#254 - Death of Madame
Chapter 254: The Death of the Lady
People peeked at the fragrant yet horrifying scene inside the room, whispering incessantly.
“Make way! Lord Regent is here!”
Soldiers shoved the gathering crowd ahead. “Quickly, let the Lord pass!”
Soon, the crowd parted in the middle, creating a passage.
Garlan Tyrell walked past the entire corridor, heading towards his future office and study.
However, this study was now tainted.
Garlan only glanced briefly before averting his gaze, using his eyes to force back the peering onlookers at the door, causing the crowd to thin out significantly.
But many people still lingered.
“Who was the first to discover this?” Ser Stafford Lannister inquired.
“Reporting to you, my lords, it was us.”
A guardsman squad leader with an ordinary appearance stepped forward. Behind him stood nine ordinary soldiers.
“It was exactly like this at the time?” Ser Daven Lannister frowned deeply, his face filled with extreme disgust for the scene before him.
“Yes, it was like this,” the squad leader respectfully replied.
“We were ordered to control the main fort and eliminate hidden dangers, so we arrived first. It was like this at the time, the rebel soldier’s body was lying beside the bed, and Lady Aevon and her second son…” The squad leader raised his head and glanced.
Garlan stared gloomily at the bed. Yes, the study also had a bed for resting. But from now on, Garlan would never touch that bed.
It was truly horrifying. Garlan stared at the bed.
Thanks to the discipline of the guards, the scene on the bed was preserved perfectly.
Garlan had to see it clearly.
Lady Aevon Oakheart’s petite body was weakly sunken into the bedding, half of her face buried under the pillow, the other half displaying a frozen, eerie smile, her gray eyes wide and round, one fair hand dangling by the bed, her five fingers clenched into a fist.
She was dead. Probably suffocated to death.
Therefore, her neck was a patch of purplish-blue, her back arched high, her feet taut, lifting the naked male corpse on top of her slightly.
The male corpse seemed to have committed suicide.
His right hand tightly gripped a dagger adorned with golden oak leaf patterns, piercing from the front of his neck all the way to the back, revealing a sharp blade.
He fell on top of Lady Aevon.
Dried blood stretched from his neck to Lady Aevon’s back, spreading along Lady Aevon’s bones and skin texture onto the silk velvet surface of the bed.
The two of them undoubtedly died on the bed.
How terrifying!
What a sin that the gods would not tolerate!
And it came from the Oakheart family, which has been passed down for countless years, enjoying a great reputation and pure reputation!
Garlan shifted his gaze, remaining silent.
“My lords,” the guardsman squad leader said again, “From what it seems now, it appears that the rebel soldier first harbored evil intentions towards Lady Aevon, and Ser Oakheart arrived later and killed this person, but was later seduced by desire, thus committing such a heinous crime.”
“Perhaps, the reason he committed suicide was also because he realized his own boundless sins and wanted to repent and atone.”
“Hmph, I’m afraid not!” Ser Lyle Crakehall, “The Boar,” looked disdainful. “I think he was afraid of falling into our hands and suffering a more just and severe punishment, and he was terrified, so he chose to commit suicide, and even died on… Lady Aevon. Lucky him!”
The others also snorted and ridiculed, trying their best to show their disgust for such ugliness.
After a long time, Garlan sighed deeply, “Now that things have come to this, separate them and bury them immediately. It’s best to handle it discreetly.”
“Somewhat simple,” Damon Marbrand, the Earl of the Marches, offered a different opinion, “How do we explain the death of Lady Aevon? There are so many surrendered soldiers in the city, and even more civilians outside the city. They won’t have no reaction to this at all.”
“It’s best to announce the truth, to avoid causing more trouble,” the Earl of the Marches said with a serious face.
Announce the truth? What a sinister and ruthless method! Garlan immediately felt a surge of anger in his heart, and was about to refute this unjust act of driving someone to their doom!
But when he raised his gaze, his eyes collided with the cold, sharp eyes of Duke Tywin.
The anger was instantly extinguished by the lion’s gaze.
Garlan looked around, and other than a few close guards, it was full of the King and Lannister’s people, and it was even more so in the castle.
Old Oak, although it was said to be led by him, the regent, wasn’t it still the King’s spoils of war?
“Then let’s do that,” Garlan sighed secretly, determined not to object to any decisions again, and obediently ordered the sealing. At least, before Duke Tywin led his army to leave Old Oak, he would remain humble.
Duke Tywin nodded silently.
The guardsman squad leader began to direct the soldiers to deal with this unsightly scene. Cleaning up the stains, tidying up the mess, wrapping the deceased Lady Aevon and the other person in black cloth, and moving them out as a whole…
“Perhaps it’s not just that,” Ser Stafford Lannister suddenly said.
“Since Lady Aevon and her second son did such an ugly thing, is the relationship between her and her other sons clear?”
Why go so far! Garlan couldn’t help but blush.
“Hehe,” Ser Harys Swyft’s smile was full of meaning, ambiguous and sarcastic, “It’s hard to say whether they are her own sons.”
“Alright!” Duke Tywin raised his hand, “No matter what, let’s end it here.”
No one objected anymore.
Garlan understood that after this incident, this kind of rumor would inevitably ferment and spread, causing Old Oak and even the entire Seven Kingdoms to discuss it and make it a laughing stock.
The Oakheart family was completely finished.
Ding~
The light screen sent Garlan the latest instructions.
So Garlan said indifferently: “Victory is not the end, justice has just begun.
In my name, Garlan Tyrell, 'Regent of Old Oak,' I strip the Oakheart family of all titles, ranks, rights, and wealth.
Escort all criminals to the drill ground to await trial. Especially Earl Mathos Rowan.”
Garlan’s eyes hid deep sorrow, “In the name of the law, I will personally judge the crimes and carry out the execution.”
People looked at each other, without moving.
“You all heard it,” Duke Tywin said to the crowd, “Go and act quickly.”
“Yes, my lord,” the crowd dispersed.
Garlan was not ashamed or annoyed. Now his power had not yet been put into practice, and it was normal for these people to be from the Westerlands and not listen to his orders.
It just couldn’t go on like this forever.
Accompanying Duke Tywin as he slowly walked towards the drill ground downstairs, which had been transformed into a court and execution ground, Garlan asked as calmly and casually as possible: “Old Oak has been conquered, I wonder when Lord Tywin plans to send troops to wipe out the remaining rebels, so that Garlan can prepare for the army’s logistics as soon as possible.”
Duke Tywin slightly tilted his head to look at Garlan, “Not too late. Just wait for the trial to end smoothly.”
Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Robart Royce, added: “And His Majesty’s ‘gift.’ As long as the 30,000 surrendered soldiers accept the gift, Old Oak will no longer repeat, and then we can all handle things with peace of mind.”
Garlan nodded silently.
They were silent all the way until they arrived at the spacious drill ground, which had been transformed into a court and execution ground.
