From Flower Vase to Film Emperor in Hollywood
#96 - Retro style
The audition begins from the moment you step onto the stage.
Marcia was thinking.
Garry was also thinking.
Perhaps, the most relaxed and at ease person in this room was Anson—
Meet soldiers with generals to resist, and water with earth to stem.
Just as Marcia was pondering, Garry's voice came from her ear. Obviously, he was also considering the same question and trying to find an entry point.
"Besides skateboarding, what other sports do you like?"
In people's general impression, auditions are about showing oneself, about testing acting skills. Of course, this is indeed the case, and it is the core of the audition; but there is another situation, which is to understand the charm of the actor through conversation and dialogue, and to explore the spark between the actor and the role.
From the last "Friends" to the opportunity in front of you, both happen to be the latter.
"Basketball. Swimming. A little bit of martial arts. Also, I've always wanted to try surfing." Anson wasn't nervous, having experienced it once made him much more comfortable.
Garry gently raised his chin, "What else? What other hobbies do you have?"
"Drawing. Reading." Anson shrugged lightly, revealing a self-deprecating smile, "If you need me to, I can continue to slowly count them down, haha, I'm a typical person who's enthusiastic for three minutes, I like different attempts, but I'm not good at any of them. My mother really doesn't like me giving up halfway, she's saying now, maybe being an actor is also a three-minute thing."
Half true, half false.
The first half is his situation; the second half is the original owner's situation.
Garry revealed a hint of interest, "So, you still think acting is interesting?"
Anson looked serious, looked down at the non-existent watch on his wrist, "At this minute, yes, it is."
"Haha." Garry laughed directly, "But, knowing everything but not being proficient in anything is not a good thing."
"If needed, I can try to further explore on the existing basis, and maybe I can discover brand new fun. I believe that experience and trying is a way of life." Anson opened up possibilities, in his second life, there was no need to be restrained.
Garry gently raised his chin, revealing a hint of interest, "For ordinary people, this is not a good thing; but from another perspective, for actors, this is an advantage, because the job of an actor is to try different lives and continuously create possibilities in their own abilities."
This is a completely new perspective.
Anson showed a smile, "Maybe, acting is my destiny? A natural-born actor?"
"Ha." Garry laughed, a meaningful look in his eyes, "We'll find out slowly. So, what about music? Are you interested?"
Anson blinked—
Michael.
He knew the role he was auditioning for.
"The Princess Diaries" is based on a novel. In the original book, Mia's crush, Michael, has a band and is the lead singer.
In his previous life, this role was played by Robert Schwartzman. His mother came from the famous Coppola family of Hollywood, Francis Ford Coppola, the director of "The Godfather," Nicolas Cage is his uncle.
However, "The Princess Diaries" was the only mainstream film Robert starred in, because he was passionate about music and had his own independent band. After finishing this film, he went on tour with his independent band, started his music career, and never participated in any role in any film again.
And now, Anson is auditioning for this role.
Anson was a little uncertain about the situation:
Robert hasn't auditioned yet, his audition is just a trial and error on the road to Robert for Marcia and Garry; or Robert has already auditioned, but because of his arrival, a butterfly effect has occurred, and space-time has deviated from the track at this fork in the road, heading to another parallel universe.
However.
Anson had his own ideas. His first movie, his first male lead opportunity, everything came faster than expected, but since the opportunity had come into his hands, he had no reason to miss it.
Marcia was no exception, shaking her head gently, but the smile on the corner of her mouth still rose, "Hey, buddy, you're still a teenager."
Anson's mouth twitched slightly, "Ah, I always forget that."
He was serious.
But—
Pfft.
Following Garry, Marcia finally couldn't control herself and laughed out loud. That chic, that ease, that frankness really made people feel very comfortable. Quietly, Marcia also liked Anson.
Perhaps, Anson's charm could indeed conquer the audience on the big screen.
Then, an inspiration flashed through Marcia's brain and she firmly grasped it.
"Wait."
"Wait!"
"Anson, what hairstyles have you tried before?"
Garry and Anson both looked at Marcia.
Anson didn't know their entanglement, so naturally he couldn't know Marcia's current inspiration. His eyebrows raised slightly, but he didn't answer directly, "A series of tragedies."
Marcia didn't care, because her focus was not on Anson's answer, just a transition to derive inspiration, "Have you tried John Lennon's hairstyle?"
John Lennon?
Anson couldn't react, when did John Lennon become a fashion icon?
But Garry had experienced that era and immediately understood what Marcia meant, "You mean the Beatles' bowl cut?"
In the 1960s, the Beatles came to the United States to develop, setting off a craze. Not only in music, but also in fashion, countless young people imitated their styling and dress—
Bowl cut. Bell-bottoms. Pullovers.
Etc. etc. etc.
That was when Garry was young, he had also tried the Beatles' look, and even now, you can still see many influences of the Beatles on the younger generation.
Marcia nodded, "Michael is a band member, we can completely define him as British rock, and advocate the retro style of the sixties, with a bowl cut, wearing a suit with bell-bottoms, carrying a guitar or holding 'Ulysses' on campus."
"In the eyes of others, he is a freak, a loner, who will not pay attention to him at all."
"Moreover, the bowl cut has a benefit, it covers the eyes. If you can't see the eyes, a person's charm will be greatly reduced, which is also a means of hiding."
As she spoke, Marcia became excited, and the whole idea was completely connected.
"When other high school students judge people by their appearance, they don't bother to pay attention to Michael at all, but Mia knows Michael's talent. She is also fascinated by those handsome guys like teenage girls, but she suffered a heavy fall in the change, and then she realized that talent is more valuable than appearance."
"But I didn't expect..."
