Homo sapiens

Chapter 212 Port Issues

The matter of Homo Sapien Company recruiting shipbuilders for the New Luzon Shipyard was not kept secret for long. It was soon known to the person in charge of Samsung Heavy Industries at the Mingzhou Shipyard.

Regarding this matter, although Samsung Heavy Industries is hostile to New Luzon Shipyard, the problem is that they have nothing to do now.

After all, it is Samsung Heavy Industries that wants to close the Myeongju Shipyard and lay off its employees.

We can’t let employees seek their own way out now, so Samsung Heavy Industries still needs to object, right?

If Samsung Heavy Industries really does this, it will have to continue to maintain the Myeongju Shipyard, which is obviously impossible.

Therefore, Samsung Heavy Industries can only choose to sit on the sidelines and cannot do other things at all.

the other side.

Malaysia has reorganized its internal shipping business this year and established a shipping group. In fact, it will integrate and reorganize Malaysia’s internal shipping resources, which are secretly controlled by Homo sapiens companies.

The newly formed Malaysia Shipping Group currently controls 8 LNG ships (deadweight tonnage of 670,000 tons), 7 oil tankers (deadweight tonnage of 830,000 tons), 32 container ships (deadweight tonnage of 2.32 million tons), and 145 bulk carriers. (deadweight tonnage: 1.22 million tons), and 86 other ships (deadweight tonnage: 410,000 tons).

As one of the top 10 LNG ship holders in the world, Malaysia has gone uncharacteristically this year and has no new shipbuilding demand for LNG ships. Instead, it has sold three of the LNG ships.

The reason why this happens.

The fundamental reason is that the Malaysian Shipping Group gave shipbuilding orders to New Luzon Shipbuilding Company, especially the orders for the eight newly added methane carriers, which were all taken by New Luzon Shipbuilding Company.

July 23, 2021.

Typhoon Fireworks, the sixth typhoon this year, traveled all the way north to Japan, avoiding Southeast Asia.

A transport ship departing from the waters east of the Malay Peninsula in Malaysia and carrying 80,000 tons of methane arrived at Yangcheng Port.

This methane carrier is the first methane carrier delivered by New Luzon Shipbuilding Company to Malaysian Shipping Group, and it is also the ship’s maiden voyage.

Zhao Xingmin, the manager of the Lingnan Branch of Hua Petroleum Company in charge of the natural gas unloading port, was currently conducting business negotiations with Zhu Ling, the business manager of the Malaysian Shipping Group.

He held the shipping schedule quotation in his hand and found that the recent shipping quotation of Malaysia Shipping Group was not bad.

The recent quote for a standard LNG ship (with a transport capacity of 100,000 tons) is US$65,000 per day. The average shipping time from Malaysian D to Yangcheng Port is about 5 days. The transportation cost of a standard LNG ship is US$325,000. knife.

The Malaysian Shipping Group’s methane carrier (80,000-ton transport capacity) is quoted at US$50,000 per day, which is slightly cheaper.

However, Zhao Xingmin knew the details of the other party.

"Manager Zhu, can the price be cheaper? How about 45,000 per day?"

When he offered this price, he actually knew that the transportation cost of methane carriers was lower than that of LNG ships. After all, there was no need to maintain ultra-low temperatures.

But Zhu Ling smiled and shook his head: "Manager Zhao is joking, 50,000 per day is already a friendly price. Other companies can't get this price, not to mention that you also have benefits."

The two sides talked for more than half an hour, but Zhuling still couldn't get enough of it.

Fortunately, Malaysia Shipping Group is more sincere about long-term contracts and offers a price of US$42,000 per day. However, the contract is for three years and requires operation for at least 120 days per year.

Zhao Xingmin has no objection to this. This time he approached Malaysian Shipping to cooperate. According to the instructions of the headquarters, he requested to lock in part of Malaysian Shipping’s shipping schedule to cope with the possible surge in freight rates in the future.

In fact, this is also a common method used by large energy companies to avoid risks. Once short-term rental encounters an emergency, shipping costs may increase several times. Only long-term contracts can ensure the stability of transportation costs.

Looking to cooperate with Malaysian shipping is not a whim of China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petroleum \u0026 Chemical Corporation, or China National Offshore Oil Corporation, but a forced choice after careful consideration.

Not only Malaysian Shipping, but also New Luzon Shipping has also signed many long-term contracts with the three giants.

After Zhao Xingmin signed a long-term transportation contract for three methane transport ships, he, Zhu Ling and others observed the Reef methane transport ship in the port.

Unlike conventional LNG ships, the deck of a methane carrier does not have a huge metal hemisphere structure, but a very straight container deck.

Similarly, the gas pipeline for unloading methane is different from the LNG ship and does not require low-temperature maintenance equipment or secondary gasification equipment.

The LNG natural gas storage tanks at the port are all low-temperature liquefied storage. The stored low-temperature liquefied natural gas needs to be transported to users. A safe heating and gasification equipment is installed in the middle to prevent the liquefied natural gas from vaporizing all at once and bursting the gas pipeline.

However, the methane transport ship exports gas, and special low-temperature liquefaction equipment must be used to liquefy the natural gas before it can be input into the gas storage tank at the port.

This is troublesome for LNG ports, but fortunately, China Petroleum Company has considered this situation before and added a low-temperature liquefaction equipment at the port.

Fortunately, the transportation quotations of Malaysian Shipping and New Luzon Shipping are relatively low. After the two are offset, the cost does not increase.

Who doesn’t like it without adding too much cost?

This is one of the reasons why China’s three energy giants are interested in Malaysian shipping and New Luzon shipping.

If it weren’t for New Luzon Shipbuilding’s orders that have been scheduled for 24 years, and if China has its own shipyards that manufacture LNG ships, the three energy giants would all want to order more than a dozen methane carriers to add to their own transport fleets. .

It's a pity that this behavior is obviously somewhat "incorrect".

In addition, Homo sapiens' large-scale gas storage tank technology has also attracted the attention of major energy giants. After all, the storage of liquefied natural gas is too dangerous, and maintenance costs are also a problem.

Similarly, shipping companies all over the world are actually very interested in the methane carriers of New Luzon Shipbuilding Company. However, its production capacity has been taken up by Malaysian Shipping and New Luzon itself, and other companies cannot arrange the production capacity at all. .

However, many shipping companies have already begun to think about whether to continue purchasing LNG ships.

After all, the dual-purpose characteristics of this methane carrier, which is called the "New Luzon Type" in the shipping industry, are simply too good for shipping companies.

In particular, areas rich in oil and gas resources are often areas with underdeveloped manufacturing industries. While exporting oil and gas resources, they also need to import large amounts of food, daily necessities, and electrical appliances.

This just makes the shipping schedule of the dual-purpose transport ship full, and there is no empty shipping schedule in the middle.

Why do shipping companies have a love-hate relationship with oil and gas carriers?

It’s not because every time it is transported, it has to be empty ship.

You must know that the unit transportation quotations of many container ships and dry bulk carriers are often less than half of those of oil and gas carriers. The reason is that cargo ships can transport full loads back and forth.

LNG ships have no way to transport anything other than natural gas, which results in half of the shipping schedule being empty.

Therefore, the "New Luzon type" transport ship will become the current star transport ship.

Zhao Xingmin looked at the container loading and unloading position on the deck of the Reef, turned his head and asked with a smile:

"Manager Zhu, has your company received the container waybill in Yangcheng?"

"I received it. It's a batch of containers transported to Siam. At that time, the company may pick up another batch of containers in Siam and go to Kuala Lumpur. Finally, it will go to the offshore oil fields in the Malay Peninsula to load a batch of methane. One trip will take about half a day. About a month.”

"It seems that your company's shipping services are very popular!" Zhao Xingmin felt a little envious.

Zhu Ling smiled and shook her head: "It's just hard-earned money."

The demand for shipping in East Asia, Southeast Asia, West Asia, and South Asia is actually much greater than that in North America.

If North America hadn't been de-industrializing over the years, leading to the continuous decline of the manufacturing industry, its own resources and population would actually not need to import anything at all.

The situation is different in Asia.

Many regions in Asia have various deficiencies to a greater or lesser extent.

For example, in East Asia, the manufacturing industry is very strong, but the energy and resource gap is also very large;

While West Asia is rich in energy, it has almost no manufacturing industry;

South Asia has a huge population and good agricultural resources, but its manufacturing industry is average and there is also a huge gap in resources and energy;

Among the four regions, Southeast Asia is the most comprehensive, with a population, agricultural resources, energy and mineral resources, and some low-end manufacturing industries.

If the shortcomings of the manufacturing industry can be supplemented, Southeast Asia can basically achieve internal circulation.

In the future global landscape, no matter which force it is, if it wants to fight against North America, it must control Southeast Asia.

Without the supplement of the large region of Southeast Asia, no force can stand up to North America alone.
