Green Monster Epic

#655 - Little joke

Rabana was completely smashed into the ground and didn't resurface for a long time. The only evidence of his existence was his giant shield, slanted into the earth.

His fraternal twin brother, Rabali, fared slightly better, barely managing to stand while leaning on his shield, coughing up mouthfuls of blood as if it were free. Even with healing potions, he could barely alleviate his severe internal injuries.

Haye's beloved strongbow was discarded carelessly on the ground. After the masked figure casually severed the bowstring, the bow became useless. Now, Haye could only wield a self-defense dagger, limping through the battlefield, looking for an opportunity.

Only Svara and Wesley were left, desperately fighting against the legendary powerhouse. Wesley's face was contorted, his pupils exploding with blood vessels, dyeing his entire eye socket green. It was clear that he was suffering from a severe backlash from overusing his mental power, and it was erupting within his body.

"Go!!!"

Wesley roared, while simultaneously uttering a magical syllable from his abdomen. A necklace with a brilliant star diamond embedded in its center erupted with intense magical fluctuations, surging towards Svara under Wesley's mental guidance.

At the same time, Wesley gripped his staff tightly with both hands and slammed it hard into the ground. The egg-sized gem embedded at the top of the staff shattered instantly from the immense force, and a surging wave of fire exploded on the spot, sweeping out in all directions.

Before the wave of fire reached him, Svara was enveloped by the magic from Wesley's necklace, disappearing in an instant and reappearing hundreds of meters away.

The masked figure's vision was filled with red, but his eyes showed no panic. A red light flashed on his battle-axe, and a surge of violent rage erupted, colliding head-on with the oncoming wave of scorching fire. The legendary powerhouse's formidable physique, seemingly like a drifting leaf, swayed in the fire, but in reality, he was as steady as a rock, advancing step by step.

Wesley was solemn and focused, with a hint of reluctance in his eyes. His depleted magical power was surging towards the pituitary gland in the back of his head, the source and gathering place of his mental power. He had decided to sacrifice himself to help Svara, who had been teleported hundreds of meters away, find a glimmer of hope.

Magic began to vibrate, and Wesley's small body seemed to swell up, on the verge of turning into a human bomb. Suddenly, a sharp pain came from the back of his head, and Wesley's vision went black as his eyes closed.

The invisible energy in the surrounding space, which had lost its magical connection, slowly returned to calm. His already depleted mental power automatically retreated to where it should be, without any guidance.

"Heh, luckily I arrived in time, or your little life would have been gone!"

The masked figure's voice suddenly became clear and melodious, and the sharp killing intent in her eyes transformed into pity and annoyance. It was Cour, who had been overlooking these little guys from the sky.

However, her gaze only lingered on the short goblin Wesley for a few seconds. After sensing Svara's trail hundreds of meters away in her mental field, Cour's eyes became playful again: "Since it's already like this, you won't have an easy time either!"

Muttering to herself, Cour's figure instantly disappeared from the ravaged battlefield, not worrying about the four unlucky injured encountering any accidents.

"Still want to run???"

Cour floated in mid-air, her voice booming, blocking Svara's path leisurely.

"So, you abandoned your companions??"

"Ah!!!"

Svara's face was now twisted and terrifying, and the gaze from his pupils was like that of a wolf. The earth goblin, already in pain and anger over the unknown fate of his companions, struck his two curved blades together, and a spark flashed from the blades.

With the enhancement of the Ripple Step, Svara's figure split into three, attacking the floating Cour, who was more than two meters tall, from three directions.

Cour didn't hold back. Although the battle-axe in her hand was just a treasured weapon of hers and not actually handy, the formidable power it wielded was not something that ordinary high-level warriors could withstand.

A dense series of weapon clashes rang out. Svara, relying on his advantage in agility, constantly moved around Cour, trying to enter the range of her polearm, so that he could create a greater threat and have a better chance of seriously injuring the legendary figure in front of him. Only when there was no way to avoid it would he use his rapidly swinging dual blades to weaken the unparalleled power of the opponent's battle-axe, allowing himself to withstand the opponent's heavy blows.

Each head-on confrontation would often cause Svara's internal organs to convulse, followed by a constant flow of bruised blood pouring out of his mouth.

Even so, Svara did not give up hope of fighting to the death with his opponent, squeezing every bit of potential from his body and dragging his increasingly heavy legs.

"Open for me!!!"

"Pfft!!!"

Once again forced into a desperate situation, his dual blades collided head-on with the heavy battle-axe in front of him, and clusters of fiery sparks appeared before him. His arms were aching from the rapid swings. But after dozens of collisions, the last time the dual blades crossed, his shoulders thrust forward, and he finally managed to block the battle-axe, which was less than ten centimeters from his head.

The price was that a cloud of blood mist enveloped a meter around the earth goblin, and a foul odor spread out.

The battle-axe was casually retracted. The slash that the earth goblin needed to resist with all his might was just an ordinary blow from Cour in her serious state. The battle-axe, which had only been half-retracted, was swung out again in a horizontal sweep as Cour's wrist flicked.

Clang!! Clang!!

Svara, still catching his breath, watched as the heavy axe approached again. He wanted to dodge, but his heavy legs could no longer move as nimbly as before. In the end, his arms shook, and he crossed his dual blades in front of him.

Pfft!!

Svara flew backward, scraping a trail of dust on the ground. Before the dust had settled, the earth goblin, struggling to stabilize himself with his dual blades stuck in the ground, felt a killing intent approaching.

He couldn't win in a fight, and he couldn't escape. Despair gradually grew in his heart. While Svara spat out dark green blood, confused thoughts began to appear in his mind.

There were images of his parents raising him by their side when he was young, bringing him happiness and peace; there were the joys, sorrows, failures, and growth he experienced with his companions when he traveled abroad as a young man; and there was the excitement and hope for life when he found his own legendary path...

Now, all of this was about to vanish. The cold light of the battle-axe wielded by the bronze masked figure in front of him was rapidly approaching, and it seemed that Svara's life would be taken away by this cold light in the next moment.

The experiences of the past forty years flashed through his mind, and Svara felt attachment, loss, fear, guilt, and other emotions, as if he had resigned himself to fate.

Cour, who had deliberately slowed down her attack, saw through the various emotions in the eyes of the earth goblin in front of her with her sharp eyes, and a hint of disappointment arose in her heart.

Just as Cour was about to stop and reveal her true identity, the figure of the earth goblin in front of her suddenly swayed, and then Cour completely lost sight of him.

Instinct suddenly warned her that her life was threatened, and a cold light flashed in Cour's eyes, and disappointment was immediately replaced by relief. Although Cour had not yet found Svara's figure, the battle-axe that had been chopped forward was transformed into a sweep under the drive of her arms, constantly rotating in front of Cour, forming a shield wall.

Behind!!

Cour twisted her body, and the shield wall formed by the battle-axe skillfully moved in one direction, blocking the blind spot behind her.

Clang!!

A faint collision sounded, and the rotating motion of the battle-axe was slightly stagnant, but it quickly returned to normal under the continued force of Cour's wrist. Cour turned her head and searched in the direction of the collision, but her eyes only saw a fleeting shadow pass by, and then there was nothing again.

Clang clang...

A breeze surrounded Cour, and more and more dense sounds of breaking through the air struck the surface of the constantly rotating and dancing battle-axe, creating clusters of sparks.

Cour narrowed her eyes. Until now, she had not been able to completely lock onto the figure of the earth goblin, who had turned into a ghost. At least, the strength that Svara was showing at this moment had some semblance of a legend. The battle-axe in her hand spun out a flower, and a red light suddenly flashed in the stamen, seizing the brief opportunity when the surrounding phantoms stagnated, and a sweep of furious energy slashed past.

Svara was now highly focused. When he finally let go of all his emotions, ignored the surrounding things and the feedback from his body's fatigue, he felt as if he had entered another realm.

The seemingly depleted fighting energy within my body is actually still sufficient to support my movements. The air, which once hindered my speed, merges with my fighting energy and spirit, gradually permeating the surrounding space. I move through the invisible gaps in space like a fish in water, my speed increasing dramatically.

Even the speed of my arm swings has increased significantly. Before, I could only unleash a dozen strikes per second at most, but now, even in unfavorable situations, I feel like I can easily double that.

As the 'Wrathful Strike' swept towards him, Swala kicked off with both legs and leaped into the air. Just as he was preparing to launch another attack, darkness descended before his eyes. Cole had seized the opportunity, pouncing forward and bringing her battle-axe crashing down.

Clang! Clang! Clang…

Swala parried and retreated, attempting to create distance, but Cole, having finally seized the opportunity, was not about to let him escape so easily.

Boom!

A heavy impact echoed as a cloud of dust billowed from the ground. Swala was ultimately slammed into the ground by a backhanded strike from the battle-axe.

Dazed and resigned to his fate, Swala waited in vain for the final moment to arrive. Refusing to simply await his death, he struggled to pull out his dual blades and plunged them into the bottom of the pit, laboriously climbing out of the soil.

"I told you, you little guys need to be pushed hard to bring out your potential!!!"

Raising his head, Swala's eyes met Cole, who had just removed her mask, revealing her delicate features, and was looking at his disheveled state with a smile.

"Wh… Elder…"

Having already prepared himself to face death, Swala suddenly realized that there was still hope of survival. This earth goblin, returning from the depths of despair, unashamedly felt a few glistening tears welling up in his eyes, his voice trembling slightly.

"Happy to see me?? Surprised???"

Cole, completely oblivious to the psychological impact her previous actions had on the earth goblin before her, continued to tease him.

"Hap… py…"

Swala forced a smile that looked more like a grimace, answering through gritted teeth.

"Good! Here, take this and tend to your wounds properly. It's embarrassing that you've been out for so long and are still so useless!!"

Cole, having finished teasing Swala, tossed a bottle of emerald green potion from her dimensional pouch. Swala caught it in one hand. It was a bottle of expensive, high-grade healing potion, now being used by Cole to clean up the mess. In truth, she did feel somewhat guilty.

Of course, Cole didn't think her actions were too excessive, because she was simply following suit. Back then, Allen had forced a group of young goblins to use knives to carve pieces of flesh from their fellow goblins, one slice at a time, and had even thrown the young goblin Linnaeus directly into a pack of wolves. His methods were far more ruthless than Cole's were now.

Cole remembered a very experienced saying that Allen had told her: 'Pressure creates motivation.' Earth goblins and bear goblins are warriors born for battle, and breakthroughs are most likely to occur in actual combat, especially when facing life and death.

And now!!!

Swala, who had been wandering outside for more than four years without finding the key to crossing that threshold, had finally made progress after being forced by her.

"Huh?? There are even some clueless things that want to take advantage of the situation??"

Cole, who had intended to say a few more words to Swala, simultaneously detected several unfamiliar auras with the mental threads she had been spreading around Rabal and the others. They were sneaking towards the severely injured goblins who were trying to regroup.

"If you can still walk, come back with me!!"

Cole's expression darkened, and after muttering a sentence, she flew into the air and quickly sped off in the original direction.

Rabal's mood was very low. The pain in his body was insignificant compared to his current state of mind. Even though the muscles and internal organs in his body were riddled with holes, even the slightest movement caused excruciating pain.

It seemed that his mission had failed. Rabal didn't know how to return to the tribe and explain to the chieftain and the city lord. It was only with great difficulty that he pulled himself together and struggled to his feet, heading towards Wesley, who was unconscious in the distance.

Hai Ye was equally heavy-hearted. Her left leg hung limply and unnaturally, hindering her agile movements. Hopping and jumping, she reached a deep pit and, with a pained expression, bent down to dig into the ground. She didn't know if her companion Rabana inside was dead or alive.

Just as the two were helping their companions, they didn't realize that deep in the waist-high grass of the wilderness, several figures were slowly approaching them.

Gnoll Holz carefully groped forward, trying not to touch the surrounding weeds and make any noise. Within a few dozen meters around him, the other members of the squad were doing the same, slowly crawling forward.

Previously, there had been a great commotion in this wilderness, with earthquakes and flying stones. It was obvious that powerful individuals had been fighting and killing here.

The Lightning Squad consisted of six members, only three of whom were mid-level combat professionals, but fortunately, there was a low-level kobold warlock in the team. So, with the help of the 'Eye of Magic' he summoned, they were able to figure out the environment of this wilderness without alarming any possible survivors.

Three severely injured goblins, one of whom was unconscious, and the other two appeared to be very seriously injured (Rabana was buried deep in the soil, so he was not discovered). This was a tempting target for any adventure team.

A horse doesn't get fat without night grass, and the indigenous warriors of the wilderness never pursue stability. Although the members of the Lightning Squad knew that their strength was insufficient, they couldn't let go of such a great opportunity that they had stumbled upon today.

Especially the unconscious short goblin, who was tightly clutching a silver-white staff in his hand. He was obviously a spellcasting profession, which meant that the materials and spellcasting tools carried by this short goblin alone were a tempting fortune.

After a simple discussion, the six members of the squad unanimously agreed to take the risk. Although the risks were not small, for these guys at the bottom of the adventure world, if they succeeded in this venture, they could retire early.

"Who! Come out for me!!!"

Although Hai Ye was severely injured and had lost her handy strong bow, her hearing was still sharp. Although the gnoll Holz and his group had been very careful, they still couldn't hide it from the ears of a high-level archer.

"Kill!!"

Since their whereabouts had been exposed, Holz and his group naturally did not delay any further. The first to strike was a fireball the size of a basketball, which floated from the top of the kobold warlock's single-handed magic staff and slowly fell towards the unconscious Wesley.

Following closely behind were four whistling javelins, heading in two directions, directly towards Hai Ye and Rabal.

"Hiss!!"

Hai Ye drew out her self-defense dagger, but even the slightest movement caused a sharp pain to strike, making her vision blur and almost causing her to faint.

Clang! Clang!!

Boom!!

Barely managing to prop up his shield and block the two javelins that were shot at him, Rabal's body swayed constantly, almost falling down. But just as he was about to fall backward, Rabal suddenly gained a surge of strength, slamming the heavy shield forward, protecting the short goblin mage Wesley at his feet behind him.

Flames bloomed on the shield, and the omnipresent magic instantly transformed the earth within a radius of two meters into a sea of fire.

"Hahaha, we're rich!!"

The situation was more optimistic than everyone had expected. With just a small probe, they had already clearly figured out the current strength of these three, no, four, powerful goblins.

The six adventurers of different races revealed greedy gazes in their eyes, laughing wildly, and the weapons in their hands also revealed a ferocious side.

Hai Ye looked at Rabana beside her, who she had only managed to pull half of his body out of the ground, and turned around with a determined posture, dragging her broken left leg, and launched a final counterattack.

"Looking for death!!!!"

A black meteor streaked across the sky, and just as a shout filled with anger rang out, a violent tremor was transmitted across the ground.

Boom!!!!!!

The surrounding land and weeds of the wilderness trembled. When everything settled, the figures of the six adventurers had disappeared along with the dozen or so meters of land on the ground, leaving only a deep pit abruptly appearing on this land covered with weeds.
