Green Monster Epic

#200 - Prepare

“What are we eating today?”

The Green Lake Village's culinary trends not only piqued the interest of the clansmen but also tantalized the taste buds of the orc, Saru.

“How would I know? You'll have to ask Camellia about that.”

Allen glanced at Saru and replied nonchalantly.

Saru hadn't been idle during his time in the village. He spent three whole months helping Allen survey the tribes and environment within a hundred li radius, turning Allen's crude map into a detailed map of Green Field's terrain instead of a riddled mess.

With Saru's help, Allen had located two more goblin tribes to the northwest and due south. However, these two tribes were separated from Green Field by two or three other native tribes. These native tribes were obstacles, preventing Allen from annexing the two goblin tribes into Green Field for the time being.

Of course, Saru had also taken over Jack's role in teaching Erin. However, Saru's fighting style and teaching skills seemed entirely different from Jack's. Erin's skill growth wasn't as rapid under his tutelage as it had been under Jack's, but it was still better than Erin figuring things out on her own.

However, the work Allen gave Saru was disproportionate to his large appetite, at least in Allen's opinion. If Saru hadn't seemed aware of this issue and volunteered to join the hunting team or act as a bodyguard for the two gray dwarves while they searched for mineral deposits within Green Field's territory, Allen might have considered releasing this guy.

“I know that. I think I heard Camellia say we're having dough drops today.”

Phillip interjected from the side, answering Saru's question with a smile.

“Oh, not bad.”

Saru swallowed his saliva and nodded in satisfaction, returning Phillip a bright smile.

“Just eat your fill. I'll have something for you to do in a couple of days!!!”

Allen glared at Saru's expression resentfully, then said with a bit of emotion.

“No problem. As long as the village has good food every day, it's only right to do some work.”

Saru was thick-skinned. He didn't mind Allen's disdainful expression at all. In fact, he found such days truly comfortable and leisurely compared to his years of adventure. His only regret was probably not having an orc woman to warm his bed and play games with at night. After being betrayed by his companions of many years, Saru had felt somewhat despondent for a long time. He said he was recuperating in Green Lake Village, but in reality, he felt a bit disheartened.

The contract he had made with Allen, to do three things for Allen in exchange for exploring the Misty Forest together during the Month of Radiance, was actually Saru's greatest resentment, to settle things with his former companions.

However, after staying in Green Lake Village for nearly half a year, the leisurely life he had sought through adventure now seemed truly simple. He didn't need to risk his life to obtain it, but only needed to change his mindset. Saru, at level 13, was nearing the limit of his strength growth. He probably wouldn't be able to break through to the Legend rank in his lifetime. Now, as long as he returned to the kingdom and joined a noble's service, he would surely be valued. At the very least, he could take on some tasks, save some money, and buy a manor.

With these changes in his mindset, Saru had decided that after this trip to the ruins with Allen, he would return to his hometown regardless of the outcome, bidding farewell to his wandering life of the first half of his life.

“But Chieftain Allen, could you tell me what you need me to do in a few days?”

“I'm planning to take over those two goblin tribes before I go on an adventure with you.”

Allen didn't hide anything from Saru. This matter had long been on the agenda, but various trivial matters had delayed it, and Allen wasn't in a rush to take action.

“Oh, so that's what it is. No problem, how do you want me to help you?”

Saru knew that even without his help, Allen's tribe could easily handle this. The few native tribes blocking the way between Green Field and the other two goblin tribes weren't strong. Even if Allen didn't personally go, sending Flower Snake and A'Xiao to lead the team would be enough to deal with them.

“Actually, I don't need you to do much. I just want you to go with Flower Snake and A'Xiao, let them deal with the opponents themselves first, and then you can take action depending on the situation.”

Allen had been thinking about this lately. He didn't know what he would encounter on this adventure, and he didn't know when he would return. Therefore, he wanted to arrange the tribe's affairs in advance, so that nothing major would happen in the village while he was away.

Currently, the village only had two advanced individuals, Flower Snake and A'Xiao, but to be honest, Allen didn't think either of them was a qualified leader.

Flower Snake usually liked to exercise and hone his combat skills. He was also one of the few people in the tribe besides Allen who hadn't stopped exercising. Since Saru came to the village, Flower Snake had added a new form of exercise, which was sparring with Saru. The two had become close because of this. Orcs were mostly forthright people, without too many twists and turns in their hearts. Therefore, Saru seemed to see a younger version of himself in Flower Snake, who was also fond of improving his strength.

Besides exercising and improving, Flower Snake's greatest hobby was staying at home, teasing the little ones in his family, and chatting and playing games with his partner, Shali.

But besides these, Flower Snake didn't pay any attention to other matters in the tribe. Of course, Allen, as the chieftain and pursuit target, Flower Snake would never ignore and would obey Allen's arrangements. But Allen wasn't so sure about letting him manage the village's affairs.

A'Xiao, on the other hand, was too enthusiastic about management work. He had become somewhat arrogant since his advancement. His eyes had a bit more pride than before, and it had become commonplace for him to beat and scold clansmen who made mistakes. Even towards his former partners and older brothers like Da Shan and Hei Tou, A'Xiao occasionally revealed a bit of indifference, and his attitude was mostly condescending.

This caused the tribe to gradually alienate A'Xiao. Although no one dared to resist the things A'Xiao usually ordered, in Allen's opinion, A'Xiao was somewhat like the former chieftain, Split Claw.

Camellia was good, usually coordinating with Phillip to manage the tribe well, but the only flaw was her strength and status. Although she was a bear goblin, she only had the strength of a level 6 ordinary warrior. And there was also a small problem, Camellia's female identity made it more difficult for her to manage the males. Moreover, she was still single, and she was considered a beauty in the bear goblin's aesthetics, which often made the goblins have some fantasies, adding a lot of small troubles. It's just that everyone knew Allen's fondness for Little Bush, so everyone's actions were still restrained. If Allen left the village for too long, I'm afraid the little thoughts in the clansmen's hearts might not be suppressed.

Even A'Xiao, that bastard, usually looked at Camellia with shining eyes, but because he was afraid of Allen's punishment, A'Xiao was still well-behaved, and at most he would be frivolous with his words when facing Camellia.
