#661 - 650 The Rise of Homo Sapiens

“Back then, some were incredibly powerful with near-eternal life, some subspecies possessed the ultimate physical form, some were entirely composed of individuals with extraordinary abilities, and some humans had terrifying linguistic talents, capable of easily grasping the essence of the world and all its relationships. And we possessed all of their strengths.

“So, it was only natural that we conquered you and other humans, establishing the first perfect human dynasty. And after securing our rule, we immediately realized that we had to consolidate its existence.

“Because our power, which surpassed that of all other humans, was built on the bones of other races. We had to constantly consume your flesh and blood to maintain our strength, but we couldn't exterminate you.

“Therefore, our ancestors, with the wisdom you provided, quickly found the right solution: enslaving all other human subspecies, treating you as slaves and food.

“Thus, the terrifying prehistoric dynasty was born. More than a dozen human subspecies were forced to breed like livestock. The most talented humans were sent to the supreme king's table as soon as they reached adulthood, slightly less talented ones were supplied to the upper echelons of society, and the rest flowed into the common market.

“Furthermore, other subspecies were used as slaves and soldiers upon reaching adulthood. With the strongest human race, we quickly conquered the world, and the slaves' experiences were horrific. Indulgence, torture—no animal lived in worse conditions than our slaves.

“Honestly, even the most vile humans in the Federation are nothing compared to us. Just hearing about what they did to you makes me feel disgusted.

“It wasn't just evil; it was 'intelligent' evil.

“At this point, you might think it was an extremely barbaric and bloody dynasty, because we're using the term 'prehistoric' to describe it, which fits your impression.

“But in reality, this barbarism only existed on a spiritual level. Thanks to your flesh and blood, we quickly created an extremely prosperous civilization. Moreover, excessive consumption of certain types of flesh led some senior members of our civilization to develop too much conscience.

“But this voice was quickly suppressed, because in addition to some subspecies gaining too much conscience, we also inherited the evil nature of some other subspecies. And most importantly, we realized the prerequisite for maintaining our rule.

“Because our power was entirely based on the bloody slaughter of you. If we slowed down the killing and enslavement even slightly, we would quickly weaken to the point where we couldn't maintain our dominance.

“So, we only had two choices.

“Either use your flesh and blood in the most brutal way, or be torn to pieces by you.

“However, all the wise men believed this would never happen, and even made many plans to prevent your rebellion, such as planting seeds of hatred among you slaves, ensuring that you could never unite, and eating all humans who posed a threat.

“And so, we blindly indulged in the worship of our own power, eagerly using your flesh and blood to constantly repair our palaces that reached into the clouds...

“Completely unaware that this barbaric and evil madness would only invite an even more terrible nightmare.”

Roman paused here, reaching for a drink of water, seemingly still shaken by the "imminent" destruction in his heart, unable to easily express it in words.

Martin asked, puzzled:

“What more terrible nightmare?”

Roman raised a finger and pointed at him:

“You.”

At this moment, Roman's eyes held a complex and inexplicable emotion.

Martin looked at him and said:

“You mean our ancestors?”

Roman smiled, as if to say there was no difference between the two:

“Yes, as we predicted, rebellion would eventually erupt. There would always be sufficiently intelligent subspecies slaves who would survive to adulthood and have the opportunity to collude and plot against us.

“Thanks to our clever strategies, all the races hated each other. Your hatred for each other far outweighed your hatred for us. Even when our dynasty was overthrown, this hatred persisted.

“But among the Homo sapiens, an extremely talented human accomplished the impossible.

“He found young geniuses from more than a dozen other races. Most of these geniuses realized that overthrowing us was more important than hatred, and those who didn't were brutally murdered by him.

“But even so, he couldn't eliminate the animosity between the various races that had lasted for countless years, because this hatred was no longer just our strategy, but a deep-seated blood feud between every individual.

“So, he proposed an idea: to create an abnormal mechanism that could unite all human subspecies without eliminating hatred, and this mechanism was almost impossible to destroy.

“But even if they could put aside their hatred, they couldn't resist temptation, such as love, lust, and greed. We used these basic desires to gradually alienate them, destroying your ancestors' fragile alliance.

“Soon your rebellion weakened. Many of the subspecies geniuses were either murdered or betrayed you for other reasons. Only a handful of the most determined geniuses were still persevering.

“But even so, they could no longer see hope. The original abnormal entity was almost perfectly created, but they couldn't complete the final step no matter what.

“So your ancestor came up with an idea: to temporarily transform it into a special weapon.

“I don't know if this was in his plan. Maybe he had already foreseen the collapse of the alliance. The weapon's transformation was so smooth that it's hard to imagine it was done without premeditation.

“We believe your ancestor didn't tell the other human geniuses the truth when he accomplished it.

“You deceived them, and perhaps that's why you also deceived us. We quickly slaughtered all the rebels and foolishly returned to our original state of rule, even enslaving you in a more brutal way to punish your transgression.

“And that was the end of it. I don't know how many years passed, and I don't know what happened in between.

“Suddenly, almost all the human subspecies went extinct, and our prosperous dynasty was like a crystal glass pushed off the table by a child, instantly shattering into fragments that could never be restored.

“Because, Homo sapiens rose.”
