Hollywood Drawing

2-Hollywood script

Anderson picked up the document bag on the coffee table and opened the button under Wayne's expectant gaze. He took out two documents stapled inside, the upper one was a thick stack, and the lower one was a few thin pages.

"Happy holiday?"

Anderson murmured under his breath and opened the thick script, flipping through it quickly. After a rough read, Anderson nodded with satisfaction. The script was completely created in Hollywood's standard writing format.

Similarly, as the basis of a play, professional script writing can make every process of film production smooth and smooth. The management will be excited, the producer will be relieved, the director will be comfortable, and the actors will be attentive. So what kind of script can be considered a truly professional script writing format?

Just like the one in Professor Anderson's hands now, it is standardly divided into six parts.

1. Scene description and character actions. This sentence usually appears under the scene title. It is used to provide necessary description of the scene and explain the actor's ongoing behavior.

2. The character name is the name of the character. If it is a supporting role, you can write "Kidnapper A", "Robber B", etc.

3. Dialogue, the lines spoken by characters, including voice-overs, monologues, and narrations, all belong to lines. Write clearly.

4. Auxiliary descriptions, voice-overs and foreign voices should be marked after the character's name, and other descriptions should be marked below the character's name, which can briefly describe the character's actions or status. For example, "coughing", "crying", "excitedly".

5. Transition method, that is, the method of switching between pictures. We often say fade in, fade out, dissolve in, and fuse. They are all transition methods. Mark them out when necessary. Generally, you don’t need to write them down.

6. Scene title, INT is equivalent to "内" in the Chinese script, which represents the interior scene. The format of Hollywood is "interior/exterior scene-location-time".

In Hollywood script writing, scene titles cannot include scene numbers, such as scene one and scene two. Because the director decides the shooting order of each scene.

The above constitutes the standard script format of Hollywood. Of course, the scripts of large-cost and large-scale commercial films are basically above this standard and are much more refined, such as the so-called three-paragraph narrative circulated on the Internet in later generations.

Professor Anderson read the script for the second time and began to read it carefully. He couldn't help but smile when he saw the absurd setting of the protagonist being killed every day. After reading more than half of it, he found that some parts of the script did not conform to ordinary logic at all, and were even a bit ridiculous.

But it uses classic Hollywood routines to make this story self-explanatory. Anderson knows that some things cannot be taken seriously. The appeal of this script lies in these exquisite designs. This is obviously a black horror comedy with some cult attributes.

"Your script is quite interesting. If it is filmed according to the script, it will be very attractive to a considerable group of people, especially teenagers."

Anderson was surprised to put down the script, which was completely beyond the scope of a graduation short story. At least as far as the script is concerned, it is very professional. It seems that this child has a very sufficient knowledge reserve.

"Teacher, you know, I have been studying black films since my freshman year. Although I have made several experimental short films before, they were not recognized by my classmates and professors.

Almost all professors except you do not approve of my style. They felt that this kind of film style with obvious black attributes, or absurd settings, bloody scenes, and the dark side of people's hearts was too niche, so I wrote this script with a less obvious style. "

It's not that Wayne only wanted to make such noir films. In his previous life, he was a movie projectionist and watched many films of various types, but he didn't leave much of an impression. In the last stage of his life, he was crazy about this kind of noir movies. He watched a lot of movies of this type, no matter whether they were good or bad.

His biggest advantage was the images of movies he had seen in his previous life in his mind. However, he had always been a fan of film noir, and his mind was filled with these films, so he took advantage of the trend to study this genre.

"There is nothing wrong with having a strong personal style, but after all, movies are mass entertainment, and you have to be clear about the balance. It can be seen that the script you have is completely beyond the scope of a graduation film, but there are many difficulties in filming it." .

Anderson patted the script, thinking about the difficulty of filming it, and picked up the thin document below.

"Okay, I have to admit that you are better than I thought. You actually made a detailed project plan. If you add the complete project plan, this can be regarded as a complete business project with clear selling points. "

"Teacher, although it is almost impossible for a new independent film maker like me to get company investment, I still hope to make a plan. I definitely dare not underestimate the difficulty of making a feature film, so I hope to make all possible preparations in advance."

Some dreamers who come to Hollywood always have the illusion that if they have a good script, a film company will invest in it. The reality is that the film company will not read your script at all, they will read your plan first.

If you don’t have a project plan, and you’re a newbie and you still want to be a director, you might as well go fuck yourself. Countless scripts are submitted to film companies every day, and the number of individual scripts purchased by film companies is estimated to be less than one ten thousandth.

Even if you buy it, you don't know when it will be made into a finished film. Ninety-nine percent of it will be thrown into the script library to eat dust. Why do you let those capitals take one look at a script with no prospects and buy it for you for hundreds of dollars? Ten thousand U.S. dollars?

Even after years of systematic study, Wayne would sometimes fantasize that someone would take a fancy to his script and write a big check with a stroke of a pen, enough for him to finish the movie.

This is basically fantasy and nonsense. If you want to realize the filming of a movie, the key is to submit a business project plan to potential investors and film companies, a detailed conception and investigation on how to prepare, select, shoot and produce the film. Rigorous plan.

"Wayne, with this I can try to help you get investment. I have seen many very old directors who are still running around for funding for their first feature film. Most of them actually need this kind of investment." Complete project plan,."

Professor Anderson flipped through a few thin pages of the plan, which considered all the problems of the film in detail, including possible problems and solutions to the filming.

Although the investment is not high, it is still a sky-high price for newcomers. For newcomers who have not yet achieved any results, not to mention film companies, even private investors will not take a second look. Anderson hopes to help him find some film funds that support newcomers.

"Teacher, I have a way to raise funds. The plan I made is based on the funds I can raise. I may not have too many classes. Time is very tight. I want to make sure to take pictures of him before graduation. come out."

"Okay, your credits in the last academic year are enough for graduation. What you need is to get hands-on and personally participate in the production of the film. Work hard. If you can produce the effect of the script, I believe this will be helpful for you to find a job in the future. Absolute advantage."

Anderson looked at the young man in front of him. The reason why he was described as withdrawn, cold, and unsociable by his classmates was because he spent all his time studying. This is a smart kid who knows what he wants and works tirelessly to get it.

Wayne drank the coffee in his cup, packed up his script, stood up and said goodbye to the professor.

"Teacher, I also made an appointment with my agent, so I'll leave first."

"Go ahead and call me if you need any help."

Professor Anderson patted him on the shoulder.

He left the teacher's office and went to the coffee shop next to the school. After ordering a cup of coffee, he looked at the passers-by outside the window in trance, waiting for his agent.

Although he has lived in the greater Los Angeles area for 20 years since he was born in 1970, he still cannot forget the real experience on the other side of the Pacific, which happened just like yesterday.

When he was young, he accidentally watched a movie called Cinema Paradiso, and he went to study to be a movie projectionist. What interrupted his film career for more than ten years was illness. In bed, he became passive and became obsessed with film noir. Until he fell asleep, he was still immersed in movies every day.

God was fair. He took away his disease-ridden life and gave him a good life in this life. After he was five years old, he went to live on a farm in Ventura County with his parents. Although his father was not a rich man, the family was not short of money and gave him a good learning environment.

In this life, Wayne is not ignorant. He knows very well what he wants and has been working hard for it. His family environment also gave him enough conveniences, and he attended all private schools since elementary school.

From childhood to adolescence, his mother took him frequently to visit the film sets of former friends, allowing him to carefully observe the world's film factories. Learning to become a director is actually an expensive process.

Starting from college, I purchased relevant books and expensive film films, and rented equipment to shoot my own experimental short films. Most families really cannot afford these expenses.

"Hi, Wayne. What do you want with me? Oh my gosh, if you hadn't called me, I would have forgotten about you as a movie director. Waiter, give me a latte."

A young man, a few years older than Wayne, pulled out a chair and sat across from him. He was neatly dressed in a suit and looked positive.

"Jimmy, I'm about to graduate and start my first feature film right away. After a while I need your help to start recruiting, crew, and a few actors."

He looked at his agent. Jimmy came to him when he was a junior in college. He was a novice agent who had just left the CAA mailroom. He heard that the film and video major in Southern California had a talented director, so he immediately found him. Hope to represent him in the brokerage contract.

"What kind of film? Are you still making those bloody experimental short films before?"

Jimmy took a sip of coffee and asked Wayne with a frown.
