Hollywood starts with a broker
#57 - My private life is messy
"Aaron, this is River Phoenix, about your age. You should be familiar with him; you used to be an agent at CAA!"
Indeed, the person Aaron just helped was River Phoenix, a Hollywood child star. A few years ago, a film directed by Rob Reiner, adapted from Stephen King's novel 'Stand by Me,' gave him some fame in literary circles.
"Of course, I know him," Aaron said, clinking glasses with the others. "This is Jack Wells, still an agent at CAA!"
"Sorry about earlier."
River Phoenix smiled apologetically at Aaron.
"No problem!" Aaron noticed that River Phoenix and Johnny Depp seemed to have a good relationship, two major drug addicts.
"By the way, the 'Phone Booth' you produced was fantastic. Cage's performance was simply amazing!"
River Phoenix is currently a small-time actor dabbling in literary films, with many works but none making a splash.
"Thank you."
Aaron looked at River Phoenix and couldn't help but remind him, "Your acting is good, but isn't this lifestyle a bit too crazy?"
Directly partying until you can't stand? Feels even more ruthless than Depp?
After all, as a teen idol, Johnny Depp maintains a good public image as an actor;
Of course, Johnny Depp, as a top Hollywood heartthrob, has a huge advantage in appearance!
River Phoenix took a sip of his drink, "Some roles require me to be like this to get into character."
Jack Wells reminded him, "River has appeared in quite a few art films."
"Don't worry, Aaron, this kind of life is normal for us," Johnny Depp said, taking a sip of whiskey.
Aaron was too lazy to worry and then looked at Johnny Depp, "When will your 'Edward Scissorhands' be released?"
"Twentieth Century Fox is planning for the Christmas season, it won't be that soon."
Johnny Depp had a movie he starred in, 'Cry-Baby,' released last month, but it didn't garner much attention.
'Edward Scissorhands' is his second starring role since entering the film industry from television, and he values it greatly.
After the four of them had a few more drinks, Aaron Anderson and Jack Wells left first.
"These actors, who also play rock and roll, can't live without three things: women, alcohol, and drugs;"
"Their private lives are a mess!"
Jack Wells chatted with Aaron while driving, "I have some stuff in the car, do you want to try some?"
Aaron glared at him, "Do you want to see me follow my father's example and drive off the Golden Gate Bridge?"
"Even now, there's no body!"
Jack Wells awkwardly touched his nose, "Really haven't found him?"
"How could you find him? It's the Pacific Ocean!"
Besides, Aaron has no feelings for the old Anderson, so forget it.
"Gamblers and drug addicts can't be trusted. Hollywood has no morals or laws to speak of, let alone these two types of people."
As Jennifer Connelly entered summer vacation and came to Southern California, she brought a script to ask for Aaron's opinion.
West Hollywood.
"'The Rocketeer'? Disney is making another comic adaptation, and it's a superhero one!"
Aaron sat on the sofa, casually flipping through the script Jennifer Connelly had brought.
"The story isn't like 'Dick Tracy.' This should be Disney trying to sell merchandise and toys."
Warner Bros.' success with 'Batman' led to a lot of merchandise, and everyone knows they made a fortune!
Jennifer Connelly sat on Aaron's lap, wrapped her arms around his neck, and reminded him:
"What do you think? 'The Rocketeer' has a preliminary budget of $25 million, which isn't low."
Aaron smiled, "With this budget, they can't afford any big stars for this kind of movie. However, although you're the female lead, you don't have that many scenes;"
"This is mainly an action movie, and your role is somewhat like a vase, purely commercial!"
However, Aaron doesn't seem to have any impression of this movie, probably because it flopped.
"Summer vacation is long, I think it's doable;"
"ICM talent agency plans to sign me, and this is what they prepared for me!"
Jennifer Connelly's contract with CAA has expired and wasn't renewed. After all, she's just a small role now, and CAA wouldn't pay attention to her.
"Alright, anyway, it's a commercial film, and a budget of $25 million isn't low. It should raise your profile a bit."
No mistake, one first one send one inside one contain one look one by one!
Aaron doesn't have any objections, after all, commercial film roles aren't easy to get, and the competition for vase roles is also very strong;
However, Jennifer Connelly's figure and appearance are more than enough, she has a lot of capital!
"Yeah, 'The Rocketeer' has been in preparation for two or three years, and now it's officially in production. Disney plans to shoot a trilogy, and we've all signed three-movie contracts;"
"Next, I'm going to try on costumes, rehearse, and wait for the crew to start filming!"
"A trilogy?" Aaron smiled.
If the first movie doesn't do well at the box office, the sequels will naturally be canceled.
"By the way, Giuseppe Tornatore's film 'Journey of the Innocents' will participate in the Cannes Film Festival;"
"Don't you need to help with promotion?"
Jennifer Connelly shook her head, "I don't have many scenes. 'Journey of the Innocents' will participate in the Toronto Film Festival in September, and I'll go then."
The North American distributor of 'Journey of the Innocents' is the art-house company Legacy Entertainment, and they don't pay much attention to it!
In the evening, at the Beverly Hills Wilshire Hotel, Aaron met Michael Kuhn, the head of PolyGram Filmed Entertainment.
'Phone Booth' earned nearly $20 million at the European box office, making PolyGram Filmed Entertainment very happy.
"Aaron, doesn't Dawnlight Pictures have some small projects in preparation? PolyGram can fully support you!"
"Full support?" Aaron smiled.
"Projects worth a few million dollars, mainly independent art films, are hard to find."
Dawnlight Pictures is mainly focused on making money right now, and awards aren't a priority.
Michael Kuhn also knows that good projects in the United States are basically controlled by a few major studios, and slightly better ones are also handled by second-tier distributors;
Foreign film companies entering Hollywood either act as funding providers or participate in some independent works.
If foreign film companies invest in high-budget commercial films and suffer losses, the consequences will be unbearable!
Michael Kuhn took a sip of his drink, "But there are good projects among independent films, and you know that better than anyone;"
"Although PolyGram's main business is records, I can independently decide on film projects with a production budget of up to $10 million."
Aaron's eyebrows twitched. $10 million?
