Hogwarts: I, Tom, am really not Voldemort!
#31 - Chapter 31: First Meeting with Voldemort
Tom ultimately chose to face reality. As for the future, he would take it one step at a time.
While Tom was sighing and lamenting his difficult life, he didn't know that Quirrell was having an even harder time in a corner of the castle.
"Quirinus, how is the task I assigned you progressing?" Voldemort, awakened on the back of Quirrell's head, demanded.
"M-Master, I am trying my best. I'm afraid that too much action will arouse Dumbledore's suspicion," Quirrell stammered.
"Useless thing, it's been so long, and you haven't made any progress," Voldemort's anger flared up.
"Ah… Ah… Master, please spare me, spare me this time."
Intense pain struck Quirrell's soul. His body curled up, and beads of sweat dripped from his forehead, accompanied by shrill cries and pleas for mercy.
Voldemort tormented Quirrell for a long time until the anger in his heart gradually subsided. He continued to ask, "How is Hogwarts lately? Has anything major happened?"
"N-Nothing much seems to be happening."
Honestly, Quirrell's mind had been preoccupied with the task Voldemort assigned him. Who knew what was happening at Hogwarts?
Quirrell's hesitation provoked an even harsher rebuke from Voldemort: "Useless thing, you know nothing! What good are you?!"
It took a long time for Quirrell to gradually recover from the breakdown, only to hear another piece of bad news.
"I will be taking over your first-year Defense Against the Dark Arts class tomorrow."
"Ah?" Quirrell was stunned by Voldemort's words. It seemed, perhaps, probably, that he hadn't taught a lower-year Defense Against the Dark Arts class in a very long time.
"What is it? Is there a problem?" Seeing Quirrell's expression, Voldemort's sinister voice echoed in his mind. If Quirrell gave the wrong answer, he would be in trouble the next second.
"Um, Master, Dumbledore found an assistant teacher to take charge of the lower-year courses," Quirrell said, avoiding the important and dwelling on the trivial, not daring to reveal that he had completely delegated the authority.
"Who is it?" Voldemort's tone became even more gloomy.
Quirrell quickly replied, "It's a first-year Slytherin wizard."
"A first-year wizard?" Voldemort narrowed his eyes, his mind beginning to ponder the deeper meaning of Dumbledore's move.
"Yes, Master, it's a first-year Slytherin wizard named Riddle," Quirrell quickly added.
"Riddle?" Voldemort didn't know how many years it had been since he had heard that surname from someone else's mouth. "What is his full name?"
"Tom Riddle!"
Voldemort thought he must be hallucinating from sleeping for too long. He couldn't help but raise his voice and ask again, "You said his name is what?"
"Master, his name is Tom Riddle!" Sensing the different emotion in Voldemort's voice, Quirrell repeated it more carefully.
The excessive surprise caused Voldemort to fall silent for a moment.
"Master, is there something wrong with this Tom Riddle?" Looking at the silent Voldemort, Quirrell asked cautiously.
"Quirinus, go to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom tomorrow," Voldemort didn't answer Quirrell. After a brief command, he fell back into slumber.
The next day, Tom, as usual, was by the lake preparing to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts to the Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs, but he didn't expect to see an uninvited guest.
'Why is he here?' Seeing the long-absent Quirrell, Tom felt a murmur in his heart.
Voldemort, who was possessing Quirrell, was also surprised and uncertain. The moment he saw Tom, Voldemort felt like he was seeing himself when he first entered school, but this also overturned his initial guess.
"It's not the diary. Compared to the diary, he's too young. Could it be that a Horcrux found a way to revive, as I guessed? But the same name and appearance as my younger self, if it's not a Horcrux, it's really hard to explain. Who exactly are you?"
While Voldemort was staring at Tom, full of suspicion, Tom also felt that scorching gaze that seemed to want to devour him.
'Interesting. It seems old Voldie couldn't resist his curiosity and came to see me. I wonder if he'll be surprised or frightened to see me like this. But as a courtesy, I can't be stingy. I'll teach some fun things in this class.'
After confirming that the one who had come was not Quirrell, but Voldemort himself after awakening, Tom decided to temporarily change the lesson content.
"Professor Riddle, aren't you going to start the class yet?" Seeing that Tom seemed to be in a daze, Harry couldn't help but remind him.
Hearing the coveted title of "Professor Riddle," Voldemort was once again in a trance, and an emotion of jealousy involuntarily surged in his heart.
On the other side, Tom, who had regained his senses, nodded slightly to Harry in thanks and began to teach the students in front of him: "Today, I originally wanted to continue the content of the previous class, but I feel that everyone is a bit tired of it, so today we will temporarily change the course content. Does anyone know what the Unforgivable Curses are?"
Harry, who was with Tom all day, was the first to raise his hand.
"Harry, you're up."
The named Harry quickly replied: "The Killing Curse, the Cruciatus Curse, and the Imperius Curse."
Tom remained unmoved. After quieting the scene, he continued, "Of course, this class will not teach you all three Unforgivable Curses at once. Today we will mainly learn the Killing Curse. Does anyone know the characteristics of the Killing Curse?"
"......"
No one responded to Tom, and the scene was awkward for a moment. Just as Tom was about to continue speaking on his own, Ron murmured, "Undefendable?"
Tom was very satisfied with Ron's quickness: "Very good, one point to Gryffindor. Weasley is right, the most important feature of the Killing Curse is that it is undefendable."
"Efficient, convenient, targeted at the soul, one-hit kill, instant death, no pain, that is the Killing Curse. You have to know that there is nothing in this world that can't be solved with one Avada Kedavra."
Then, Tom waved his wand and enlarged the distant stones, arranging a dozen huge rocks in a row.
"Next, release the Killing Curse at the boulders there. No aiming at people, no aiming at people, no aiming at people. I'll say the important things three times. Anyone who doesn't comply should prepare to go to Azkaban."
After Tom gave a stern warning, he began to demonstrate to the young wizards: "Next, follow me. Draw a lightning bolt from top to bottom with your wand, fill your heart with killing intent, aim at the target, and shout loudly when casting the spell—"
"Avada Kedavra!"
Bright green light bloomed with the most dazzling brilliance in the open space by the lake.
