Chapter 167
"Okay, okay, don't waste time, go to the classroom first. Maybe the owl will fly over soon to deliver a message to you."
Hermione's voice was urging.
Devereux swallowed the last mouthful of milk oatmeal, picked up a napkin and wiped his mouth, put it away quickly, got up and walked towards the classroom with Hermione.
Although their class schedules were very different, the path from the cafeteria to the stairwell was still the same, so they naturally walked side by side.
"Speaking of which," Hermione said softly as she walked, "you should really pay attention to your health and run to the campus hospital every day these past few weeks."
Devereux smiled and waved his hand: "Don't worry, I don't want to live there myself. Besides, the hospital can't contain me at all."
Hermione shook her head helplessly.
Just as the two were chatting and about to reach the door of the cafeteria, Devereaux stopped in his steps and his face suddenly fell. He almost subconsciously wanted to turn around and walk back, but it was already too late.
A familiar black figure walked towards him, with a gloomy expression and dark circles under his eyes - Snape.
"It's over, it's over, today's bad luck will come in advance."
Devereaux groaned secretly in his mind.
Snape had obviously seen him, and his sharp eyes locked on the target in an instant. Before Devereaux could speak, a deep roar broke out from Snape's mouth:
"Devereaux! How dare you use a body double to pretend to be seriously ill, and then run around the campus! Follow me!"
Without any hesitation, Snape grabbed Devereux's arm and forced him away.
Hermione stood there, stunned for a moment, then showed a "Sure enough" expression and waved to Devereaux.
"Come on, I'm going to the classroom first."
Devereux grimaced and followed Snape forward. He originally thought that the other party would drag him directly back to the campus hospital, but the route seemed wrong - Snape's direction was clearly leading to the underground laboratory.
"professor!"
Devereux spoke bravely, with a hint of pleading in his tone.
"I have to go to class soon. As you know, it's already October now, and I don't have as much class time as other students. If I miss class again, I'll really be behind on schedule!"
Snape stopped and glanced back at him coldly, his eyes clearly saying: "Are you talking in your sleep?"
Devereux suddenly felt that what he had just said was a bit lacking in confidence.
He scratched his head in embarrassment.
He can't keep up?
Devereaux is now good enough to be a teacher of seventh graders.
That's because the school can't keep up with his pace.
But no matter what, you still have to fight for the right to attend classes. When he was thinking about how to continue struggling, Snape suddenly took out a piece of paper from his arms and handed it over casually.
Devero subconsciously took it, looked down, and was stunned.
"written request for leave?"
He read the content carefully, and the expression on his face changed from shock to astonishment, and finally turned into a subtle joy.
It was written clearly on it - he was allowed to take a full month's leave for the reason: to participate in major scientific research projects.
"A month?! No classes until Halloween?"
Devereux's eyes widened and he couldn't help but confirm it over and over again, and finally his eyes fell on the signature.
As expected - Severus Snape's name was written neatly at the bottom of the paper.
Before Devereaux had fully digested the news of his request for leave, and with some hesitation in his steps, he was taken to the underground laboratory by Snape.
Pushing open the heavy wooden door, the familiar pungent smell of medicine hit his face, and Devereaux wrinkled his nose. The central area of the laboratory was still filled with various bottles and jars as when he last came.
But this time, the place against the wall looked a little different - there was an extra bed there, and there were even two beds side by side.
It was the bed that Percy had slept on before and a new bed.
Snape pointed to the bed he had conjured for Percy.
"You will most likely have to stay here overnight for the next month. We have a lot to do. Inventing a potion is a difficult task, let alone the fact that we are now developing a whole new set of treatments."
The coldness and certainty in his tone seemed to have sentenced Devereux to life imprisonment, which made the latter's face almost turn into a bitter melon.
"Sleeping in the lab?!"
Devereux almost shouted, his whole face full of resistance.
"Professor, Hogwarts has dormitories, why do I have to live here?"
Snape curled his lips and revealed a hint of sneer:
"Haha, it seems that you haven't experienced a life where you can only sleep two hours a day, right? Don't worry, you will soon understand what real potion research is."
Devereaux suddenly felt his scalp numb and waved his hands repeatedly.
"Professor! I am an eleven-year-old child! You are simply exploiting labor!"
Snape sneered, obviously not taking his protest to heart, and was about to say something to hit Devereaux, when——
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
A heavy knock on the door interrupted the conversation between the two.
Snape's expression immediately calmed down, and he turned and walked towards the door. He opened the door and after seeing the person clearly, his tone became gentler:
"Victor, I'm glad you can accept my invitation. Please come in."
He said, turning slightly to let the visitor enter the laboratory.
Devereux was stunned, and his eyes fell on the figure at the door - a middle-aged witch wearing gray robes and rimless glasses walked in.
She looked familiar. Deveraux remembered that he had seen her from afar at the opening ceremony and several college duels. But other than that, his memory of this witch was blank.
Deveraux's head turned rapidly: "Huh? Who is this? Oh, she should be the professor of the senior elective course!"
After all, he was still studying basic courses, such as Transfiguration, Charms, and Defense Against the Dark Arts, and had never been exposed to any elective content. Therefore, it was normal that he had no chance to meet her.
But on second thought, Deveraux's mouth corners slightly raised - not having seen her, it means there are new "entries" to unlock!
