Hogwarts: I, Tom, am really not Voldemort!

#92 - Chapter 92: Hall of Death

After finishing his business in the Hall of Prophecy, Tom left the room and randomly chose a door to enter.

Stone steps surrounded the entire room, a stone platform protruded from the center of a stone pit, and atop it stood an archway draped with curtains.

Death Chamber

This time, Tom, usually unlucky, finally had a stroke of good fortune and arrived at the Death Chamber he had longed for.

Walking down the stone steps to the bottom of the stone pit, he slowly walked into the archway on the stone platform. The power inadvertently revealed inside made Tom feel a familiar power he had once felt—the power of death.

As he got closer to the archway, Tom seemed to faintly hear sounds coming from behind it.

"The world of the dead?"

Recalling Sirius Black's death in the original story after being hit by Bellatrix and falling into the veil, Tom couldn't help but guess.

Looking at the veil on the archway, which moved without any wind, Tom had an urge to lift it, but a tremor from the depths of his soul strongly prevented him from doing so.

Tom generally just liked to test the waters on the edge of courting death, but he didn't actually want to die, so he immediately stopped reaching out, and then...

"Avada Kedavra!"

A full-power Killing Curse blasted over, the thick green light passing straight through the veil and disappearing into nothingness behind the archway, but the archway and veil were not damaged in the slightest.

"The power of the Killing Curse can't shake it. The power of death released when the Killing Curse struck just now gave me the feeling of fighting against a world. Combining Sirius Black's death in the original story, the veil may really be the world of the dead, and this archway is more like a one-way passage; once you enter, there's no return."

Tom combined the current situation to make what he thought was a reasonable guess, then he took out the Gaunt family ring inlaid with the Resurrection Stone.

After Tom took out the ring, he sensed that the Resurrection Stone on it seemed to resonate with the archway, or more precisely, it seemed to resonate with the souls that might exist behind the archway, but it was blocked by some unknown force.

"According to 'The Tales of Beedle the Bard,' Cadmus Peverell resurrected his beloved girl, but she was sad, cold, and lonely. She and Cadmus were forever separated by a veil. Could it be that this so-called veil is not just a figure of speech, but a real existence, like..."

Tom couldn't help but look at the veil on the archway, "Perhaps this is the barrier between life and death."

"Then, perhaps the resurrection game is really feasible, such as breaking this barrier, or entering the world of the dead and directly resurrecting the soul there..."

Suddenly, Tom seemed to realize the true use of the Resurrection Stone.

Just as Tom was researching the archway and the Resurrection Stone in the Death Chamber, a woman with pink hair stopped Rufus Scrimgeour, who had just returned to the Auror Office.

"Scrimgeour, something happened."

Seeing the woman's anxious appearance, Rufus Scrimgeour had a bad feeling.

"Tonks, what happened? Speak slowly, don't rush."

"During the time you were away, someone reported that the Dark Mark appeared near the town near Mr. Barty Crouch's manor. Dawlish and Williamson immediately set off to investigate."

Hearing about the Dark Mark, Rufus Scrimgeour's unease grew even stronger, and he quickly asked, "And then?"

"Just now, they sent back a message that when they arrived, the dark wizards suspected to be Death Eaters had already left, and they missed them."

Hearing Tonks say this, Scrimgeour was about to make follow-up arrangements, but he saw that Tonks seemed to want to continue speaking, obviously the matter didn't end there, so he hurriedly asked, "What else happened?"

Seeing this, Tonks quickly continued, "Then, Dawlish and Williamson thought about going to Crouch Manor to ask Mr. Crouch if he knew what happened, but..."

Hearing the word "but," Scrimgeour's intuition, honed by years as an Auror, made him feel that something big must have happened, so he quickly urged Tonks, "Don't hesitate, say everything at once."

"But they found Mr. Crouch, who had been attacked, in Crouch Manor, suspected of being hit by a Stunning Spell and a Memory Charm. Now they have taken Mr. Crouch to St. Mungo's for treatment."

Just as Tonks finished explaining everything in one breath, Scrimgeour noticed something was wrong: "Wait, who did you just say? Mr. Crouch? How long ago was this?"

Tonks looked at Scrimgeour's appearance with some confusion: "Yes, it's Mr. Crouch. Dawlish and Williamson sent back the message more than an hour ago, and according to their initial inspection, Mr. Crouch had been attacked for some time when they arrived."

Finished, Scrimgeour recalled the strangeness when he met 'Mr. Crouch' in the main hall of the Ministry of Magic, and he felt that he had made a big mistake.

"Scrimgeour, what's wrong?"

Tonks looked at Scrimgeour's extremely ugly face and asked uneasily.

"Someone impersonated Mr. Crouch and invaded the Ministry of Magic!"

Hearing Scrimgeour say this, everyone in the office changed their expressions.

.........

In the Death Chamber, Tom had thoroughly researched the power of death, and at this time, Barty Crouch's Polyjuice Potion's time was up.

Tom, who had returned to his original appearance, took out another vial of Polyjuice Potion, added a strand of hair to it, and drank it down.

Tom, who once again experienced the disgusting taste of Polyjuice Potion, put on a new set of robes and pulled up his hood to cover his face.

After doing all this, Tom looked at the time and felt that it was almost time. Staying any longer might bring unnecessary risks, so he returned the way he came along the stone steps.

Pushing open the door and returning to the circular room, Tom happened to bump into a group of Aurors led by Scrimgeour who were coming in from the outside.

In the silent room, the two groups of people faced each other unexpectedly.
