Hollywood starts with a broker
#48 - I think it's interesting
Because "Phone Booth" was arranged by 20th Century Fox as a filler in the spring season, Aaron knew they wouldn't pay much attention to it.
With only a month left before the release, Aaron still had to get Nicolas Cage to cooperate with 20th Century Fox's publicity efforts. He was the only selling point for this movie!
As the Oscars approached, the Directors Guild of America Awards, the Writers Guild of America Awards, and the British Academy Film Awards, all leading indicators, were about to be held.
And Aaron Anderson, because of producing "Phone Booth," had joined the Producers Guild of America.
Coincidentally, the Producers Guild was also holding its first Producers Guild Awards this year.
Now, the only major Hollywood guild missing an award is the Screen Actors Guild, but it shouldn't be long before the Screen Actors Guild Awards also emerge.
Inside the Wilshire Theatre on Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, 20th Century Fox arranged a screening of "Phone Booth."
Aaron and director David Fincher sat in the audience, quietly conversing.
"Look, the audience is in a state of high tension for the vast majority of the movie,"
"That's the effect we need!"
David Fincher, of course, took his first film very seriously. Looking around, the feeling was indeed great.
He smiled and said, "Fortunately, we shouldn't have disappointed the audience."
Aaron nodded. "That alone shows that our 'Phone Booth' is comparable to other top-notch suspense films!"
"Top-notch?"
"Yes, you have to have confidence in yourself. Once the movie is released, you will be a true Hollywood director!"
Logically speaking, the script of "Phone Booth" itself can only be considered above average, but its strength lies in its novelty and uniqueness.
In addition, director David Fincher and actor Nicolas Cage's control over the rhythm of the entire film is absolutely first-class.
Even from the perspective of the film's theme, "Phone Booth" can't be said to have anything too thought-provoking, but it is definitely a good film!
In "Phone Booth," the killer is played by Quentin Tarantino. Although this guy only appears for three minutes, he really has a built-in perverted gene.
The neurotic voice is very fitting to the film's theme.
"By the way, David, you've also read my script for 'Ghost,' how can we spend the least amount of money on the special effects and achieve satisfactory results?"
David Fincher used to work at Industrial Light \u0026 Magic, the special effects company under Lucas, so he has some say in this area.
"Ghost" is not like "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," we have to save money!
"If you want to increase the imagination between humans and ghosts to enrich the plot, it actually doesn't cost much money. You can add some special effects to cooperate."
Aaron Anderson had given himself a romance script to read a few days ago, a story of love between a human and a ghost!
"Aaron, are you going to start making a new film?"
"Yes, I've had the idea for a long time, but it's not easy to implement. This year, it should be possible."
Aaron had already sent the script to director Edward Zwick and was waiting for his reply.
As for the male lead, Kevin Costner, it seems he had just finished filming "Dances with Wolves."
He's currently promoting the action film "Revenge" directed by Tony Scott!
Once Edward Zwick is settled, Aaron will contact Kevin Costner as soon as possible.
The screening response for "Phone Booth" was pretty good, but 20th Century Fox didn't arrange many screenings.
In the evening, Aaron and Jack Welles met at a bar in West Hollywood. "This conventional publicity method doesn't seem to be very effective."
"Then, should we find more film critics to recommend it?"
"Forget it, reputable film critics are also expensive. It's not cheap to have them tout it in newspapers with high circulation either," Aaron took a sip of wine. Now is the era of newspapers and radio and television stations, and the cost of online marketing is not lower than in the internet age.
"By the way, when I went to 20th Century Fox yesterday, I saw producer John Hughes;"
"What's the situation with that movie he's developing, 'Home Alone'?"
John Hughes is a client of CAA, with director and producer contracts, and is best at developing children's and youth comedies.
"Oh, it's a Christmas comedy. Originally, they were going to collaborate with Warner Bros., but after John Hughes found Chris Columbus to direct, he increased the production budget;"
"Warner Bros. chose to withdraw, and then John Hughes turned to 20th Century Fox!"
For "Home Alone," Warner Bros. gave a maximum budget of no more than $13 million, and 20th Century Fox directly increased it to $18 million.
"That kid Macaulay Culkin seems very spirited," Aaron reminded.
Jack Welles certainly understood what his good friend meant and shook his head. "That little actor starred in Hughes' comedy last year;"
"Moreover, Macaulay Culkin's agent is his parents. There will be many agents vying for the male lead with an $18 million production budget."
Aaron was stunned for a moment and said awkwardly, "That's true!"
There is no mistake in every first release, one content, one in one look!
Aaron also discovered the "Home Alone" project unintentionally and inquired about it.
He thought he could get Jack Welles to have a big name on hand, but it seems it's not possible.
"Aaron, actually you know me, my eye for scripts is not good. At CAA, I'm only suitable for doing some artist assistant work;"
"In addition, I have already talked to Kevin Costner's assistant agent. Next, I will be Kevin Costner's assistant and driver for a while!"
Aaron raised an eyebrow. "Do you also want to take on the duties of a bodyguard?"
"A non-professional bodyguard, just like our previous work!"
Earlier, Aaron followed Paula Wagner as an assistant, also with a bit of protection, but after all, she was not a star, and Aaron mainly focused on assistant and driver duties.
"It feels like there's no future in this?"
"Then what to do? CAA's salary is good, is it possible to join the gang?"
Jack Welles and Aaron are both high school graduates, and now gang culture is prevalent in Los Angeles!
"Gangs, no future?" Aaron leaned on the sofa and stroked his chin. Jack Welles' father was a bounty hunter when he was young.
Now, Jack Welles himself is also quite familiar with guns, otherwise, Aaron wouldn't have such a good relationship with him?
"How about a security company, recruiting those retired special forces or something, protecting rich people," Aaron felt more and more that there was something to be done,
"Well, I will also be a rich man in the future, and I also need bodyguards to protect me!"
Jack Welles widened his eyes. "You still need someone to protect you?"
How powerful Aaron Anderson is, doesn't he know? Three or five burly men can't get close, he's strong, and his physical fitness is top-notch!
Aaron held up a finger. "No matter how good you are, a shot will knock you down."
"Uh, that's right, no wonder you're so obsessed with guns. When we have time in the future, we'll go hunting directly and let you feel the power of weapons!"
Shooting targets, you can't feel the charm of guns.
"Very good, when I have money in the future, I will fund you to open a security company, make it bigger and stronger, and take the road to internationalization..."
