Taunggyi City is not only the capital of the Southern Shan State Autonomous Region, but also the capital city of the entire Shan Autonomous State, referred to as Shan State.

Taunggyi is located on the Shan Plateau in southeastern Myanmar. It is the fourth largest city in Myanmar, with an urban population of 200,000. It is the only place to pass from central Myanmar to Shan State, and is also the gateway to Shan State. The gateway city of the state.

Taking the two cities of Mandalay and Naypyitaw as the dividing line, to the east is the Shan State Plateau with an altitude of more than 1,400 meters.

Taunggyi has not experienced war since the Tatmadaw took control here, even when the Tatmadaw Union Army was at its strongest.

But now, the war has spread across the Shan plateau and is about to burn to Taunggyi.

The urban area of Taunggyi is located in the valley of a large mountain. It was originally just a small village in history. Over the course of hundreds of years of development, it gradually became the most populous city on the Shan State Plateau and continued to expand outwards.

Now with the army’s offensive, the Eastern Military District of Myanmar has deployed the 88th Motorized Infantry Division and the 3rd Armored Division in Hobang County, where Taunggyi and Meng Bang are connected, as well as in the relatively flat plain areas in the south.

At the same time, the Third Artillery Division and several other independent brigades and independent battalions were deployed in the eastern area of Taunggyi to fully block the corps’ attack.

And the front line of 367 Mengbang Mountains.

It’s not that the Burmese army doesn’t want to send more troops, but the terrain in the Meng Bang Mountains is complex. The Pa-O are the second largest ethnic group in Shan State. They mainly live in the Inle Lake area of Southern Shan State. Although they are also distributed in other areas, 60% of the population in Taunggyi City is Pa-O.

After Myanmar became independent from the British colony, the Pa-O also had their own armed forces. They once fought with the Myanmar National Defense Force in Taunggyi, and even occupied Taunggyi for a time.

But later, as the Myanmar National Defense Force became stronger, the Pa-O armed forces withdrew from Taunggyi City and disappeared into history.

It was not until recent years that the Bo’u ethnic armed forces became active again.

However, the Myanmar military government has also been wooing the Pa-O ethnic group. The Eastern Military Region has specially recruited soldiers from the Pa-O ethnic group to form a militia force. Although it only has a size of more than 2,000 people, it is at least a combat-effective militia.
