Green Monster Epic

#885 - return

Plop!!

From the giant bear, reverting back to his dwarf form, a head, accompanied by a muffled sound of flesh being torn, crashed to the ground.

An elven assassin emerged from an unexpected location, snatched the still-falling dwarf head, and then, with a shadow step, instantly flashed out of the battle, narrowly avoiding the desperate, grief-stricken attack of the dwarf scout captain.

Whoosh!

A dark arrow shot from the night, heading straight for the dwarf scout captain's face.

Elven Captain Vinnie, while dodging the axes and magic hurled by the dwarves, as well as the dwarf assassins pursuing her, seized the opportunity to turn and fire an arrow, aiming at the dwarf scout captain who had exposed an opening due to his rage.

As the arrow was about to hit, the dwarf scout captain suddenly looked up, his eyes, glowing with red light, fiercely swept across Vinnie maneuvering in the distant treetops, and his empty daggers transformed into afterimages.

With two clear and melodious metallic clangs, the arrow was deflected to the side.

The dwarf scout captain moved, quickly heading towards the direction from which the arrow had come, but unexpectedly felt a sharp pain in his abdomen.

Looking down, he realized that the arrow he had deflected earlier had now pierced his stomach.

Vinnie successfully controlled and guided the arrow with her mental power.

With a flick of her left hand, she used her longbow to block the dagger thrust by the assassin behind her, her hands flying and dancing between the blades.

Sparks occasionally flickered in the darkness, the result of metal weapons colliding and grinding against each other.

The fighting was fierce, but in reality, apart from the clashing of metal, few warriors made any noise.

Each of these battle-hardened soldiers was silent and ferocious.

The number of dwarf warriors dwindled.

The elven squad was generally stronger.

Although the dwarves had initially held a numerical advantage, they lost the initiative due to the elves' ambush, which disrupted their formation from the start, resulting in heavy losses.

As time passed, the dwarves' defeat became inevitable.

The dwarf captain, wounded and enduring the pain, sensed the danger and suddenly roared loudly.

The remaining dwarf scouts immediately scattered like birds and beasts, breaking out in all directions.

The elven soldiers quickly gave chase, leaving behind another three or four dwarf warriors, including the dwarf scout captain who, knowing he was too slow to escape, had taken the initiative to stay behind and cover their retreat.

In the end, only two or three dwarf warriors managed to escape.

"Cheep cheep ~"

Vinnie stood on a tree trunk, perfectly imitating the pleasant chirping of a bird.

Upon hearing this sound, the elven warriors who were giving chase abruptly stopped and regrouped on the battlefield.

"Sweep the battlefield, treat the wounded, and retreat in three minutes!"

In the distant foothills, there was a faint commotion caused by startled nocturnal animals, indicating that personnel from both sides were approaching in the vicinity.

To avoid unknown risks, Vinnie decided to quit while she was ahead, refusing to put her team at unnecessary risk.

After a great battle, the elven team also suffered casualties.

Of the three newly added recruits, two had died in battle.

Although the veteran members were still alive, several had been injured, greatly reducing their strength.

After a quick sweep of the battlefield, the elves added several not-so-small bags to their bodies, and then, led by Vinnie, quickly disappeared into the jungle.

Half a magic hour later, another team of dwarf soldiers arrived at the battlefield.

Seeing the mess and the corpses of their companions, although their expressions remained cold, the sorrowful emotions revealed in their eyes and bodies were not difficult to detect.

"Collect the bodies of our comrades and take them home!"

The newly arrived dwarf captain composed himself and vigilantly surveyed the surrounding environment.

The remnants of the enemy's departure were left on the ground, but he didn't have much intention of pursuing them at this time.

The other dwarf soldiers, with gloomy faces, silently carried the broken bodies of their companions, not afraid of the blood and filth flowing from the corpses, their steps heavy as they returned the way they came.

A dozen miles from the border, a castle stood on the highest peak of the hills.

From afar, the guards saw the dwarf team returning with corpses.

Such scenes occurred every day, so they did not elicit much emotional change from the guards.

It wasn't until the bodies of the companions were sent to the cemetery, where specialists began to identify them, that someone finally noticed that the identity of the headless dwarf in this team of corpses was somewhat different.

"My dear nephew!!

I told you, the enemies on the battlefield won't care how noble your identity is, but you wouldn't listen!"

"How am I supposed to explain this to my brother!!"

A middle-aged dwarf with a black eye patch over his left eye, only his right eye visible, wearing heavy armor like an iron bucket, arrived late.

He immediately recognized the identity of the naked dwarf corpse, missing its head and stripped of its equipment, as the second son of General Grey's own brother, from the Black Rock Dwarves, one of the dwarf kingdom's most important branches.

He had originally come to the border to train, preparing to break through the bottleneck of becoming a high-level Claw Druid, but unexpectedly, a simple frontline reconnaissance had claimed his life.

Roughly rubbing his stiff old face, Grey suddenly stood up and stomped on the ground, his body rising straight into the sky.

On the hard stone slabs, a web-like pattern of cracks remained.

The dozen solemn military officers watched their commander fly out of the castle, and they quickly followed, their figures disappearing behind the buildings in the castle amidst the noisy footsteps.

"...Today I am very angry, because my nephew, whom I watched grow up, my most beloved child, is lying coldly before me!"

"...He has been here for quite some time, more than a year, and has faced life and death with you, so I believe many of you should know him, but because of his sensitive identity, he has always used an alias!"

"...He, along with twenty-three other companions, was ambushed by the despicable and insidious elves in the border area fifteen miles from our castle."

"...Over the years, countless brave warriors of my dwarf race have followed one another, guarding this land that belongs to the origin of our dwarf race.

Those greedy robbers in the east, even after seizing countless lands from our race hundreds of years ago, are still not satisfied and still covet the land beneath our feet."

"...It is time to let those damned fellows feel our wrath!!"

Outside the castle, Grey stood in the air, passionately and emotionally venting the anger and sorrow in his heart.

The dwarf warriors already assembled on the ground were infected with high morale, occasionally issuing earth-shattering roars.

On the high walls of the castle, a few staff officers and spellcasters who maintained reason and calm lowered their voices, trying to interrupt Grey's speech and attract his attention.

"General..."

"Please hear us out..."

But these minority voices of officers clearly did not receive any response from Grey.

Even many of the other colleagues who stood with these officers on the city wall wore disapproving expressions, indicating that there were also differences within their ranks.

"I order!!"

"The entire army will wipe out all living creatures within a hundred-mile radius!!"

"Set out!"

"Kill, kill, kill!!"

Tens of thousands of dwarf troops spread out like flowing water into the distant forests and foothills.

Even Grey himself did not stay in the castle, but flew towards the distant horizon.

A dozen minutes later, he seemed to have gained something, his figure suddenly plunging to the ground, followed by bursts of muffled, loud noises.

Three days later, the mountains and forests forty miles east of Raven Ridge were a mess.

One after another, dwarf troops gradually retreated back, some with only the dust of the road on their bodies, others with injuries and dragging some unrecognizable corpses.

The sudden large-scale retaliation caught the elven teams in the border buffer zone unprepared.

If Grey hadn't retained some semblance of reason, he might have already led the Black Rock Dwarf legion to attack the elven border outposts.

Meanwhile, in Silvermoon Fortress, the largest fortress on the western frontier of the Elven Empire, a dozen elven generals gathered around a magic sandbox, observing the glowing white dots on the sandbox dimming and eventually turning into nothingness.

"The pretext for war is already in place, it is time to start the operation!"

An elf with a ponytail tied behind her head, her golden hair like a ray of pure sunshine, raised her head, her beautiful face wearing a frosty expression, and said without any emotional fluctuations.

"Actually, there's no need to make such a fuss.

Those dwarves hiding underground know we're going to attack them!"

Another red-haired, male middle-aged elf said arrogantly, causing several colleagues around him to nod slightly.

"Humph!"

"Even if we are to attack the dwarves, we must at least have sufficient reason in name, so as not to tarnish the reputation of our Lord!"

Another black-haired elven woman wearing a green dress said softly, but with an unquestionable attitude.

"The Holy Maiden is right!"

The middle-aged elf couldn't help but steal a glance at the jade beauty in front of him, and willingly accepted her statement.

"Then, I will issue the mission, all legions listen to the order!"

"May the stars be with me!!"

Two years after the human civilization launched a war against the orc empire, the rulers of the Elven Empire could finally no longer restrain themselves and began their imperial expansion!
