From Flower Vase to Film Emperor in Hollywood
#593 - Sparks of Play
Anson was slightly stunned.
His thoughts briefly entered the world of Evan in "The Butterfly Effect," but unintentionally, they further settled into his past life, plunging him into deep doubt.
Did he deserve happiness?
The mess left by his father plunged countless families into the abyss of despair. His smile, his joy, his happiness seemed to further hurt those families. He had to bear those shackles and fetters forward. If he couldn't repay the debt, at least he shouldn't be happy.
Living was a form of atonement.
For a very, very brief moment, he felt burdened by sin, which made him question his right to happiness.
Was Evan also like this? He couldn't find a way for everyone to be happy, nor could he sacrifice others' happiness for his own. So, he returned to the past again and again, trying to fix things, only to find that he still couldn't do it. Those pains, those torments, were like fate.
Happiness was also a sin.
And then.
"So, now, are you qualified?"
A simple sentence, but it seemed meaningful, pulling Anson from his thoughts back to reality, as if from a past life to this life.
Anson looked at Rachel and nodded slightly with difficulty.
"Maybe."
Maybe this time he could embrace happiness; maybe this time he could squander his time as he pleased; maybe this time he could enjoy life.
Rachel noticed it, although she didn't know what Anson had experienced, she could feel too much weight in those deep blue eyes, which made her eyes suddenly well up with a little warmth.
This time, Rachel didn't hide it.
She took a deep breath and once again showed her sweet girl demeanor. The corners of her mouth didn't curve upward, but she could still feel the warmth in her eyes.
Then, Anson said, "What about you?"
Rachel's smile lingered at the corner of her mouth.
Anson explained again, "Are you ready to open your arms and embrace happiness?"
Rachel was stunned. For a moment, she was caught in a painful struggle—
She didn't know how she should respond.
It was a profound and complex emotion. In Rachel's short life experience, she had never experienced or understood such a predicament; worse, she didn't have a role or a script in her hand. She had no way to study or think, and the performance she presented for a while was like duckweed without roots, floating in the air. She didn't believe in her performance.
So.
When Anson really threw out the key point of the scene, Rachel stalled.
Those panics, those confusions, those confusions, completely occupied her brain.
In the end, she still lacked experience—
At this time, Anson could see Rachel's struggle and confusion at a glance. Although Anson himself didn't have much acting experience, he was still different from Rachel, and Anson had the upper hand from the beginning.
Realizing this, Anson didn't continue to dig, and showed a smile, "Do you still need to perform the audition scene you prepared in advance?"
Rachel didn't notice it either. She felt like she had been on a roller coaster, and couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief, savoring it carefully.
Unfortunately, her brain couldn't function, like a mess.
"No, no need. I'm fine, my audition is no problem."
Rachel was a little frustrated—
It turned out that she wasn't as good as she thought. Aside from those accidents, she still messed up the audition in the end. Even if Anson personally acted with her, she still couldn't seize the opportunity.
The corners of her mouth couldn't help but reveal a little melancholy; but it only stayed for a moment. Rachel took a deep breath and showed her usual smile again, looking at Anson again.
Anson noticed the complexity that flashed briefly in Rachel's smile, "You don't have to always show a smile. I guess your agent told you to do this, so that you can leave an impression on the casting director."
"But you are not a Barbie doll. Before becoming an actor, you are first of all a person, a person with edges, colors, and a soul. You are allowed to show different faces."
A simple sentence made Rachel's smile stiffen.
Then Anson raised his hands, "Sorry, I shouldn't point fingers, I'm being nosy."
This sentence instead made Rachel's smile bloom again, "Like when the audition is messed up?" This was in response to Anson's previous sentence. Obviously, Rachel thought her audition was messed up.
Anson smiled dumbly, but didn't respond, "Thank you very much for coming to the audition."
Rachel, "I'm more eager than you think, believe me, it should be my honor."
Finally, she threw out a small joke, starting with Anson's joke and ending with Rachel's joke, and then Rachel didn't stay any longer, and turned and left.
Pa.
The room became quiet again.
Marcia and Nicholas were still immersed in the atmosphere and couldn't extricate themselves.
Marcia admitted that she had misjudged.
Rachel has an artistic temperament, mixed with unique tenacity and fragility, but you can't see it at all usually. Only under the impetus of Anson's performance, a little bit is revealed inadvertently, but it can shine.
Of course, at the last moment, Rachel was unable to catch the play, which is really regrettable. This also exposed Rachel's immaturity. The resume will not lie. Lack of experience is lack of experience, and the immaturity of acting skills cannot be concealed.
But Marcia doesn't think this is a problem. Anson himself is not an Oscar winner. What they are preparing now is not an artistic work of acting skills. Those immaturity and naivety can be adjusted slowly.
What is really important is the temperament and the spark between the actors.
Involuntarily, Marcia pondered carefully, putting Rachel and Anson in the same frame, trying to construct the image of Evan and Keller in her mind. I have to say, the two actors in the same frame made the little butterfly in Marcia's chest start to flap its wings frantically—
A little excited.
Nicholas had no time to observe Marcia. His eyes couldn't leave Anson, "Wait, Anson, where did these dialogues you just had come from?"
"It's not in the script."
Anson turned around, "Even if it's in the script, she hasn't read the script; of course, I haven't started memorizing the script either."
Nicholas: ???
Recalling it carefully, Nicholas thought he had found a blind spot, but he fell into confusion again because of Anson's words. What was going on just now?
Nicholas looked at Anson blankly, question marks almost overflowing.
Anson looked a little helpless. He was still savoring the audition just now, but he had to pull himself out and return to reality, spreading his hands, "Inspiration, Nick, inspiration."
Nicholas was stunned, and he couldn't help but laugh out loud, "Look at me being stupid, where are we now, what are we doing?" Then he deliberately showed a profound expression, "Art, we are discussing art, right?"
Anson shrugged lightly, "This is Hollywood."
