I created the Bureau of Anomaly Control
#544 - 535 Lies
At the top of the Tower of Slumber, Zasna was surrounded by countless Titans. These fully armed Titan guards maintained a delicate distance from her, as if, while ordered to watch her, their inner anxieties and fears made them unconsciously keep the farthest and safest distance from her, as if she were the dangerous beast.
Zasna didn't do anything to provoke them. She and these Titans remained quietly, waiting for Kalette and Mann to bring back the final result. Before that, they dared not act rashly.
Fortunately, this awkward atmosphere didn't last long, because in just over ten minutes, they saw two shadows appearing in the distant sky. As they appeared, all the Titans raised their heads to look over.
Unlike when they left, there was a clear difference in the size of the two returning figures. When they got closer, the Titans saw the normal-sized figure in front, and they immediately realized...
That wasn't Kalette.
As the two figures approached, they saw the thing floating behind Mann, and they saw the leader who had chased after Mann, that head was Kalette.
Deathly silence quickly spread among the Titan guards. They stared in disbelief, the Titan most trusted by the Queen of the Ninth City was now just a head, carried back here like a toy by a human using telekinesis, which made them feel both angry and desperate.
Only Zasna looked with surprise at Mann, who was flying over with Kalette's head. Her joy came not only from Mann defeating Kalette, but more importantly, as he had asked at the time...
He didn't kill Kalette.
Mann gently landed on the top of the tower, casually placed Kalette's head on the ground, then looked up at the other Titan guards, and said calmly as if he didn't take them seriously at all:
"Does anyone else have any objections?"
Although the human in front of them was theoretically no match for so many Titans, they still lowered their heads when Mann's gaze swept over them, like a flock of sheep trembling before a lion.
Sensing the Titans' fear, Zasna also took the opportunity to stand up:
"Now it's time for me to return to my body."
Kalette's head, lying on the ground, opened its mouth and shouted:
"Don't trust her, all of you..."
"Shut up!" Zasna said coldly, "Kalette."
Kalette's expression froze, then he closed his eyes and mouth as if resigned to his fate, and the other Titans consciously made way, no longer trying to stop them.
Seeing this, Zasna immediately started walking towards the entrance, and Mann followed behind her, watching Zasna push the door open and walk in, and then close the door again, blocking all the Titans outside.
Behind the door was a short staircase. Zasna and Mann walked around a few times and saw a rather spacious hall, filled with dense mechanical equipment, and a tightly closed door.
Zasna stepped forward and began to operate the machinery.
"So..." Mann broke the silence, "Are you Zasna now, or the Ninth Queen?"
Zasna turned her head and smiled at him, then switched back to her original voice and said:
"Did I look particularly like I had loaded the Ninth Queen's consciousness just now?"
Mann said curiously:
"So you were just deceiving him?"
Zasna inserted her right hand into the mechanical device in front of her:
"Not entirely. You remember, Mann, I said that my mother noticed Kalette's strangeness a long time ago, so she never really completely trusted Kalette..."
As she spoke, the sound of machinery operating came from inside the tower beneath their feet, and at the same time, the tightly closed metal door began to slowly operate, and opened to both sides in just a few seconds.
"In the beginning, he was just a smokescreen."
This sentence came from inside the door.
A beautiful woman who looked far more gentle than her 'daughter' was standing behind the open door, gently shaking her arm, as if familiarizing herself with this new body.
"Sorry, I'm only telling the truth now," the Ninth Queen said with a gentle smile. "I was indeed acting before, but on the contrary, there is no Zasna at all. My consciousness has never entered a slumber.
"This is a very dangerous thing for me. Enemies who know about this might take the opportunity to destroy my relatively fragile body. Although the Ninth Queen will not die, 'I' will disappear.
"Just like the gods fear slumber, I don't want the new Ninth Queen to replace me."
Mann revealed a look of understanding:
"You did deceive them. You have been lying all these years."
The Ninth Queen nodded slightly:
"In my opinion, this is a necessary risk. When Kalette became disloyal, I no longer had any Titans I could truly trust. Even if it might cause my consciousness to dissipate, I had to stay awake to deal with possible unexpected situations, and now it seems my decision was correct.
"And the worst case scenario is just that I die, but the Ninth Queen will not fall, so as long as you don't care too much about your own life and death, it's not really a real adventure."
Mann nodded slightly and said:
"So you didn't plan to answer my question before completing the consciousness transfer..."
The Ninth Queen walked up to Mann and said apologetically:
"Sorry, although I already believe you, as one of the Thirteen Queens who has lived for so many years, I also know very well that I shouldn't relax at any time. A few of the dead me didn't pay enough attention to this.
"And there's one more thing I'm embarrassed about. Actually, I had a way to stop Kalette at any time, but I wanted to observe you for a while longer, so I was waiting for you to be completely defeated before speaking up, but I didn't expect that you wouldn't need any help from me in the end.
"I'm sorry, I'm still a little too worried about the methods of those gods."
Her expression looked very sincere, and Mann immediately raised his hand:
"It's nothing. You're doing this for the sake of your own compatriots."
Mann, as the role he was currently playing, had no reason to be unhappy, and if the real Mann were in the position of the Ninth Queen, he would only do far more than she did.
If he were the Ninth Queen, he might not even explain that he was Zasna, but in fact, there was nothing wrong with what the Ninth Queen did.
Because when she spoke in the Ninth Queen's voice, Mann had already noticed some strange things.
