson nodded seriously, "Yes."
Lucas: ......
Anson, "Hahaha."
He didn't linger, turning and walking towards the brightly lit villa.
Lucas quietly watched Anson's back.
If he could, he hoped Anson could always be carefree, living in the ivory tower of a fairy tale; but obviously, that wasn't realistic.
Growing up always means facing complex realities.
Anson's footsteps didn't stop until he reached the door. He turned to wave at Lucas, and only after watching Lucas start the engine and leave did he push open the door—
The hall was brightly lit.
Anson looked around. All the lights in every corner of the first floor were turned on, even the storage room was no exception, creating a party atmosphere; but the entire space was empty, appearing even more desolate in the bright light, a sense of loneliness and emptiness quietly spreading in the light.
Only Chris Evans was there.
Chris sat cross-legged alone in front of the coffee table in the hall, two bottles of beer and an unopened bottle of red wine on the table. He stared blankly at the beer in front of him, without moving, without making a sound, immersed in his own thoughts, not even noticing Anson's entrance.
"...Chris?"
Anson called out hesitantly.
Chris suddenly turned his head and looked over, a smile immediately blooming fully.
"Anson!"
"Hey, you're back!"
Anson looked around the hall, worried that someone would rush in from every corner in the next second, "So, is there a party being prepared here?"
Chris scrambled to his feet, "Yes, I was preparing a party, but after making a few calls, I suddenly felt it was meaningless, so I canceled it."
Anson didn't know how to respond for a moment, finding himself unusually at a loss for words, "Uh..."
Chris smiled, waving his hand, "It's okay, it's just that Johnny Depp is moving into a new house and throwing a party, everyone can go, literally everyone, he welcomes everyone to come."
"So, who can refuse Johnny Depp?"
"Honestly, I was tempted too, haha."
Although Chris's words were light and his expression bright, Anson still caught the bitterness and disappointment in his words—
Anson guessed that Chris's friends had chosen Johnny Depp's party.
To be more cruel, they had already agreed to come to Chris's party, but then made excuses to cancel, and Chris realized that they had all gone to another party, not because they suddenly had something to do or because they suddenly felt unwell, but because of Johnny Depp.
This is the Vanity Fair, nothing could be more realistic.
By the way, Charles is decorating for Johnny Depp, that's true, just the schedule didn't align. Johnny wasn't planning to go on vacation to the Caribbean, in fact, he just got back from vacation. Charles will meet with Johnny next week for a meeting.
"But, Anson, are you sure you don't need to go to Johnny Depp's party? I thought you were just coming back to change clothes and then..."
Anson spread his hands, "Chris, Johnny isn't the star tonight, okay?
"If you don't believe me, you can look out the window, there's no driver waiting for me outside, I'm serious."
This was the truth.
Indeed, Charles had received an invitation, and if Anson wanted to go, there would naturally be no problem; but their family had been running around outside all day, and neither Charles nor Anson were in the mood to go to a party to socialize, so they all went back to rest.
However, since Chris had something to celebrate, Anson would naturally keep him company.
"So, tell me about this project, Mr. Campus Heartthrob."
Chris immediately retorted, "Is this dream lover of millions of girls attacking me?"
Anson shrugged, "I know you're envious, but some things are innate, unless you're reborn, there's no way."
Chris raised his beer bottle, "I concede defeat when it comes to narcissism."
After speaking, Chris took a big gulp first, and then, after all, couldn't suppress his excitement and elation, "But, this project is really worth looking forward to."
"The script and the character are really super interesting, no longer a campus romance comedy, but a crime comedy, a group of us students are planning to steal exam papers to cheat, haha."
"I've always fantasized about a script like this."
It seemed that this should be an extension of the millennium-era spy and treasure-hunting movies, like "Ocean's Eleven" and "The Italian Job," super thief crime-adventure movies that had been frantically taking up big screen shares these past few days, and had also extended to the campus realm, only the target of the theft had been switched.
If Anson remembered correctly, this project should be "The Perfect Score."
Chris was about to continue when he was interrupted by the sudden sound of the door opening.
"Chris? Chris!"
"Oh, tonight's man is here, congratulations!"
Looking back, it was James Franco, with a full smile on his face.
