Chapter 186: Returning Home
After crossing the Taklamakan Desert, Allen became more familiar with the surrounding environment. After rediscovering familiar landmarks, Allen embarked on the final leg of his journey home.
Of course, Allen still couldn't shake off Salu, this burden. Taking advantage of their contract and nearly a month of companionship, Salu stubbornly clung to Allen's heels, insisting on visiting Allen's tribe.
Salu wasn't stupid. His body was gradually recovering, and his strength as a level 13 Shadow Warrior was also gradually returning to its peak. Even facing Allen, this hobgoblin, he had enough ability to protect himself. However, in this wilderness full of dangers, Salu, who had just reached the high-level, didn't think he could just swagger around. Various natural disasters, man-made misfortunes, and wilderness powerhouses could all pose a threat to him. Unfamiliar with the area, he figured it was safer to stick with a native who, at the very least, posed no threat, rather than traveling alone.
Moreover, the time until the Five-Star Conjunction was only a short year away. He was currently in the wilderness, and had just experienced the betrayal of his companions. All his past relationships were no longer so secure. He figured that those few guys who had tried to kill him but failed were probably searching the world for his踪迹, determined to silence him.
Thinking about it this way, hiding in the wilderness, following behind Allen, this hobgoblin, was the best option. As long as Allen was interested in the ruins, he naturally wouldn't miss this opportunity that only came once every few hundred years. When the time came, he might be able to make another contract with him to go together, each getting what they needed, which wouldn't be a waste of him obtaining this secret.
People who mingled in the civilized world weren't usually stupid. Having made up his mind, Salu put in a lot of effort to persuade Allen to agree to let him follow him to where their Greenwood was located.
"After we pass that hill ahead, we'll be in the territory of the Bonecrusher tribe. They used to be the most powerful tribe on the Greenwood Plain, but that's all in the past. Now, the most powerful should be our Greenwood Tribe."
Allen's face showed both pride and regret. If he had known that the tribe would develop so quickly in his hands, he probably wouldn't have signed any contract with that old Bonecrusher bastard. Instead, he would have led his people to kill the Bonecrusher tribe, tearing that old bastard to pieces to vent his hatred.
Bonecrusher's countless actions had ultimately left a hatred in Allen's heart that probably would never be erased. He only wanted that if the contract was ever terminated, the first thing Allen would do was to make the Bonecrusher tribe disappear from this world completely.
Now Allen was very confident. The tribe had 3 advanced individuals, as well as Cole and Irene, two promising new generations. Plus, the goblins he bought back this time, in terms of strength, they had already surpassed the Bonecrusher tribe that had been built up for many years. Of course, this was also related to the fact that Allen and Regis had secretly ambushed half of the Bonecrusher tribe's warriors at that time. Otherwise, with the Bonecrusher tribe's strength at its peak, the Greenwood tribe would have needed at least a few more years, or perhaps even longer, to surpass them.
"I want to ask a question, but Allen, don't be angry. I'm really just curious."
Salu hesitated, but thinking about where he would be staying in the future, this matter would eventually have to be addressed.
"Ask," Allen replied calmly.
"Does your tribe usually use the corpses of other natives as food?"
After Salu said this, he didn't dare to look at Allen, and his body tensed up, preparing for defense.
Allen looked at Salu as if he were an idiot. This question was like asking a three-year-old child.
"Although we don't have the hypocrisy of your outside world, we generally don't easily eat other tribesmen unless it's for survival. Of course, we won't let the corpses left on the battlefield rot naturally. As ingredients, they can still provide us with good nutrition."
"Now our Greenwood Tribe has its own cultivated grain, as well as the hard peach fruit produced by the hard peach trees within our territory. It's completely no problem to satisfy the tribe's food needs."
"It's you. There's no problem with you wanting to live in our tribe for a while, but why should we protect you and give you food?"
"Actually, I can hunt for myself and get my own food. I just need a place to stay next to your tribe."
As an adventurer, Salu had endured all kinds of hardships, and he had an answer to Allen's question.
"Of course, if Chieftain Allen is willing to return my pair of daggers to me, I am willing to do a task for Chieftain Allen for free as a reward."
"If you help me with 3 things, I will let you live in my tribe, and I am willing to make a contract with you to explore the wilderness ruins together."
Salu insisted on following him, and Allen was thinking about how to make this matter more beneficial to him. After hearing Salu say that he was a level 13 Shadow Warrior, Allen had an immature idea.
"…"
Salu fell silent. Three things seemed like not much, but many times it could even cost him his life. He had to be cautious.
"…I can promise you, but I will only do things that don't violate my morals and are within my ability. If the progress of the event threatens my life, I can independently decide to give up."
When Allen suddenly made a condition, silence became the main theme of the journey. It was like this until they entered the night and found a place to rest temporarily, that Salu finally gave Allen a difficult reply.
"Good."
Allen was also clear that the other party had considered this for so long before making this decision, which was already the bottom line he could agree to. He had gained an unexpected harvest from this rescue mission.
When passing by the Bonecrusher tribe, Allen looked into the distance at the village that was always shrouded in a cloud of smoke, a haze flashing in his eyes. The people of the Bonecrusher tribe should have discovered Allen's existence, but they didn't come to check, letting Allen and the others leave. This made a small plan in Allen's heart fall through.
When they arrived at the edge of Green Lake, the hill without the mountaintop of Green Lake Village was already in full view, but the closer he got, the colder Allen's face became. The complete outer wall before departure was now mostly dilapidated in Allen's eyes, especially the temporary earth-gray brick wall built on the east side, which formed a great color difference with the brown of the log wall.
"Ah! ! ! ! Damn bastards! ! !"
Allen let out a long roar, unable to restrain his steps any longer, and quickly ran. He didn't know what had happened in the village in the two months since he left for Thornsburg. But no matter what happened, Allen had already blamed it on the Bonecrusher tribe. Only they would be bored enough to keep causing trouble for the Greenwood tribe.
