Green Monster Epic

#334 - Chase and intercept

Chapter 333: Ambush and Interception

After the experience in the valley, Allen increased his speed, hoping to sneak further south in a shorter amount of time.

Those humans were like a ticking time bomb. No one could guarantee when they would be discovered by the demons and then betray Allen.

This was obvious. The demons had occupied this land, and although they had no intention of managing it, the army had already eliminated all kinds of hidden dangers.

The remaining survivors couldn't make any significant waves.

Although it was said that there were still guerrilla forces of humans active in the mountainous and hilly areas with complex environments in some places occupied by the demons, the humans in the valley that Allen saw would probably not survive to reach those places.

Of course, regarding Allen's behavior of not offering assistance, those humans would definitely not keep it a secret for him.

If he were caught again after leaving the cave, they would definitely betray him at the first moment. This was an undeniable fact.

However, whether it was just his imagination or not, Allen always felt that the demon patrols along the way were becoming more frequent.

Several times, he almost exposed his tracks. Twice, he was forced to take action, destroying the corpses of three Quasits that seemed to have discovered him.

In order not to leave too many traces, Allen didn't dare to randomly discard the bodies of these low-level Quasits.

After snapping their spines, he directly put them into his dimensional bag, waiting to find a place to burn them after it was safe.

Seeing that he was getting closer and closer to the human defense line, Allen's pace gradually slowed down, and he became more and more cautious.

Whoosh ~ ~ ~

A shadow quickly flashed across the sky. Allen, hidden in the grass, frowned slightly.

This was already the fifth Vrock he had seen within one magical hour while lying in ambush and resting here.

With his super vision, plus the fact that the Vrocks in the sky weren't flying very high, he could quickly distinguish that several Vrocks were not the same one, but completely different individuals.

If the Vrocks didn't have a mission or weren't in the middle of a fight, they usually wouldn't glide in the sky.

Although they could fly for a short time, the energy consumed was too great, so in order to save energy, they were no different from other demons when they were active.

The fact that several Vrocks were constantly flying in the sky for reconnaissance was obviously not a normal arrangement.

Allen hadn't seen the demons do this so many times in the half a year he was on the Hul'tann front line.

Not to mention the Quasits, which were better at flying and reconnaissance, just like vultures, had never stopped appearing.

The corpses of those few in Allen's dimensional bag were proof of this.

Based on the analysis of the demons' behavior, Allen judged that their actions had probably been detected by the demons.

This meant that Allen's next task would be more arduous, and he had to act more cautiously.

Of course, as he got closer to the demon front line, the number of patrol personnel sent out by the other side also increased. This was also a reasonable explanation.

After all, according to the estimation on the map, Allen was actually no more than a hundred miles away from the human defense line.

If Allen moved forward at full speed without encountering any obstacles, then with his speed, it would take about two magical hours.

Therefore, Allen stayed in this grassy area for a whole day without moving, just to conserve his energy, waiting for tonight to directly pass through the demon defense line and completely enter the human control area.

The red moon slowly rose, and occasionally a few clouds in the sky obscured some of the light shining from the red moon.

A rustling sound came from the grass, and then a figure slowly stood up.

Allen shook off the dry grass leaves, branches, and insects that had somehow crawled into his leather armor, and gazed at the dim horizon in the southwest direction.

Crack, crackle, a series of sounds came from his body.

After stretching his body, Allen took out a piece of roasted meat from his dimensional bag and slowly chewed it, feeling the energy in the food being slowly absorbed.

At the same time, Allen's mind was clear, emptying everything, allowing his physical and mental strength to reach the best state.

Tonight's action had too many unknowns, and Allen had to do his best.

After carefully counting the scrolls and potions stored in his dimensional bag again, Allen finally stood up and began to move his strong steps.

A ghostly figure disappeared into the night sky. Even if one looked down from the dim night sky, they would probably think it was just a ghost.

“……”

While traveling quickly, Allen suddenly felt a warning sign in his heart.

Without even thinking, his feet stomped hard on the ground, and then he quickly moved sideways.

An icy blade directly brushed past his cheek, piercing the air. Apart from a breeze, there was no other sound.

The Bonesplitter behind him had just been unsheathed, and a horizontal sweep spread out from Allen's back, sweeping in the direction of the assassination attempt.

Allen, who had been keeping his spirits up, of course knew that this final journey would not be easy, so he had already prepared to counterattack at any time.

As expected, the Bonesplitter didn't hit anything, as if the previous attack was just an illusion.

However, Allen's sword momentum was not over.

He switched the sword hilt from his right hand to his left hand, and his body also rotated, his arms spread out and continued to draw an arc, expanding the horizontal sweep by more than a meter, and finally seemed to pass by something soft.

Looking in the direction of the friction, when Allen stood still again, an Assassin Imp, slightly shorter than him, was standing more than four meters to Allen's left with interest, saying with a hint of regret: "Tsk, tsk, tsk, I didn't expect that I would have a lucky day too, and actually encounter a powerful Hobgoblin. It seems that he is with those rats ordered by the higher-ups!!"

“……”

Allen didn't care how the opponent ridiculed him.

Since he had caught the figure of the real body, then the Bonesplitter in his hand had already been slashed out towards where the opponent was.

The Assassin Imp grinned, tapped the ground lightly with his feet, and the whole person quickly retreated with Allen's slashing action, moving as lightly as nothing.

When Allen's heavy slash was unsuccessful and about to run out of strength, the opponent directly exploded, and shadow energy wrapped him, breaking through the resistance of the air, and he was about to insert himself into Allen's body, fighting Allen in close combat.

Allen seemed a little panicked.

The opponent was so direct and decisive, which was completely different from the combat style of a general Thief-type advanced class, which did make people feel a little tricky when fighting suddenly.

A pair of slightly inwardly curved daggers were narrow and sharp.

Allen didn't doubt that they could easily stab a few bloody holes in his old python scale armor.

The Bonesplitter quickly retracted, trying to block the opponent's advance, but the shortcomings generally possessed by two-handed weapons made Allen's defense still half a breath slower than the opponent.

In the eyes of experts, half a breath of time was enough to do many things.

The Assassin Imp injected shadow energy into the daggers, and the shadow energy with the effect of breaking the wind made it easy for the daggers to cut through the air.

The target of the Evil Strike was directly aimed at Allen's chest and neck.

The daggers were getting closer and closer, and the panic in Allen's eyes not only didn't increase, but was slowly fading away.

The Bonesplitter suddenly let go and slowly fell to the side with inertia, and then Allen's arms, as strong as pliers, directly clamped hard in front of his chest.

When the dagger had just pierced Allen's chest, and was about to stab into Allen's heart along the thick and strong muscles, Allen's arms finally grabbed the Assassin Imp's arms.

"Hmph, I've caught you!!"

Allen's eyes were fierce, and he was merciless in his hands.

In the wrestling, he firmly stopped the opponent's continued stabbing action, and at the same time, the strength of his whole body and anger were blessed between his palms.

Only the sound of cracking bones was heard, and the Assassin Imp finally couldn't bear the severe pain and let out a shrill scream.

"Ah ~ ~"

The painful cry that cut through the sky was so harsh in the silent night.

It was thought that it wouldn't be long before many demons would gather in the place where this cry rang out, following the sound of pain.

The Assassin Imp's body was tough, and even its skin had signs of ossification.

The sharp barbs that grew backward from the back of its elbows were proof of this.

However, under Allen's full burst of power, no matter how strong the muscles and bones were, they couldn't withstand the great force of his pair of thick palms.

The Assassin Imp, whose two arms were directly broken into two pieces from the middle, struggled desperately, trying to escape Allen's control, and then use life-saving skills to escape.

But he had never thought that the reason why Allen used himself as bait was to end the battle as soon as possible.

Otherwise, on the enemy's front line, as long as he delayed a little time, what awaited Allen would be endless demon pursuit.

How could Allen let the Assassin Imp get his wish?

After snapping the opponent's arms, he had already taken advantage of the situation to put the unarmed demon into his arms.

Hiss ~ ~

Crack ~ ~

Before the Assassin Imp died, a sharp tooth bit hard on Allen's shoulder blade, bringing up a piece of flesh.

It was just that his own situation was even worse.

Allen twisted his arms and directly squeezed the opponent's chest cavity inward.

He didn't know exactly how many ribs were broken, but the Assassin Imp no longer had a human shape, and then Allen threw it on the ground casually.

Picking up the pair of daggers that were still tightly held by the dead arm on the ground, a simple slash looked down at the opponent's head, completely liberating the other party.

Allen no longer hesitated, sheathed the Bonesplitter, and quickly moved his strong legs, heading towards the southwest.

From the beginning, when he noticed the assassination of the Assassin Imp, Allen knew that he had to make a quick decision and could not delay any longer.

That's why he deliberately revealed flaws, allowing the Assassin Imp to get close to his body.

Even in order not to give the Assassin Imp a chance to Shadow Step, Allen even risked exposing the vital point of his heart, just to make the other party can't help but be tempted to fight with him.

The danger in it, if he was a little careless, Allen would die on the spot, and at the very least, he would be seriously injured.

But in the end, it seemed that Allen's eyesight, strength, and will were stronger, and at the cost of almost being assassinated in the heart, he killed a powerful and cunning Assassin Imp within two minutes.

Of course, at any other time, Allen would never make this choice.

His own life was always more precious than others, and it was the most foolish thing to risk his life.

Not long after Allen left, several demon figures came one after another, and then checked the battle scene while being wary of each other.

After a while, they chased after the direction Allen left and ran wildly.

Bang!!

Clang!!

"Get out of here!!"

Allen's steps were steady and powerful. The Bonecleaver chopped out fiercely, sending a figure flying. Not having time to follow up with another strike, Allen ran forward without looking back.

The closer Allen got to the Spring Country's front lines, the more demons he encountered. Among the pursuers behind him were those with faster legs and speed than Allen, always creating many troubles for him, making his escape extremely difficult.

The only good thing was that Allen's speed was not bad, belonging to the top tier among endurance-type combat professions; and his stamina and resilience were the most powerful even among many high-level peak combat professions. Among those who surpassed him in speed, none could maintain continuous, high-speed running like Allen.

After such a pursuit, even if someone could catch up to Allen, they were mostly panting and exhausted. By the time they tried to intercept Allen, they would often be beaten back by Allen's fierce and heavy strikes.

More often, the interceptors were those demons who happened to be on Allen's escape route. Facing the warnings issued by the demons from time to time, taking advantage of their rested state, it took Allen a lot of energy and effort to break through the opponent's interception.

Anyway, Allen only sought to open a path and did not intend to fight to the death, which made it easier for him to break through. A high-level combat professional who wholeheartedly wants to escape can hardly be completely stopped by anyone unless they encounter legendary or higher absolute strength suppression. As long as Allen wasn't a fool and wasn't surrounded by a group of demons, he wouldn't be in too much danger.

Just like the information Ahmad gave, the demon army was indeed only gathered at certain crucial geographical locations and could not completely surround the Spring Country's positions, so Allen at least didn't have to worry about being caught in a large-scale pursuit.

Dodging left and right within the demon's defenses, although Allen's journey was not smooth, he was not far from the human defense line. Allen could even see scattered human bones, which were likely the corpses of human soldiers sent to the demon defense line for reconnaissance, just like the Hurtan buffer zone.

Puff!!

Allen stepped on what appeared to be solid ground, but the sudden feeling of losing support immediately alerted him. He twisted his waist, lunged forward in mid-air, and then rolled on the ground to regain his footing. Just as he was about to unleash his movement technique and search for the source of the attack, countless vines sprouted from the surrounding bushes and the ground, like writhing living snakes, directly entangling Allen's legs, slowing his movements.

At the same time, an Ice Shock spell landed on Allen's location before he could find the caster. The ground froze at a visible speed, along with Allen's vine-entangled legs, encasing them in ice.

Allen struggled to twist his legs. The ice cracked continuously but quickly solidified and recovered, making it difficult for Allen to break free from the ground for a moment.

Dozens of meters to Allen's left front, a figure almost merged with the environment was revealed as the magical glow in his hand appeared. The middle-aged male face, which was not too different from ordinary human faces except for two slender goat horns on his forehead, was now holding a silver-white mithril staff inlaid with many gems and crystals, staring solemnly at Allen, chanting spells in his mouth.

A yellowish-brown aura of Earth Spike quickly took shape and, following the staff's tap on the ground, the spell's vibrations quickly transmitted to Allen's location. The ground shook, and a sharp stone cone suddenly protruded from the ground beneath Allen's legs, directly stabbing towards Allen's lower body.

Allen's expression was grave, with a hint of shock, anger, and panic in his eyes. Having suffered too much at the hands of spellcasters, he naturally knew the power of spellcasters.

Not daring to hold back at this moment, Allen directly unleashed the Berserk skill. At the same time, the Bonecleaver smashed heavily onto the frozen ground. Taking advantage of the cracks in the ice that had not yet closed, Allen, empowered by the Berserk skill, snapped twice and finally broke free from the double confinement of vines and ice, narrowly avoiding the swiftly protruding stone cone.

嚓 嚓 ~ ~

The scales on the outside of Allen's left leg emitted a harsh friction sound against the stone cone. Allen, with a few beads of cold sweat on his face, pulled the Bonecleaver out of the ground and slashed out two Furious Strikes, attempting to interrupt the next spellcasting action of the seemingly human demon in front of him.

After the Furious Strikes, two rapidly shot, heavy-force flying axes were launched. After doing all this, Allen restarted his steps, and the Ripple Step dragged out a phantom, bringing Allen closer to his opponent at a rapid speed.

Unfortunately, the flying axes and Furious Strikes were blocked by an invisible magical shield a few feet away from the demon spellcaster, achieving no effect.

Boom ~ ~ ~

Allen's eyes lit up. A raging flame suddenly blocked his way forward. The demon had completed his spell. After casting Fire Wall, he continued with his next spell.

The high temperature of the Fire Wall made Allen's exposed skin burn painfully, but it did not delay Allen's progress. Allen, gritting his teeth, suddenly lowered his head and crashed directly into the wall of flames. A scorching smell of roasted flesh and hair slowly dissipated. The two-meter-wide fire wall only took two breaths of time under Allen's high-speed movement. By the time Allen passed through the fire wall, his distance from the demon in front of him was no more than ten meters.

Another Furious Strike was slashed out. Allen's body, covered in faint blisters from the flames and still with some sparks, looked very embarrassed. Of course, Allen was indeed in great pain. In addition to the burns on his body, his internal organs were also scorched by the hot air and the raging fire elements. The power of magic was not so easy to resist, even though Allen had already enveloped his whole body in Fury and had a little magic resistance from the Python Scale Armor.

However, these did not bring much impact to Allen's battle. After slashing out another Furious Strike, Allen's steps were firm and swift, killing towards the enemy who was close at hand.

Swish ~ ~

Allen's feet suddenly slipped, as if the ground was no longer supporting him. An unknown layer of faint grease had appeared on the uneven ground, causing Allen's forward rush to become unsteady. Before Allen could regain his balance, a crystal on the demon's staff burst open, and then a fireball quickly formed, smashing towards Allen like a meteor.

"Open!!"

Allen, who had not yet regained his balance, slashed straight with the Bonecleaver, with only one thought in his mind: that nothing could stop his progress.

Boom!!!!

The tip of the Bonecleaver collided with the fireball, and a violent explosion sounded, accompanied by fierce recoil and shock, forcing Allen to retreat a few steps. Then, the grease on the ground was suddenly ignited, turning directly into a sea of fire, burning fiercely along with Allen's leather boots, which were stained with some oil.

"Hmph!!"

Ignoring how the boiling sea of fire in front of him was raging, Allen's mind was clear, and he actually rushed into the sea of fire again, not even frowning, and continued his pouncing action while stepping on the flames.

In the distance, the Tiefling mage finally had a few changes in expression. According to his plan, Allen should at least avoid these places before the Fire Wall and this sea of fire, detouring before pouncing to kill. Then, in the time he detoured, it would have been enough for him to cast several spells, playing with his opponent in his hands and slowly killing him.

It's just that his opponent obviously didn't follow his script, treating his own body so coldly and ruthlessly, as if this body didn't belong to him.

When an Lightning Arrow shot from the Tiefling mage's staff like a light, Allen was only less than 4 meters away from him.

"Die!!!"

Allen roared, his whole body turned into a hurricane, and the powerful Storm Sword wrapped his body, covering the demon in front of him.

Buzz ~ ~

Lightning raged on Allen's body. The negative attributes of the Lightning Arrow caused Allen's body to tremble, but under the huge inertial force of the Storm Sword, this negative effect was not enough to slow down Allen's attack. This was also Allen's original intention when using the Storm Sword.

Although Allen paid a considerable price, the parts hit by the Lightning Arrow were already scorched black, and there was a burst of white smoke rising, Allen's Bonecleaver finally fell in front of the Tiefling mage, who was close at hand.

Puff!!

In the end, the Bonecleaver still slashed into emptiness. The Tiefling mage waved his staff, and a Dimension Door teleported him directly to more than 50 meters away, just like the initial distance between Allen and his opponent.

Whoosh ~ ~ ~ Whoosh ~ ~ ~

Two flying axes flew out of Allen's waving left hand, directly thrown towards the distant enemy. Although they might not be very accurate, Allen could only roughly follow the opponent's body and throw them. As for what effect they would have in the end, it was beyond his control.

The enemy pulled away again, resetting Allen's previous efforts to zero, but it did not discourage Allen. If powerful and mysterious spellcasters could be easily killed, then they would have no need to exist and continue.

But at least, Allen's attack consumed a lot of the opponent's spell slots, which was not without gain.

Behind him, there was a faint whistling sound, which was the pursuers who had been thrown far away by Allen. This was also the reason why Allen was willing to cross the sea of fire and be injured by spells when facing the Tiefling mage, in order to end the battle as soon as possible.

As the flying axes left his hand, Allen also had two scrolls and potions in his hand. After drinking the potion and casting a Feather Fall and a Resist Fire spell on himself, Allen once again started his steps and pounced towards the demon mage who was still casting spells in front of him.

As expected, the flying axes missed. The demon mage only moved a few steps and easily avoided the attack of the flying axes. However, immediately afterwards, two Furious Strikes that crossed each other in a cross shape exploded in front of the demon mage, stirring up gusts of wind.

The demon mage was forced to retreat two steps. The spell in his hand covered Allen's head, and at the same time, a sapphire on the top of the staff flickered and then quickly dimmed. Another Lightning Arrow shot out directly, and the Ice Shock that the demon mage had used before both landed on Allen.
