#511 - Get Together
Chapter 495: Reunion
“Kou’er…”
Aileen was no longer young. Although she hadn't reached Stone's stage of tottering when walking, she was still in her twilight years, and her movements had long lost the ease of her younger days.
Seeing their sister, who had been traveling and whose life or death had been uncertain for a long time, suddenly appear in town, Aileen and Stone, along with a group of old friends, were naturally overjoyed. However, when they realized what Kou’er's still youthful appearance meant, their actions became somewhat restrained.
“Ah!!! Aileen!!!”
On the other hand, Kou’er, since entering Green Lake Town, which had undergone a transformation and become larger and more lively, had swept away her previous nervousness. Her eyes revealed a strong interest as she constantly sized up this somewhat unfamiliar town.
When the two of them strolled up the mountain to the plaza at the summit and saw Aileen, Stone, and several other former partners who had aged considerably while waiting for a long time, Kou’er couldn't restrain the joy of reunion in her heart. She rushed over directly and hugged Aileen, the shortest and closest of them all.
“Big Brother Stone, you've aged so much!!”
Under Aileen's constant whispered pleas, Kou’er reluctantly put Aileen down, then turned and landed a punch on Stone's chest, causing Stone, who was leaning on a cane, to sway involuntarily and almost fall onto the magic-absorbing stone bricks of the plaza.
Forcibly smiling and rubbing the spot where Kou’er had punched him, Stone replied sheepishly, “I'm almost 70 years old, how can I not be old!!”
However, also sensing Kou’er's unchanging boisterous personality, the restraint and unfamiliarity in Aileen, Stone, and the others' eyes gradually faded. At this moment, they were finally able to connect with Kou’er on an equal footing.
“It's you who promised to return to town to help out when you were 50 years old. Calculate it yourself now…”
Watching this generation of goblin youngsters, whom she had personally trained, happily gathered in a group, Allen, although feeling somewhat neglected, didn't care too much. Constantly scanning his surroundings, Allen noticed something was amiss, namely that many of Kou’er's peers were not present.
“Chieftain.”
No one knew about Allen and the others' return until they entered the town, when someone went to report to Terek, who was in the fields supervising the planting of the new season's crops. By the time Terek rushed over, Kou’er and her group of companions had already finished their greetings and exchanges. Everyone was happy to be reunited, and in the end, Kou’er, regardless of whether Allen agreed or not, took Aileen and the others to the largest restaurant in town for a good meal.
Stone Fort was quiet again. Allen's partner, Lena, with his tacit approval, moved to the residential area at the foot of the mountain to live with her family who had migrated from Fort Muir.
This could be considered a slight compensation that Allen could make for the guilt he felt towards Lena. Rather than the two of them continuing to live together awkwardly, it was better to give Lena more freedom and let her live more comfortably. Anyway, over the years, Allen had often shared a room with Lena, but ultimately failed to produce an offspring, which had gradually extinguished his hopes in that regard.
“You’ve done well!!”
Although he no longer managed the specific affairs of the tribe, this didn't mean that Allen's control over the tribe was diminished. Although he couldn't see many subtle things, he had obtained first-hand detailed reports about the changes in the goblin high-level leaders such as Linnaeus and Duncan shortly after returning to the tribe.
After witnessing Terek's methods and abilities, Allen could finally confirm that his choice of the new Green Lake Town chief was not wrong. Allen was even considering whether he should switch the positions between Facardo and Terek, which would be more appropriate.
Comparing the current size of Green Lake Town and Fort Muir, Fort Muir was naturally more important to the Greenfield Tribe. Therefore, the power in the hands of the guardian of Fort Muir was greater, and to outsiders, he had a more important position.
However, in Allen's heart, the status of Green Lake Town was far higher than that of Fort Muir, and for the future layout of the Greenfield Tribe, Allen would also focus more on the development of the Green Lake Town area.
“However, you are still too soft in your handling of those few guys!!”
Although he couldn't bear the current situation of the goblin students he had trained, Allen hated even more the depravity and greed of this group of guys. Fortunately, Terek had launched the attack when he was not in town. If he had handled this group of bastards, he would have had to chop off a few more heads to deter the tribesmen.
Terek lowered his head slightly, not refuting Allen's words, but his eyes also showed his own persistence. In his opinion, his handling method was more humane and more conducive to the unity of the tribe.
“Forget it, anyway, you are in charge of the affairs in the town now, and I won't interfere too much. You may have your own considerations.”
Allen's eyes were so sharp that he saw through Terek's heart at a glance. Not only was he not angry, but he admired him even more. As the chief of a town, he should have his own opinions, rather than succumbing to the stronger person.
“By the way, from now on, Kou’er will be a tribal elder and will mostly guard Green Lake Town. If you need her help with anything, just tell her.”
“Although she is an elder, she will not be in charge of any specific matters, so you don't have to worry that she will hinder your management. Also, don't go to her for help with everything. She needs enough time to hone her strength.”
“If Elder Kou’er needs anything in her training, you must quickly…”
“Understood!”
Kou’er's return was indeed a great thing for Allen and the Greenfield Tribe, and it gave Allen more confidence in the tribe's two-point layout.
“Chieftain, I have an idea…”
Just as Allen had finished giving instructions and was about to dismiss Terek, Terek suddenly raised his head and looked directly into Allen's eyes.
“…Speak.”
“I hope that the chieftain, Elder Kou’er, and Elder Philémon can spare some time each year to give guidance to more of the tribe’s high-level peak warriors.”
“I don’t have that kind of free time!!”
Allen refused flatly.
“Chieftain!!”
Terek was also very firm.
“In recent years, many warriors in the tribe have gone out to adventure and seek the path to becoming a Legend, but not many have returned safely. I’ve done some statistics, and about half of the injured and disabled tribesmen were injured and crippled by Legendary-level powerhouses…”
“Although I also understand that there is an essential difference between Legendary powerhouses and ordinary warriors, high-level peak warriors may not necessarily have the chance to retreat unscathed.”
“Elder Philémon has personally conducted repeated drills for the core members of their Tan Ding Society, telling them how to deal with attacks from Legendary powerhouses, how to escape, and so on…”
“Therefore, I believe that you and Elder Kou’er also need to…”
It could be seen that Terek had been planning this matter for some time, otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to say a series of reasons after Allen refused.
“Even if the goblins in the tribe who have the opportunity to embark on the path to becoming a Legend ultimately fail, I hope they can return to serve the tribe. One more brave warrior means one more strength for the tribe…”
“Of course, if, after being taught and trained by you, Chieftain, some truly talented people open their minds and find their own path, wouldn't that be even better?”
Allen and Terek looked at each other, feeling his persistence, and finally compromised.
“I will ask Elder Kou’er and Elder Philémon about their attitudes, but I really can’t spare too much time. At most, I will take some time to beat up the top ten winners of the tribe’s bi-annual competition…”
“Thank you, Chieftain!!”
“Get out!!!”
“Okay!!”
