Aircraft flight tests refer to various tests conducted by aircraft under real flight environment conditions, referred to as aircraft test flights.

The purpose of aircraft test flight is to verify the theory and ground test results, and to identify design indicators, airworthiness and operational performance. The design and ground testing of the aircraft are conducted under theoretical assumptions and non-comprehensive simulation conditions, and need to be verified through test flights.

Test flights are different from ordinary flights. They require some large-scale movements that test the aircraft. Therefore, test pilots have stronger psychological qualities and skills than ordinary pilots.

The test flight content includes a total of nine items:

① Evaluate whether the seat placement enables the pilot to work safely, effectively and comfortably.

② Instrument calibration test: Analyze and determine the position error of the pitot static pressure system and the recovery coefficient of the atmospheric temperature system.

③Flight quality (static and dynamic) tests: including aircraft stability, controllability, maneuverability and stall-related tests.

④Performance test: Determine the best flight parameters based on the aircraft design performance, including tests of maximum speed, minimum speed, climb, range, flight time, ceiling, maneuvering flight, takeoff and landing performance, etc. Tests were conducted at various altitudes and speeds.

⑤ Spin test: Through the test, find out the conditions for entering the spin, determine the model of the spin, find out the method to get out of the spin, and understand the status of the engine and the aircraft in the spin as well as the steep drop in altitude during the spin. . When conducting tail spin tests, sometimes a large load is added to the aircraft, the aircraft strength is increased, recovery devices are added, etc.

⑥Flutter test: Determine whether the aircraft has flutter under various operating conditions or whether it has sufficient attenuation characteristics. Generally, methods such as sudden manipulation, detonating small rockets, or vibration are used to apply disturbance to the wing to measure its response.

⑦Flight load test: Carry out test flight according to design conditions to identify the design load. The measured values ​​are compared with the results of strength tests and strength calculations to identify their safety.

⑧Engine test: To identify the operating performance of the engine and its adaptability to the aircraft in flight. Measure thrust and fuel consumption, test the engine's acceleration and deceleration, the matching of the inlet and the engine, the air starting performance and the engine's maneuverability, etc.

⑨ Airborne equipment testing: including testing of communication, navigation, control and life support systems.
