Hogwarts: I, Tom, am really not Voldemort!
#16 - Chapter 16: Charms
In the dining hall, at the Gryffindor table, Tom was waving to Harry.
"Tom, what brings you here?" Harry was overjoyed to see his friend, responding enthusiastically.
"A Slytherin coming over can't be good news. He's probably plotting something," a sarcastic voice chimed in.
Tom looked in the direction of the voice. Red hair, first year, it had to be Ron Weasley.
"Ron, don't say that. Tom is a good person. He helped me at the train platform." Even though Ron was his friend, Harry still defended Tom.
"Who knows if he had other ideas back then? Look at him now, he's already becoming a leader among the Slytherin first years. He might become the third Dark Lord," Ron retorted, unconvinced.
'Arrogant, sensitive, foolish, insecure. This is Ron at this time. I really can't get along with him now.'
Tom couldn't listen anymore, and his wand slipped from his hand.
"That's prejudice, and prejudice is unacceptable, Mr. Weasley."
"Langlock!"
Ron's tongue was immediately stuck to the roof of his mouth, and the world was instantly quiet.
"Sorry for doing that to your friend, the spell will wear off in a bit. I need to talk to you, I just wanted a little quiet," Tom patted Harry on the shoulder, apologizing 'sincerely'.
Just then, the Weasley twins, George and Fred, popped up: "My foolish brother, we told you not to talk nonsense. Now you're paying the price. Riddle, we apologize on Ron's behalf."
Tom looked at the twins, who had appeared suddenly and were even better suited for this than Harry, and unhesitatingly approached them: "Senior George and Senior Fred, I was planning to find you through Harry, but I didn't expect to run into you so coincidentally. Could I have a word in private? I need your help with something."
Saying that, he turned to ask Harry: "Harry, do you want to come too?"
After the others agreed, Tom led them to a secluded corner. Fred and George couldn't contain their curiosity and were the first to ask: "Alright, what's the deal? I'm really curious, what could make a Slytherin like you come to us Gryffindors for help?"
"It's about the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Honestly, what do you think of the Defense Against the Dark Arts class?" Tom sincerely asked the three people in front of him.
Harry, who hadn't taken the Defense Against the Dark Arts class yet, looked confused.
The twins, who had already heard about it, looked disgusted: "Honestly, it's not good. I heard Quirrell teaches very badly."
"It's not just bad, it's so awful it's beyond words. So, in order to enjoy our right to quality education, Slytherin plans to unite with the other three houses to impeach Professor Quirrell. Will you help get Gryffindor on board?" Tom revealed his plan.
"Is that really okay?" Harry was still a little hesitant.
Tom described the scenes of the Defense Against the Dark Arts class to Harry, and persuaded him kindly: "There's nothing wrong with it. You don't want to spend this whole year's Defense Against the Dark Arts class in darkness and the smell of garlic, do you? In the end, you'll not only have to endure disgust, but you won't learn anything."
Harry imagined the tragic scenes of the upcoming Defense Against the Dark Arts class and unhesitatingly sided with Tom.
"Don't worry! We've got it covered." With Fred and George's personalities of enjoying a good show and loving pranks, they happily agreed to this kind of thing.
After finalizing this collaboration, Tom hurriedly bid farewell to the three and rushed to the Charms class in the afternoon.
"I wonder if I might have the honor of knowing what Mr. Riddle is researching?" A strange voice suddenly came from the front.
"Professor Flitwick," Cassandra exclaimed in surprise.
The exclamation pulled Tom back from the world of books. He closed the book and found Professor Flitwick standing in front of the table without him realizing.
It was just that the other person was too short, and the table blocked him tightly, so he hadn't noticed it for a moment.
"It's about the Patronus Charm," Tom answered Professor Flitwick truthfully.
"? ? ?"
"Perhaps I'm getting old, would Mr. Riddle please say that again?"
Professor Flitwick was full of question marks, and he doubted his ears.
"It's about the Patronus Charm."
Tom had to repeat it again.
"......" Professor Flitwick immediately fell silent.
Who would have thought that a little wizard on his third day of school would start looking at the Patronus Charm? Professor Flitwick had never encountered such a thing in his teaching career.
After a long while, Professor Flitwick kindly advised Tom: "Mr. Riddle, the Patronus Charm is a very profound defensive spell, it's too difficult for you. You should focus on the knowledge in the textbooks for now."
Tom nodded in agreement.
Seeing that Tom was listening, Professor Flitwick didn't say anything more. He turned around and walked to the high stack of books in front of the podium, looked around, and began today's formal lesson.
"...... Charms is the most interesting of all the courses at Hogwarts. Today, we will start learning from one of the simplest spells—the Lumos Charm. The incantation is 'Lumos', everyone repeat after me......"
As the simplest spell in the wizarding world, the Lumos Charm is basically something anyone can do, making it very suitable as the first lesson of the Charms class.
But such a simple spell became very interesting in Professor Flitwick's humorous explanation, making Tom listen with great interest.
After the explanation, Professor Flitwick let everyone try it themselves.
The wand tips of more than a dozen Slytherin students lit up with white light. Of course, the Hufflepuffs on the other side were also good, with only two fewer successful people than Slytherin.
As for Tom, he didn't even take out his wand. The tip of his right index finger turned into a huge light bulb.
"Beautiful wandless and silent casting, five points to Slytherin," Professor Flitwick exclaimed excitedly when he saw Tom's operation, causing others to cast admiring glances at Tom.
And Professor Flitwick, like Professor McGonagall, had a hint of worry hidden in his eyes. The figure of Tom in front of him seemed to gradually overlap with someone of amazing talent.
After class, Tom let Draco and Cassandra leave first and called out to Professor Flitwick.
"Professor Flitwick, I have a question about a spell that I would like to ask you about."
"What problem is bothering Mr. Riddle? It's not the Patronus Charm, is it?" Professor Flitwick teased Tom.
Tom admitted with a serious face.
"Yes, Professor, you guessed right."
"It's the Patronus Charm!"
