#154 - 152. The Conversation That Never Happened
Chapter 153 152. An Unspoken Dialogue
Grieg and Lardy climbed over the city wall.
When they raised their heads to look at the scene in front of them, they couldn't help but take a few steps back.
Countless buildings of unfamiliar shapes and materials stood inside the city wall, and artificially constructed streets flowed through this small to medium-sized town. There were various public facilities along the road that they had never seen before, but what moved and shocked them was the corpses lying on the streets.
Corpses everywhere.
They cautiously walked around the town on the city wall for a few minutes, but every street they could see was covered with various corpses. According to the scale they were seeing now, it was conservatively estimated that there were five to six figures of dead people.
Moreover, the condition of these corpses was also creepy. Nearly half of the corpses had rotted into bones, but the other half remained in fairly good condition, as if they had only died recently.
"Did you see that?" Grieg couldn't hide the trembling in his voice. "To be honest, I think we can retreat for now and explore this place slowly in the future. That monster has already been solved by us."
"Observe the dead up close." Ma En's cold words made these two vicious ability users feel heavy.
Grieg made metal weapons hover around him, ready to deal with possible dangers at any time.
They climbed down the city wall and cautiously moved to a position about ten meters in front of a fresh corpse, and then Grieg manipulated the suspended metal weapon to touch the corpse's body.
A strange look appeared on his face.
Grieg didn't continue with the next test, but walked directly to the front of the corpse, lowered his head and looked at the fatal wound on the dead man's chest - a cylindrical penetrating wound.
Grieg looked at the cross-section of the wound.
Under the skin was not flesh and blood, but a rather complex mechanical structure.
Grieg opened his palm and stretched it towards the dead man, manipulating the entire corpse to float towards him in a fairly balanced posture. As soon as the skin touched, he immediately realized the problem.
What was on him was not skin at all.
Grieg retracted his palm.
The corpse was instantly torn apart by the internal metal structure, and the skin-like things were torn into countless pieces and scattered in the air, with metal or non-metal parts scattered all over the ground.
Grieg tried hard to search through the wreckage, but found no trace of any flesh and blood ever existing, and the dead man's head did not leave enough space to fit a head.
"They are robots." Grieg replied, "What do we do now?"
"Collect a complete corpse, and then look for items that look valuable and have abnormal characteristics, record noteworthy information. If you can make enough contributions, you will have the opportunity to no longer perform such potentially dangerous tasks."
"Yes, sir." He replied obediently.
In the following time, Grieg and Lardy searched the town for what Ma En required. They broke into dozens of houses, rummaged through them, and transferred the found items into the containment room according to the procedure.
But the things they found were the same as the corpses of the black cat and the humanoid machine, none of them had abnormal characteristics.
As the search mission progressed, they got closer and closer to the interior of the town. With the previous work being meaningless, Grieg no longer broke into every house he saw, but only entered places that looked significantly different from other buildings.
During their advance, they also encountered other things - more than a dozen corpses of large beasts, with mechanical limbs similar to those of the black cat around their bodies, but the modified parts and bodies of these beasts were several times larger than the black cat. The bone length of one of the beasts had exceeded fifteen meters.
No matter how you looked at it, they should be much stronger than the III-level monster they had just encountered, but they were all lifeless. Moreover, during the exploration process, Grieg and the others gradually realized a fact.
These dead people probably died almost at the same time, and they may not have had time to react to the occurrence of the attack, and they did not leave any traces of resistance. Combining the possibility that those mechanical beasts may have IV-level strength entities...
It was a V-level ability user who slaughtered this town.
After checking the hardness of the dead man's bones and whether they had any abnormalities, Grieg was basically certain that this terrible disaster should have occurred within the past few years.
What did it?
Harboring this uneasy thought, Grieg and Lardy stepped into a building that looked like a church. Although this place looked a little different from other buildings from the outside, it had nothing in common with the churches on the ground.
What made them think so were the statues and decorations inside. Several statues of humanoid and mechanical creations stood in the center of the church, and the murals on the walls depicted various strange creatures and some things they couldn't understand.
But when Ma En, who was sitting behind the desk, saw the picture depicting the fight between "giants," he noticed that some of them were the natural gods currently trapped in the Southern Federation, and a few gods opposite them, as well as some different images that might be Titans.
Ma En carefully observed the murals. On the opposite side of the gods, there were a total of sixteen different images, most of which should be some generation of Titans, and some may be ordinary warriors or something else.
As Grieg and Lardy advanced towards the interior of the church, the content on the murals also changed. It began to depict a new war, but this battle was against the enemies of the gods in the previous mural. Five of the sixteen images appeared in the new war.
The little people with silver and gold pigments were one side of this war, and they were the main army members against the gods in the previous painting.
In the end, it seemed that they had won.
Two pictures depicted this scene. There were some contents around the silver little people that Ma En couldn't understand, and the golden little people had a clear image representing breaking free from the shackles, while the other Titans and gods had depictions of defeat.
In the last part, the murals seemed to tell the story of the interactions between these two colors of little people. There were battles and stories with religious colors.
In the end, it seemed that they had united and regarded the Titans who had fought against them as some kind of belief - those statues were their images.
Grieg and Lardy didn't notice the colorful murals on the walls, but they also saw something worth noting.
In the last part that should have been a mural, there seemed to be traces of smearing. Someone had smoothed out the outermost part of the wall in a fairly flat manner, and forcibly carved many symbols composed of line segments on it.
Above these symbols, it was written in Federal language:
"To those who come later, I don't know what the symbols I carved mean. I just accepted the control of my body and subconsciousness, and it was they who brought me here.
"Follow it, this is the road to victory."
Ma En stared intently at the strange symbols composed of straight line segments.
They were poorly written Chinese characters, with no curves between the strokes, as if they were written by a clumsy imitator.
"When I raise my finger, I don't know where it will draw, but I can try to move my index finger in every direction at the same time in an instant, and then the blurred future will change in front of me, and then I will draw these symbols that I can't understand in the 'good' direction.
"I don't know what I wrote, and I don't understand the meaning of these words. This is not a dialogue. I did not participate in it. Only you can see this message, and you must remember this.
"If you have some understanding of the basic composition of our world, you should understand that we cannot predict the future by observing the direction of each particle, so what I see is just a hazy probability. Writing these words will not make the future destined, but will make it more likely to conform to my expectations.
"You can simply understand that my next prediction will not necessarily be successfully realized. I have no way to completely kill the future. Don't become slack because of the words you see. Our opponents are dangerous enemies.
"The madmen failed to destroy the tenacious alliance. They will make a deal with the devil, using your freedom and ideals as a reward, and accept their evil request. Don't immediately let the secret alliance in the dark replace the alliance. Patiently wait for the right opportunity.
"The snake has crawled into your bed. She is colluding with the madmen to try to kill you, but the fate of the snake trying to swallow the elephant is already well known. The god who chases secrets is also destined to die from his own greed.
"She is watching you with greed, and vicious thoughts are lingering in her mind,
"Go, go explore that sinister tower, tear open her chest with the sword of the forerunner, cross the passage across mountains and rivers, lead the monster into a trap called oblivion, go dance with the madmen, and give her a dagger in the shadows to pierce her heart.
"The gods are eventually forgotten, this is our era.
"To my future ally, Director of the Abnormal Control Bureau.
"Shen Xiao."
