#243 - Shield End
Chapter 243: Shield's End
Joffrey's eyes held a smile.
The beautiful, auburn-haired girl ran straight towards him, her eyes filled with ardent sincerity, her expression charming and eager.
Below was the bleak execution ground.
On either side stood hundreds of richly dressed, armored subjects, countless gazes fixed on Joffrey, conveying emotions of bewilderment, conviction, apprehension, anticipation, hesitation, and determination.
Ultimately, silence prevailed.
Joffrey was not surprised by this situation. Having witnessed the "Divine War" at sea, even if he were to strip the Shield Islands of all titles and fiefdoms and implement sweeping new policies, few would dare to stand up in opposition.
Although he wouldn't go to such extremes, he intended to act swiftly, resolving the issues of the Shield Islands in one fell swoop at today's meeting, ensuring ten years of stability.
Originally, there was no need to be so hasty.
Renly's rebellion had been completely suppressed, and the remaining cleanup work was limited to a few places in the Reach, which could be handled slowly and meticulously.
But now, such minor matters should no longer consume so much effort; there were far more important things to do.
Break through to become a Hero, advance to a Great Hero.
Joffrey silently pondered the precious knowledge he had just obtained. It was only one-third of the complete version, but it was enough for him to grasp the general idea.
Surprisingly, the method of breaking through and advancing was very special, and could be described as arduous and obscure.
But for Joffrey as he was now, it was actually alright.
His existing conditions happened to overcome most of the limitations, with only a few conditions still requiring effort to meet.
But effort was still needed.
And apart from these factors, the greater impact on him was the subversion of his worldview.
The arrival of the kraken had become a unique turning point.
Suddenly, he no longer recognized this world. "Game of Thrones," "A Song of Ice and Fire," these were merely the tip of the iceberg of the world's true face! More of it was terrifying unknown!
It turned out that there were not only aloof, merciless gods, but also many other extraordinary beings!
Compared to the ancient gods, these fellows were more likely to delve into the mortal world, directly interfere with the mundane, and more likely to threaten Joffrey's survival, becoming enemies!
But Joffrey knew nothing about them.
The world had changed.
The transmigrator's cheat of knowing the plot was rapidly weakening, even causing misleading information. Joffrey couldn't help but feel a strong sense of crisis.
The original plan had to be greatly accelerated!
Not only was it necessary to cultivate enough "Heroes" for Her as soon as possible, so as to obtain complete knowledge, but also to adjust the layout of the magic net and expand influence.
He had to seize the Seven Kingdoms in his hands as quickly as possible.
Then, using Westeros as a base, advance into the world! Launch a conquest! Seize glory!
Compared to these far-reaching plans that related to his personal safety, what did the Shield Islands' feelings matter? Time was what Joffrey cared about most now.
The faster, the better; the shorter the time, the better.
The semi-independent Dorne, the popularization of the magic net, the transformation and reconstruction of the Seven Kingdoms, the Free Trade Cities, the Others beyond the Wall…
"Your Majesty, please give your instructions," a soft, charming voice sounded before him.
Joffrey looked at the girl's face.
Falia Flowers, seventeen years old, the bastard daughter of Lord Humphrey Hewett.
Joffrey "knew" her.
In a sense, Mia Stone was a scapegoat who suffered in place of Falia, and the Shield Islands were the land that should have been ravaged by Euron Greyjoy, not Fair Isle.
In the original story, Euron had never provoked the Westerlands.
After seizing the Iron Islands, his target was the Reach and Daenerys's dragons.
The Shield Islands thus became his first spoils of war. Falia Flowers was then made into a "figurehead," and the ending was predictable.
But in this timeline, everything was different.
Euron had fled the Iron Islands in disgrace, with only a few longships and a mere few hundred men. But he had gained a terrifying kraken.
Euron had also changed his target. He first wreaked havoc on Fair Isle, and then came to the Shield Islands.
Unfortunately, Euron had run into the most powerful enemy.
The Shield Islands had avoided a great calamity. Falia Flowers's fate had also been reversed; at least, she would live much longer than she originally would have.
As long as she was obedient.
Joffrey smiled slightly, scanning the crowd, starting with Falia Flowers, "The punishment and sorrow are over. From now on, there will only be joy and grace."
The people looked at each other, unanimously shouting, "Long live! Long live! Long live…"
Joffrey pressed his hand down.
"The best news to celebrate should be said at the very beginning."
The crowd quieted down.
"After months of turmoil, the Seven Kingdoms are finally about to have peace," Joffrey said with emotion.
"Uncle Renly has been captured, and along with the forty thousand soldiers loyal to him, he is being held in Storm's End. Lord Mace Tyrell is also a guest in the city."
Upon hearing this, the people inevitably became restless.
But after a moment of shock, people actually found that they were not as strange or excited as they had imagined.
This was not surprising.
All emotions had already been contributed to the mythical battle in the middle of the night.
And with such power, how could King Joffrey lose to Renly's army? Was not a glorious victory a matter of course?
People just sighed secretly, while also recognizing the great changes in reality.
"The glory of victory does not belong to me alone," Joffrey continued, "All nobles, soldiers, and commoners who support the peace of the kingdom are meritorious officials of victory, and the kingdom will remember every loyal subject."
The nobles of the Shield Islands couldn't help but feel ashamed. In truth, they had not contributed to the war in the slightest. Even defeating Euron relied on the king's rescue.
It would have been better to join the war earlier. Some knights couldn't help but regret.
"There is still a chance to win more glory!" Joffrey encouraged the knights below, "Oakenshield and Goldengrove are still resisting stubbornly. The Royal Fleet will continue north to join Lord Tywin and extinguish the last flames of war!"
What's going on? The people of the Shield Islands all looked at the "brave" Garlan.
Hadn't Highgarden reconciled with King Joffrey? Miss Margaery was even engaged to the king, how could Oakenshield and Goldengrove defy Highgarden and stand against the Iron Throne alone?
Garlan Tyrell remained silent.
"Of course, the warriors of the Shield Islands have a more suitable battlefield," Joffrey changed the subject, "Dorne cannot forever remain aloof, indifferent to the turmoil of the Seven Kingdoms, divided and independent! It is time to complete the unfinished business of the Targaryens! Complete unification!"
Buzz~~
The hall erupted in a violent uproar!
What was the king saying? Dorne?! He actually had his eyes on Dorne!
No one could have predicted this situation! King Joffrey actually publicly declared war on Dorne on Oakenshield!
Even King Aegon the Dragon's dragons had died in Dorne!
The Shieldmen were momentarily dazed. However, most of the captains and officers of the Royal Fleet were excited, taking the initiative to ask the king for battle.
Could Dorne be more difficult to deal with than the kraken? Could cannons and divine grace not take down a Dorne?
Amidst the shouts, the hall seemed to transform into a battlefield.
Joffrey rose to his feet with satisfaction.
Falia Flowers's eyes sparkled, allowing the king to turn her halfway around, facing the crowd in the hall.
"The fleet will set sail tomorrow!" She heard the king say, "As a reward, the lord of the islands will also serve as the governor of each island. Falia Flowers will be reassigned as the liaison officer for the Shield Islands."
Falia listened carefully.
The hall remained enthusiastic, with no one objecting.
