Homo sapiens

Chapter 215 Potential Tapping

After listening to Huang Weida's introduction.

Several engineers finally knew the specific plan.

In fact, ship technology after entering the 21st century has improved a lot compared to the previous century, at least in terms of energy conservation and emission reduction.

The main reason is that energy conservation and emission reduction can reduce transportation costs. Shipping companies naturally prefer transport ships with high energy efficiency, which also encourages shipping companies to invest heavily in technological improvements.

"I have discussed some of the current cutting-edge technologies with several colleagues. There are four suitable technologies, namely..."

Huang Weida took out his tablet and called up some information on the four technical solutions.

The four solutions are: low-speed large propeller, ultra-light hull, high-efficiency combined gas turbine unit, and exhaust gas and waste heat recovery system.

"The ultra-light hull has now been applied to this ship." Huang Weida pointed to the module shell on one side.

Everyone is very aware of this technology.

Usually a 6,500TEU container ship has a net load of 80,000 tons, an empty hull displacement of 24,000 tons, and a full load displacement of 120,000 to 130,000 tons.

The empty ship displacement refers to the hull, equipment, lubricating oil, and fresh water. The hull is about 19,000 tons.

After switching to silicon-aluminum steel, the weight of a hull of the same specifications will be reduced to about 12,000 tons, a full reduction of 7,000 tons in hull weight.

The reason for this change.

The main reason is that the density of materials is different. The density coefficient of ordinary ship steel is about 7.5, while the density coefficient of silicon-aluminum steel is only about 4.8.

This part of the reduced hull dead weight can be converted into container load capacity, increasing the load capacity of 6,500 standard containers to the upper limit of 87,000 tons.

This is equivalent to saving nearly 9% of transportation costs in disguise.

Huang Weida continued: "Low-speed large propellers are also one of the common methods for energy-saving renovation of many old ships. However, there are technical barriers to the production technology of large propellers."

Hearing the technical threshold for large propellers, Ino immediately laughed: "We don't need to worry about this."

"Ha ha……"

"really."

Others didn't worry about this either.

Spare parts suppliers of other shipbuilding companies may have certain technical difficulties in producing qualified large-scale propellers.

But the parts supplier of New Luzon Shipbuilding Company is Sea Snail New Materials. Not to mention large propellers, even super large propellers can be produced with excellent performance and service life.

"According to my supercomputer simulation calculation results, using the arrangement of forward and reverse low-speed large propellers can reduce energy consumption by about 8%."

Ino touched his chin and suddenly thought of a technology that has become more popular in recent years: "Aren't Daewoo Shipbuilding and Deutschland experimenting with a technology called rotor sails? It seems that it can save about 8% of energy."

"This technology does exist, but rotor sails are not suitable for container ships and their scope of application is relatively narrow." Huang Weida spread his hands helplessly.

Everyone understands it as soon as they think about it.

Container ships need to carry containers and do not have enough deck space to install rotor sails, which take up more space.

Ore ships, cement carriers, grain carriers, passenger ships, oil tankers, etc. can be equipped with rotor sails.

This technology is not difficult for the current New Luzon Shipyard, and it can even be done better. After all, with the blessing of various new materials, it is difficult to think well.

"As for the gas turbine and exhaust heat recovery system, this is actually a complete system. According to the current technology, it can probably reduce energy consumption by about 10%."

Ino nodded: "I have read the internal papers on this system, and it seems that the car company has already applied it."

"That's right, our set of technology is borrowed from Qingye Automobile Company, and at the same time, we add our improvement plan." Huang Weida explained with a smile.

"Is it a combined unit plan?" Ino obviously saw the key point.

Huang Weida's smile became even brighter: "Engineer Yino has a bright eye."

His plan is not complicated. It takes advantage of the relatively small size of the gas turbine and does not require imported equipment to replace the previous heavy-duty gas turbine with four sets of relatively small gas turbines.

The purpose of this is to avoid the pain points of low speed and low efficiency of gas turbines.

The economic speed of cargo ships is around 11 to 13 knots. Although many cargo ships can reach the ultimate speed of more than 20 knots, in fact no shipping company will choose high speed.

Because high speed means that the energy consumption will be increased several times, so the gain outweighs the loss.

Instead, four medium-sized gas turbines were used, two operating at full load daily and two as backup.

When you need to slow down, you can also turn off one of them and slowly reduce the power of the other one.

When encountering equipment failure or acceleration, the backup gas turbine can be started.

In addition, the ship can also be equipped with a flywheel energy storage device to quickly start the gas turbine or emergency braking.

There is no need to introduce too much about the exhaust gas and waste heat recovery system. After all, Qingye Automobile has already been applied in this area.

Regarding the exhaust gas and waste heat recovery system, Huang Weida is just a ship designer. He only needs to apply and provide suggestions. The work of improving this system is left to the researchers and engineers of Luzon Electric Company.

The only shortcoming of the current system is that the energy recovery efficiency of waste heat is too low, only less than 38%.

After research, Luzon Electric believes that the key to improving conversion efficiency and energy recovery efficiency lies in the catalyst and catalytic system.

As long as the efficiency of converting carbon dioxide and water vapor into methane can be improved, the waste heat and energy recovery efficiency will increase.

Huang Weida actually knew very well that it was not that he was great, but that the company's technical reserves were too strong.

When various technologies are combined, they often have complementary effects and then further expand their advantages.

For example, the compression of shipbuilding costs has increased the operational space for ship design, and has a higher tolerance limit for the cost expenditures in the application of new technologies.

Another example is the localization of gas turbine technology, which has brought about domestically produced gas turbines with extremely high cost performance.

If only marine gas turbines can only be imported at high prices from abroad as before, then Huang Weida would not dare to launch four medium-sized gas turbines.

Technological innovations in various production links and reductions in production costs will have an impact on the final product.

The large-scale cost effects brought about by the systematic technological innovation of Homo sapiens Company are simply earth-shaking changes for the entire shipbuilding industry.

Now New Luzon Shipbuilding Company is still digesting technology, integrating and expanding production capacity, and there are too many orders from internal brother companies, so it has not had a huge impact on the global shipbuilding industry.

But this kind of dormancy cannot be hidden for long.

Sooner or later, New Luzon Shipbuilding Company will show its fangs and compete with the three major shipbuilding countries in East Asia's monster house.

This is unavoidable. Many industries around the world are now moving towards a high degree of monopoly, and the winners are definitely in the minority.

The shipbuilding industry is just a microcosm of this era.

The industrial fight in Asia is becoming more and more intense, and the situation in the Americas is becoming increasingly grim.

The main reason is that ABCD, which suffered continuous heavy losses last year, has a huge gap in soybean planting this year.

However, the demand for soybeans and corn in the Asian market for food and agricultural products has not significantly increased, and has even declined.
