#46 - Romance film director
As the awards ceremony progressed, Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman won Best Actress and Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy Film for "Driving Miss Daisy," respectively.
The winners for Best Actor and Actress in a Drama Film were Tom Cruise for "Born on the Fourth of July" and Michelle Pfeiffer for "The Fabulous Baker Boys!"
As expected, the Italian film "Cinema Paradiso" won Best Foreign Language Film.
Backstage at the awards ceremony, Aaron Anderson was at the bar, drinking with Giuseppe Tornatore, who had just received his award.
"I'm going back to Italy tomorrow!"
"So soon? Miramax will definitely have some celebrations," Aaron reminded him.
Giuseppe Tornatore shook his head. "I need to get back to the set of 'Everybody's Fine' as soon as possible and come back before the Oscars."
By then, filming for "Everybody's Fine" would definitely be finished.
"Alright, next time you go to Italy, I'll treat you properly," Giuseppe Tornatore patted Aaron on the shoulder.
Afterward, Giuseppe Tornatore returned to the awards banquet hall, as the last few major awards were being presented!
Aaron wasn't very interested in attending the awards ceremony because it was too boring. The Golden Globes were much more cheerful.
Aaron hadn't experienced the Oscars personally, but he knew from television and newspapers that sitting there for hours wouldn't be pleasant.
He thought about just going home with Nicole Kidman after the awards ceremony and headed to the restroom.
On the way, he ran into Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, a couple. Like Denzel Washington, Bruce Willis was also a late bloomer.
After developing in the theater world for many years, he had always played small roles in movies. The movie "Die Hard" two years ago made him famous and one of Hollywood's tough guys!
Arriving at the restroom, Aaron's nose twitched. There was a strong smell of marijuana. There must be an addict inside one of the stalls seeking pleasure.
After relieving himself, he was just about to wash his hands when the stall door opened, and a somewhat unsteady figure walked out.
The two of them made eye contact, and Aaron recognized the person. "Good evening, Mr. Downey!"
Indeed, the person who came out of the stall was none other than Hollywood's second-generation star, Robert Downey Jr.
Robert Downey Jr. rubbed his face, came to his senses, and said, "Oh, good evening. Want a smoke?"
As he spoke, Robert Downey Jr. took out a specially made cigarette.
Aaron shook his head and smiled. "Thanks, but I have things to do later!"
Robert Downey Jr. didn't say anything, nodded, and walked away.
Aaron had no intention of befriending such a Hollywood drug addict…
As the film festival drew to a close, "Driving Miss Daisy" won Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
"Born on the Fourth of July" won Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director, making it the biggest winner.
Hollywood veteran actress Audrey Hepburn ultimately received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Golden Globes!
Outside the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel, Aaron and Nicole Kidman ran into Steven Soderbergh as they were preparing to leave.
"Aaron, did you really leave CAA?"
"Yes, is there any doubt? What about you? What's the situation with you staying abroad all the time?"
Steven Soderbergh looked somewhat helpless. "I'm a bit lost right now. There aren't any suitable projects."
"Sex, Lies, and Videotape" will also be participating in the British Academy Film Awards, the César Awards in France, and other awards ceremonies to increase its fame.
"Anyway, you're still young. If you have any projects, you can start preparing them to gain experience."
Nicole Kidman smiled from the side. "If there are any suitable roles, you can look for me!"
Steven Soderbergh nodded. "I'll consider it, don't worry."
"Alright, we're leaving first," Aaron put his arm around Nicole Kidman and waved to him.
"Sex, Lies, and Videotape" is unique among independent films, which is not bad, but it is difficult to achieve anything at the Golden Globes and Oscars!
Independent films need a work that can break the rules. Box office is the most direct reflection of a film's influence.
The current independent films don't have the capital to compete with the big studios. They have to wait until Disney acquires Miramax, then Disney's resources plus Miramax's public relations tactics.
After Nicole Kidman got into the car, she looked at Aaron Anderson beside her. "Doesn't Steven Soderbergh really have any projects?"
Aaron started the car and said casually, "How could he not? He's a Palme d'Or winner at least."
"I've discussed a few projects with him, but Steven's requirements exceeded the producers' expectations, and none of them were negotiated."
"That's right, the youngest Palme d'Or winner. I guess his conditions aren't low," Nicole Kidman understood.
"So, he decides on the projects himself!"
It's a pity that the success of "Sex, Lies, and Videotape" can only be considered okay. Hollywood is a commercial society, and box office is more important than awards.
Although European art films have always looked down on Hollywood commercial films, Hollywood films disdain all foreign films.
The United States has the largest film market and the most complete film industry, which cannot be denied. If you can't get into Hollywood, you can't be considered internationally influential!
Steven Soderbergh thought that with a Palme d'Or, he could make demands of Hollywood, but he didn't know that he was just a newcomer, and the box office of "Sex, Lies, and Videotape" was only 24 million US dollars, so he didn't have much say.
Young people still haven't realized the cruelty of Hollywood!
In the evening, Nicole Kidman leaned against Aaron's chest, covered in sweat. "Honey, are you thinking of inviting Edward Zwick to direct your film 'Ghost'?"
Aaron rested his head on his hands. "Yes, he's quite suitable for this type of film!"
Actually, Aaron had also considered Rob Reiner, the director of "When Harry Met Sally…", and Garry Marshall, the director of "Pretty Woman."
However, these two are veteran directors, and they are also suitable for romantic dramas, but the price is much higher.
Especially with the success of "When Harry Met Sally…", not to mention "Pretty Woman," which will be released in March, this is a work that is about to become legendary.
Rob Reiner and Garry Marshall's value will further increase.
"Then have you found investors?" Nicole Kidman was still very eager, hoping to quickly gain a foothold in Hollywood!
"Yes, don't worry. I'm currently looking for a distributor for 'Phone Booth'."
Moreover, after "Pretty Woman" is released and receives good reviews and box office, Aaron Anderson's name will naturally be mentioned.
After all, last year he used Warren Beatty to tie himself to this movie.
Even a romantic film like this can be a huge hit? Who dares to say that another romantic film he's optimistic about, "Ghost," can't be a huge hit?
Come on, everyone, please support and give the little brother some motivation…
