Chapter 19: Laboratory

At dusk, the setting sun turned the winding peaks into a warm golden color.

On a beautiful peak, a figure leaped through the lush jungle and finally landed in front of a dark cave.

The figure was dressed in a simple white robe, and his slender figure blended with the evening light. Just by standing there, he exuded an elegant and graceful aura.

This figure was none other than Lin Chen.

He looked around and then walked straight into the cave, quickly disappearing into the darkness.

As the sun slowly set, the evening sky transformed from yellow to orange, red, blue, and finally into a deep and beautiful blue.

At this moment, a figure suddenly appeared in front of the cave. This person looked exactly like Lin Chen, both in appearance and figure.

"It seems that no one is following." The figure carefully observed the surroundings and then walked straight into the cave.

As the crisp footsteps gradually faded away, the entrance of the cave returned to tranquility. Time passed slowly until the moon climbed up the hill.

The evening breeze rustled through the endless jungle, causing the shadows of the trees to sway. At this moment, a figure hid in the jungle, silently observing the entrance of the cave.

"It seems that there really is no one following." Lin Chen let out a sigh of relief.

The images that went in earlier were all illusions created by him.

Although with the means of the Qi Refining Stage, it was possible to distinguish the illusions when viewed up close, it was easy to misjudge from a distance.

In addition, Lin Chen used sound illusions to increase the authenticity. If there were real trackers, it would be enough to deceive them.

In movies and TV shows from his previous life, Lin Chen always saw the protagonist go in first, followed by the enemy. Combined with his recent trip to the market, Lin Chen felt that it was better to be cautious.

Moreover, it was not without reason for him to be so cautious. The laboratory inside the cave was very important to him.

Inside, there were not only his research results and data from the past ten years, but also precious experimental materials.

If they were lost or damaged, it would greatly affect Lin Chen's plan to reach the Foundation Building Stage and prepare for the Gold Core Stage.

This matter was related to his path, and he had to be cautious.

"Although I understand the principle of 'a wise rabbit has three burrows,' the construction of the laboratory is not a simple matter. Equipment, safety measures, and geographical location all need to be considered. With the productivity of the Qi Refining Stage, it is impossible to build more..." Lin Chen sighed in his heart.

Then, his whole body suddenly exerted force. Using the shadows of the trees, he moved like a cunning rabbit, landing silently. Dressed in black, he quietly entered the cave, taking advantage of the night.

The cave was pitch black, even more eerie and terrifying than the outside. It was completely silent, but Lin Chen seemed unaffected, stepping forward and leaving faint footprints on the ground.

After turning a few corners in the cave, Lin Chen finally arrived at a wall of rocks.

Obviously, there was no way forward.

Under normal circumstances, Lin Chen would touch the rocks or use formations to open up a new path.

But he didn't do that. Instead, he closed his eyes and carefully sensed.

"No one has followed..." In the darkness, Lin Chen murmured to himself.

The moment he entered the cave, he set up a spiritual thread at the entrance. Once someone entered, he would sense it.

"In that case..." Lin Chen glanced at the wall in front of him, but instead of approaching it, he gently retreated, matching his footsteps with the ones he left behind.

He deliberately left this trail of footprints. If someone followed Lin Chen into the cave and followed this trail, they would fall directly into the trap he set.

Behind the wall at the end of the footprints, there was indeed a passage, but it was filled with numerous flame talismans. The mountain below the passage was hollowed out by Lin Chen and filled with a large number of venomous snakes. Once someone entered, the talismans would explode, and the intruder would either die or fall into a pit of snakes.

Misdirection and traps, Lin Chen didn't think there was anything wrong with these actions. In his opinion, no matter what he did to protect the laboratory, it wouldn't be excessive.

If he had enough resources, Lin Chen would definitely arrange talismans, formations, and curses. He would be as sinister as possible and make the intruders experience true terror.

Lin Chen continued to backtrack along the footprints, finally arriving at the first turn in the entrance. He pressed a stone on the nearby wall, and soon, an entrance appeared before his eyes. Lin Chen directly flashed into it.

"Ah, if only I had a Ling Mountain for each disciple like the Elder at the Foundation Building Stage, things wouldn't be so troublesome," Lin Chen sighed softly after closing the stone wall. He pressed a spot on the nearby wall, and immediately, a row of lights lit up one by one.

In front of him was a corridor, with several rooms on either side and a staircase leading downwards at the end.

"Tap, tap, tap!"

Accompanied by crisp footsteps, Lin Chen entered the first room on the right. It was a study illuminated by night pearls, with three ten-meter-long bookshelves spanning the entire space.

On the three bookshelves were written the words "Spiritual Energy," "Cultivation," and "Soul."

Lin Chen walked between the bookshelves, tilting his head slightly and carefully selecting the documents on top.

These were research topics determined by Lin Chen based on the laws of spiritual energy and his chosen direction.

The documents on the shelves were recent and closely related to his current cultivation.

Topics included "Optimizing the Spirit Gathering Array," "The Impact of Artificial Spiritless Areas Caused by the Threshold of Spiritual Energy Extraction on Cultivation," "Actual Effects of Pills in Cultivation," and "Research on the 3.0 Version of Soul Nurturing Incense," among others.

In the middle were topics that required long-term research and verification.

Topics such as "The Relationship Between Spiritual Roots, Techniques, and Physique," "Experimenting with the Replacement of Spirit Medicine with Spiritual Energy to Create Non-Toxic Qi Pills," "Measurement of Spiritual Energy and Attempts at Level Transitions," "Research and Proof of Whether the Soul is the Carrier of Memory or an Aggregation of Spiritual Energy," and "Research on and Proof of the Third Law of Spiritual Energy"...

As for the dusty ones at the bottom, they had ideas and directions but were almost impossible to research.

Topics such as "Can Differential Manifolds be Applied to Array Arrangement?" and "Can the Flow of Spiritual Energy in the Human Meridians be Established as a Correct Mathematical Model?" or "Does Spiritual Energy Exhibit Quantum Phenomena?" and so on.

Lin Chen raised his hand and took down three documents: "Research on the 3.0 Version of Soul Nurturing Incense," "The Relationship Between Spiritual Energy Levels and Different Realms," and "Differences Between Different Realms."

These documents were all recorded on paper. The reason why they couldn't be written on jade slips was simple: there weren't enough spirit stones.

A regular jade slip required one spirit stone and could store information for a maximum of one year, with a limit on the number of readings.

In addition, with so much research material, using jade slips would generally not be worth it, so Lin Chen often used paper for recording.

Lin Chen took down the documents, walked out of the room, and walked straight ahead.

At the end of the corridor was a wall. Lin Chen walked over and pressed a certain spot, and suddenly, accompanied by the sound of a switch being activated, a dim passage appeared before his eyes.

But strangely, Lin Chen didn't move forward. Instead, he turned around and walked back into the original room.

Opening the door, at the end of the room that was originally responsible for collecting information, there was now a staircase leading downwards.

Obviously, the passage at the end of the corridor was a trap, and only the one in this room was the real passage leading downwards.

For Lin Chen, the documents and information in the room were all backed up, so even if they were damaged, it didn't matter. But the experimental items and apparatus underground were different; those were the things he had spent a great price to obtain.

Tap, tap, tap!

Lin Chen descended the stairs, and the crisp sound of footsteps echoed within.

Under his feet was a cement floor made with magic, and on the walls on both sides of the road were embedded night pearls, illuminating the place brightly.

After walking for who knows how long, suddenly, the footsteps came to a halt. Lin Chen stopped and looked ahead.

Under the bright light, as far as the eye could see, suspended bodies appeared before Lin Chen.

No!

To be precise, they weren't suspended; they were floating in transparent glass jars.

And there was not just one glass jar; there were countless of them, densely packed.

They contained numerous strange objects, including the remains of Demonic Beasts, medicinal herbs turned into specimens, and even the bodies of cultivators.

Arranged in a unique manner, they filled every corner of the room neatly.

If seen by someone from a past life, they would probably think of a mad scientist's experiment. If seen by cultivators, they would consider it a place for cultivating demonic techniques.

And this was Lin Chen's cultivation laboratory!
