Green Monster Epic
#439 - The Back Wave
Chapter 430: The Rising Tide
Sixty strong and agile Mondo warhorses galloped across the desolate Gobi Desert. The horseshoes, fitted with iron nails, collided with the stones on the ground, creating a faint, clanging sound amidst the dull, continuous thundering.
Cavalry Captain Furenla was a new generation Earth Spirit warrior from the Green Field Tribe. Although the tribe's traditions no longer included knightly heritage, the heritage brought by Eric, the current leader of the faithless and former devout follower of the Spring Goddess, contained outstanding human knightly traditions.
Because of spreading his beliefs within the Green Field Tribe, Eric and his team's heritage crystals were gradually being opened to the tribe members. This was the price they had to pay for settling in the Green Field Tribe as human outsiders.
Therefore, although the Green Field Tribe itself did not have a knightly tradition, the number of knightly professions within the tribe was already considerable. Among the 59 cavalry warriors led by Furenla, nearly 40, like Furenla, were walking the path of the knight.
As for the remaining dozen or so non-knight warriors, although their coordination with the warhorses might not achieve an effect of 1+1 \u003e 2, they would not significantly diminish the effectiveness of the cavalry's charge.
Following closely behind the cavalry were the Earth Spirit and Bear Spirit warriors, with their nimble strides and heads down, charging forward. After the heavily armored warhorse cavalry at the front had swept away the Drow formations like a whirlwind, it was time for a group of goblin warriors wielding sharp, heavy weapons to unleash their powerful destructive force.
Puff! Puff!
"Hmph, ha, hehe!!"
"Ah!!"
After various muffled gasps and the clashing of weapons, one fresh life after another collapsed to the ground.
No one cared about the possibly still wriggling opponents or companions under their feet, because on the battlefield, the price for even a moment's distraction could very well be one's own life.
Doo-doo ~ Doo!
The sharp whistle, sometimes rapid and sometimes drawn out, constantly floated from mid-air. Under the guidance of the whistle, the Green Field Tribe's vanguard cavalry continuously maneuvered and turned within the long battle lines, repeatedly breaking through the weak points of the Drow lines, and even dodging the enemy elites blocking their path, leading their fellow tribesmen behind them to inflict maximum casualties on the enemy.
Arbard, as the commander leading nearly a thousand of his tribesmen, overlooked the entire battlefield from above using the Eye of the Void. Then, the Hand of the Mage manipulated a whistle with sound amplification magic, transmitting the commands he usually used to train his companions.
Although Arbard himself was still within the rear ranks of the advancing infantry, closely guarded by several shield warriors, and had not yet directly encountered a single enemy, the role he played was irreplaceable.
With the help of such a commander, guiding the heavy cavalry clearing the path ahead, one could imagine how brilliant the Green Field Tribe's detachment's achievements were.
"Puff!!"
However, when a shadow abruptly pierced through the shield warriors' tight defense, appearing directly behind Arbard, and two sharp, azure-glowing daggers were blocked by a transparent magic shield, Arbard's commands finally paused briefly.
"Ha!"
Without anyone's prompting, a shield warrior had already intervened with a shield, directly inserting himself between the assassin and Arbard's frail body. A heavy shield, much larger than the gnome Arbard, completely enveloped Arbard, just in time to block another deadly move from the assassin.
"Puff!"
"Squeak ~ ~"
"Hmph!"
The piercing, teeth-grinding friction and the muffled sound of weapons piercing flesh failed to stir the slightest emotional fluctuation in the two opposing opponents.
Slowly retracting his dagger, the Drow assassin, seeing that his assassination had failed, did not linger at all. Casually flicking off the drops of blood on his scimitar, he leaped into the shadows, escaping the interception of the other shield warriors so freely.
Clang!
Several shields crashed against each other, sparking a series of sparks, before being retrieved by several strong goblin warriors, their eyes revealing intense unease and vigilance.
The whistle from the sky was so conspicuous and piercing that the Drow elves were not fools. They naturally knew that behind the whistle, there must be a commander, so the Drow assassin concealed himself to assassinate the commanding officer.
Although they ultimately failed to assassinate Arbard, the brief assassination forced Arbard to withdraw and rearrange his protective spells. By the time he recast the Eye of the Void spell to survey the battlefield, the heavy cavalry led by Furenla had already become entangled with a group of Drow spearmen.
Without the leading cavalry's momentum, the Green Field Tribe infantry's breakthrough behind them naturally became sluggish.
The previous left-right charges were indeed sharp, but the sudden predicament they encountered after falling into sluggishness was bound to cause a headache.
Countless Drow soldiers swarmed from all directions, front, back, left, and right. Although there was cover from other wilderness alliance warriors, the pressure suddenly seemed heavy for these somewhat advanced and disjointed Green Field Tribe warriors.
This was the mistake of Arbard, the commander. Even though he had thoroughly mastered all of his teacher Tom's knowledge, he inevitably brought his Green Field warriors into a difficult situation due to his youth and lack of experience in actual command.
Fortunately, the distance between the Green Field warriors and the main force was not too far. On the battlefield, the wilderness native forces were gradually gaining the advantage. After this group of goblin warriors, their faces covered in sweat and blood, their fur soaked, persevered for a long time, they finally waited for the indigenous army to come and eliminate the enemies.
Arbard breathed a sigh of relief. He had issued breakthrough orders several times before, but the valiant breakthrough attempts of his colleagues in front had been resolved by the Drow army one by one, causing his command to fail.
When the reinforcements finally arrived, helping the Green Field warriors out of the encirclement, Arbard hurriedly issued an order to break through to the flanks.
After another fierce battle, piercing through the last interception of the Drow detachment on the left flank, the front of the heavy cavalry led by Furenla finally became vast.
The goblin infantry behind them were not much slower. Only half a magic hour later, the last team of companions broke out of the encirclement and heard Arbard's command from the sky to rest and cease fighting.
Anyway, the situation ahead was good at this time. Even without the help of the Green Field Tribe's detachment, the Drow army's defeat was basically irreversible.
However, when the Green Field Tribe's team captains and leaders began to count the number of warriors under their command, the thousand warriors who had left the city had now lost more than three hundred, which really caused Arbard to feel a sense of frustration in his heart.
