Hollywood Drawing

8 - On location in schools and mental hospitals

At seven o'clock in the morning, Wayne got up and started preparing materials. All the things needed were put neatly into the bag. Looking at Naomi who was still putting on makeup, he shook his head and said to her:

"We have to hurry up and get there early. I, the project planner, can't be late."

"Okay, I'm ready and ready to go at any time. Do you want me to help you get your bag?"

Naomi dropped her eyebrow pencil, came over and hugged Wayne's arm, and took the file package from his hand. Wayne didn't refuse. He quite enjoyed the beauty's thoughtfulness, which easily gave men an unparalleled sense of accomplishment.

He took the car keys, locked the door and went downstairs. He drove the blonde beauty straight to Jasmine Cafe. When they parked the car and entered the store, no one came yet. The two of them ordered coffee and sandwiches and waited for everyone as breakfast.

The first one to come was Luke, who was very enthusiastic about this matter. Maybe it was Wayne's work attitude that infected him, or maybe it was the first time he was deeply involved in the production of a movie that made him unable to sleep well.

Then came the crew members one after another. Wayne had only met them once and was relatively unfamiliar with them. Everyone had nothing to talk about, they just introduced themselves briefly and waited for others in silence.

At 7:50, Jimmy walked in with Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. The three people pulled out the chairs, sat down, and Jimmy said to everyone:

"Sorry, it seems we are late. I hope we haven't caused any trouble to anyone."

"It's not eight o'clock yet, you are not late. Okay, everyone is here. I think everyone is not familiar with it yet. It doesn't matter. You will become familiar with it when the shooting starts. I asked everyone to come together today to inform everyone, Shooting begins two days later.

The filming locations were mainly in Orange County, and the school scenes were at Vincent High School. I made an agreement with them that the school would help clear the set and provide some necessary props when we officially started filming. Ross and Mia, if the props you need are available at the school, feel free to coordinate with them.

Lily, if you need a makeup room, ask Luke to coordinate a classroom with them, we do not rent makeup trailers. Is there a problem? "

Seeing that everyone had arrived, he began to arrange work with everyone. Seeing prop artist Ross and makeup artist Lily nod, Wayne continued:

"For the hospital scene, there is an abandoned mental hospital in the suburbs of Orange County. Luke, we only use half of the first floor. You and Ross need to take a look and arrange it in advance."

"Sorry to interrupt, Wayne, it looks like Mia and I can't handle the props and layout alone. I need help."

After hearing what he said about decorating the hospital, Ross knocked on the table to remind Wayne.

"No problem, Luke, let's find two more temporary workers. Do you have any other questions? About the props and scenery."

"Not yet. I'll take a look when I get there. If there are any problems, I'll be looking for you."

Wayne nodded at him and continued:

“These are the two main locations. The scenes were shot intensively, with scenes on the road and tunnels in the middle, and finally we found an empty highway and bridge to shoot.

If the shooting cycle goes well, it will take about two months. I hope everyone will show a professional attitude. This is the situation. If you have any questions, ask them now. When the official shooting starts, I don't want the work to be interrupted. "

After saying that, I looked at the group of people around me. This crew was very crude, with only a dozen or so people in the final group. When Steve, the lighting engineer, raised his hand, Wayne motioned for him to speak up.

"Where did we live in the past? I'm sorry, I'm just afraid that it's your first time making a video, and there are some things you won't consider."

When he finished speaking, before Wayne could speak, Luke answered him.

"The hotel has been booked in advance. All food and accommodation are there. It's not far from the filming location, just two blocks away."

Seeing Steve nod, he continued to look at everyone. He knew that he was a novice director, and these crew members had all participated in film production more or less. They would definitely doubt themselves, as long as they worked No problem, everything else is negotiable.

For these people, this may be a job that lasts for about two months, and nothing else represents it. Anyone who has read the script knows that this alternative horror film with a small investment has little hope of success.

"Well, since there are no problems, everyone can go back and get ready. We will meet in front of this coffee shop in the morning in two days. There will be a car to take everyone there. By the way, Jimmy, are the supporting actors okay?"

Everyone got up and walked out together. He asked Jimmy again worriedly.

"No problem, don't worry. Apart from finding a handsome middle-aged man for the teacher role, and leaving a few background extras for the kids in the school, everything else is easy. New actors are especially easy to find."

After Jimmy finished speaking to Wayne, he nodded to him and drove away first. He also drove Naomi back to the apartment. After making arrangements, he breathed a sigh of relief. The first phase of the work was finally completed, and the rest was just a matter of filming.

Only then did he finally understand why the teacher always said that a movie is the result of the combined efforts of everyone on the crew. He didn't have a casting director to help with auditions and casting, and he didn't have a producer or production manager to help control funding and crew issues.

There are no photographers and photography assistants to help arrange camera locations, and there are not a few assistant directors to do separate framing and shooting. To be honest, these early arrangements made him physically and mentally exhausted.

After all the hard work he put into building this simple crew, he felt like he was running out of resources, but he still had to arrange what needed to be arranged, and at least he was moving forward step by step now.

Picking up the phone, he dialed Luke's number.

"Luke, this is Wayne. Tomorrow you can confirm the rental bus and all the equipment and load it on the bus in advance to avoid any accidents."

"Okay, I'll arrange to load the car tomorrow afternoon."

After hearing Luke's answer, he sat down on the balcony with relief and continued to draw the shots. Naomi finally returned to the opposite side, allowing him to draw the drawings while thinking about what he had not yet prepared.

He pulled out a piece of paper from the typewriter and slowly marked it with a pencil. The location was slowly finalized, and the props, photography equipment, and scenery were all in place. Wayne also had to review these himself before filming to make sure there were no problems.

If mistakes are made in this early preparation, it will definitely become a big trouble during the shooting. If there is a slight delay in shooting or shooting accident, the cost may be overrun. If it exceeds the budget, it may really be abandoned halfway because of money.

We also need to consider that this is a rough crew that has been cobbled together for the first time. It is inevitable that there will be tacit understanding issues. Well, then we should prioritize filming simpler scenes in the early stage to find the actors' condition and to get along with the crew.

It can be seen that the two main female actors will definitely be at odds with each other during the filming, but Wayne believes that under the constraints of the contract and the successful completion of the film, driven by the job qualifications and benefits that may come, they should put aside their differences. If there is any disagreement, go and finish your own work first.

His mother told him when he was young that there is no harmonious crew in Hollywood. Wayne knows this, but if there are differences and conflicts between them, even conflicts are okay, as long as it does not affect the work, otherwise, Wayne will definitely let it go. Get out of here, actors don't cost much anyway.

This is a place where film talents from all over North America and even the whole Western world are concentrated, including beautiful beauties and handsome men. The most indispensable thing in Hollywood or Los Angeles is young actors who have not yet made their mark.

Regarding the role of the female supporting role, when he first considered it, he also thought about using ethnic minorities in order to make the film politically correct. Later, he vetoed it himself. This was the early 1990s, and it was not the era of later generations when life was precious.

At that time, he shook his head when he thought about it. If the creative team did not include black people in a film, it would be racial discrimination. If black people are the villains, it's racist. If it's not black people who save the world, it's racist. Even if your ex-girlfriend is not black or brown, she is suspected of racial discrimination.

To be honest, he has been here for twenty years. He has been in contact with many people of color since he was a child. Even private schools cannot avoid people of color. What he hates the most is Nico. These people are lazy and proficient in stealing, kidnapping and cheating, but they just can't learn to support themselves and their families.

Therefore, even in his future movies, he is not planning to use the kind of black actors who feel good about themselves. If necessary, he can consider a black-skinned but white-hearted type like Will Smith. This kind of black man who strives to integrate into mainstream society is the real one. of smart people.

"Dang, Dang!"

Wayne was writing and drawing on the paper one by one when he heard someone knocking on the door. He crumpled the whole piece of paper vigorously, threw it into the trash can, got up and opened the door.

"Hi, even though we've only been apart for less than half a day, I still miss you. Are you still working?"

He saw Naomi standing playfully outside the door and frowned listening to what she said.

"Naomi, we're just friends!"

The beautiful neighbor’s expression did not change after hearing this. She looked at Wayne’s expression and said:

"Of course, we are good friends. I'm here to invite you to my place for dinner. You don't have any plans for lunch, right?"

Wayne closed the door and followed the playful blond beauty to the opposite side. This woman was always testing him. Wayne thought to himself, if this movie was messed up, this woman would probably fall out faster than turning the book.

The layout of the apartments is the same, but the difference is that her room is obviously much neater than hers. It can be seen that this woman likes to be clean and tidy very much, and may even be a bit mysophobic.

There is a small dining table next to the open kitchen counter. There were two large plates on top, each with a steak and a bottle of red wine.

After he sat down, he lowered his head and realized that his beef was obviously a big piece of meat, obviously considering his appetite.

"Naomi, sometimes you are such a hot little wildcat, and sometimes you are like a careful and perfect lover. You are so charming that people want to hide you in the house just to possess your beauty for myself."

Naomi looked at the man who was cutting the steak elegantly and speaking sweet words, but she knew that it would be better to just listen to these. It only took her two days to see through this man. She would only stop at words and would never stop because of any woman or feelings.
