Chapter 220: Gemstone (4th Update, Seeking All Kinds of Support!!)

Allen arrived near the ruins only a few breaths later than Saru. By this time, Saru had roughly surveyed the area and, finding no immediate danger, revealed his true form, bent over, and began searching among the ruins, attempting to find any surviving ancient treasures.

Kicking aside a piece of rubble blocking his path, Saru headed towards the locations within the stone structure most likely to contain valuables. Allen, however, stopped near a damaged statue in front of the building. The statue's exact appearance was no longer discernible; one could only infer from certain details that the original subject was a woman, her arms posed as if holding something. However, one of her hands was missing, and the other had only two slender fingers remaining.

The statue was surrounded by a layer of rubble of varying sizes. Although hidden within a different dimension, shielded from the elements, the stone material still couldn't withstand the ravages of time, having eroded over countless years.

Allen had excellent eyesight. What stopped him wasn't just the statue itself, but also a fleeting glimmer he'd caught beneath it as he ran over. But now that he was standing there, observing carefully, he couldn't find that glimmer anywhere.

Without hesitation, Allen squatted down and began rummaging through the gravel and rubble. As a first-time treasure hunter, he really didn't know how to find valuable items, unlike Saru, who prioritized searching the rooms within the building's skeletal remains.

After digging through the gravel for a while, Allen finally had a discovery. It was a gemstone about ten centimeters long, with a regular hexagonal prism structure, a smooth back, and a seemingly flawless transparency. Allen picked up the gemstone, examined it carefully, and then put it away. Although gemstones were valuable, Allen was hoping for other kinds of rewards.

"Hahaha, look what I've found!!!"

Saru's excited voice echoed from inside the building. Allen immediately tucked the gemstone into his chest and ran over.

At this moment, Saru was dragging a rusty iron box from a pile of rubble. The box was one meter in length and width, not large but seemingly very heavy. Coupled with the stones pressing down on top of it, even with Saru's strength, it wasn't easy to pull it out.

After dragging it out, Saru was dumbfounded. This box had no opening! The seamless design, apart from the rust on the surface, offered no other access point. It was no different from a lump of iron.

"How do we open this?"

Allen was also helpless. He was seeing this thing for the first time too, and after fiddling with it for a long time, he couldn't find a way to open it.

"This is an iron box that requires a magic password to open. But so much time has passed. Even if we had the password, the magical effects attached to the box have probably disappeared."

Saru had been fortunate enough to see something like this before, and he said with some frustration.

"The only way is to find a blacksmith or locksmith to smash it open!"

Saru casually tossed the iron box aside. Even knowing there might be good things inside, without a way to open it, it held little appeal. Then he turned and continued searching the ruins, while Allen touched the iron box again with some regret before putting it down and following Saru's footsteps into the skeletal remains of the building.

They searched and rummaged for another half a day, clearing almost all the rubble from the entire building. Their gains were meager. Too few things could survive the long years. So far, they had only found a few seemingly delicate bronze oil lamps and some blackened gold-colored objects whose specific purpose was unknown.

Saru was searching on a stone platform ahead. Judging from the layout, there used to be a small sculpture here, now only a circular base remained. Just as Saru brushed aside some rubble, he seemed to see a flawless, transparent hexagonal crystal and was about to pick it up when a strong wind came from behind. Saru grabbed the gemstone on the ground, and as he turned his head, he saw Allen swinging his heavy greatsword towards him.

"You!!!"

Saru glared angrily, roaring as he was about to activate Shadow Step, but out of the corner of his eye, he saw the greatsword suddenly stop in mid-air. A stream of bright red liquid appeared on the blade, and at the same time, a figure gradually emerged—the black ape that Allen and Saru had seen before.

The reason Allen was able to discover the black ape's presence was actually a small accident. Most of the stones in the building had been thrown out by Allen and Saru. Now, the ruins were mostly covered in grayish-white stone powder, and the imprints of Allen and Saru's messy footsteps remained.

As Allen continued searching the ruins, he suddenly noticed that in addition to their footprints, there was also the footprint of an animal, and the direction the footprint extended was where Saru was. The black ape might be smart, but it forgot that intelligent creatures usually wear shoes, while animals are barefoot. The difference in footprints was too obvious.

Without time to signal Saru, and of course, Allen didn't intend to signal Saru, following the direction of the footprints, Allen pretended to continue searching for the wealth left behind by the ruins, but in reality, he was looking for the black ape's hidden position until he discovered a fresh black ape footprint appearing next to Saru.

Seeing Saru's gaze drawn to the stone platform, and looking at the position where the animal footprints stopped, Allen didn't hesitate to pour in his Fury and throw the greatsword like a hidden weapon. At the same time as he threw the greatsword, Allen also lunged forward, arriving behind Saru only a breath later than the greatsword.

As the greatsword hit its target, the black ape, revealing its form, was making a hammering motion, just a little away from a successful sneak attack, when the immense force contained in the greatsword staggered it. Its movement distorted, it brushed past Saru, and its two fists slammed heavily onto the circular stone seat, smashing the stone seat into pieces.

Allen kicked the hilt of the greatsword, which was still stuck in the black ape's waist, and the entire sword, including the hilt, disappeared into the black ape's sturdy waist, with the wide tip of the blade protruding from the other side.

"Awoo!!!!!"

The black ape let out a mournful howl, raising its hands and trying to pull out the foreign object from its waist.

Saru retaliated with a thrust, his eyes fierce and frightened, slashing diagonally with his twin daggers, instantly creating a deep wound in the black ape's thigh, severing the muscles and tendons of the black ape's right leg. At this moment, Allen made a big jump, his body bent in mid-air, and his two fists slammed directly into the black ape's weakest spot on the back of its head, in a posture of beating a drowning dog.

A black ape with invisibility skills and agile movements had its life taken in such an inexplicable way. Perhaps, even in death, it couldn't understand how Allen discovered its tracks.

Saru stabbed his two daggers fiercely into the black ape's neck until he confirmed that the other party was no longer breathing. Only then did he raise his head and thank Allen gratefully: "Thank you."

Allen didn't say anything, just smiled slightly at Saru, then walked to the black ape's corpse, pulled the greatsword out of its waist, and cleaned the dirt off the greatsword, as if all of this was very ordinary.
