I Have a Research Support System
Chapter 129 Prospect
"Finally voted out. It should not be a big problem for this article to vote AM, and the work is relatively solid."
Teacher Wei paced in the office, talking to himself:
"Before, I was always afraid of being published by other research groups, but now our work has finally been submitted, and it can be regarded as a stone falling to the ground."
Xu Qiu took it for granted. During this period of time, he worked very hard to do experiments, which was largely the reason.
In most cases, doing scientific research is like fighting against the sky.
And in the case of such a small-probability collision experiment, not only do you have to fight against the sky, but you also have to fight against people.
Really double the fun.
After the article has completed the delivery operation, you can breathe a little sigh of relief.
For example, research group A submitted a paper reporting that they discovered the material P2FBT4T-2OD.
Even if research group B published similar work in other journals shortly after submission, research group A needn't worry too much. They can claim that two research groups discovered this material at the same time.
Under such circumstances, the manuscript will generally not be rejected on the grounds that "others have published similar work".
Unless the writing is too bad, or the manuscript is rejected for other reasons, it will be affected.
However, if research group B publishes an article before research group A submits the paper, then research group A cannot claim that "it was the first to discover this material".
And when the article is submitted for review, it is likely to be sent to the B research group.
Because the editor will use big data analysis when selecting reviewers.
Researchers and field experts who have published similar work will be given priority.
At this time, research group A not only has to cite the articles of research group B, but also find other innovative points, and the grade of the article will drop a lot, so it is considered useless.
...
As for Xu Qiu's fate after this article, we can only look at the peer review and other researchers' approval of this article.
This is not something they can control.
Generally, such large articles have five to seven reviewers, and at least half of the reviewers must give positive opinions. Some journals even require all positive opinions before the article can be accepted.
Therefore, there is also a part of luck in it.
"It's been hard for you recently, do you need to give you a few days off to have a good rest." Teacher Wei said.
Xu Qiu looked at the senior sister, only to see that she shook her head and said, "No need."
"Neither do I."
Anyway, Teacher Wei's attitude has already been placed here, and he took the initiative to ask them if they want to ask for leave.
Then even if you paddle normally, Teacher Wei will definitely turn a blind eye.
Rather than a few days of vacation, it may be better to have a relaxed external environment for a few weeks.
Moreover, after this AM job was submitted, there are still a lot of leftovers, which are also articles after articles.
...
Back in the dormitory, Xu Qiu began to take stock of the recent experiments:
From the beginning of the synthesis experiment in mid-August to the end of October, all the experiments and article writing have been completed in more than two months.
In terms of progress, it is still relatively fast.
The main reason is that the experiment process was relatively smooth, and no major bottlenecks were encountered, which is also luck.
And there is also the help of the simulation laboratory, plus basically working overtime every week, doing work beyond 996.
In this way, luck and hard work are indispensable.
But Xu Qiu is fair to say that in the field of scientific research, the former is more important.
The next finishing work will generally focus on the five systems of PBT4T and the three systems of Chen Wanqing.
He remembered that his senior had asked him to help with the synthesis a few days ago.
It just so happened that his materials were consumed a lot after a pass of characterization and device fabrication, and needed to be replenished.
This time, it is not necessary to inject less than 200 mg of material as before, but more, such as 500 mg.
In this way, it can be used for a long time, but the requirements for operation are relatively high.
In case of a negative response, hundreds of dollars will be gone.
In this regard, Xu Qiu is very confident in himself.
With successive successes, he is also a little swollen, as if he was born to do scientific research.
However, it didn't take long for him to swell, and he calmed down.
Then, start thinking about new research directions.
You can't just sit and eat, no matter how good the PBT4T system is, it is only a very small branch in the field of organic photovoltaics, and there are not many things to dig.
Moreover, it does not jump out of the framework of the predecessors, and it is still based on the traditional system of fullerene derivatives as a whole.
However, the highest efficiency of the devices in this system has been stuck at 10-12%, and it has not been touched for many years.
Probably not the way forward in the field of organic photovoltaics.
It is still necessary to take a long-term view to see if we can make a bigger breakthrough and blaze a path of our own.
Of course it will be difficult, but always try.
What if it happens?
...
On Saturday, Xu Qiu sorted out some recent review articles in the field of organic photovoltaics in his dormitory, and began to analyze:
In the organic solar cell system, the half-peak width of the light absorption range of the polymer donor material is generally around 200-300 nanometers.
The acceptor material is mostly fullerene derivative PCBM, which hardly absorbs light with a wavelength above 400 nanometers.
It can be approximated that the active layer of organic photovoltaics can only absorb light in the width range of 200-300 nanometers, for example, 400-650 nanometers, or 500-800 nanometers.
The wavelength range of visible light is 390-780 nanometers, and the solar spectrum reaching the ground has a wider range, 295-2500 nanometers.
Therefore, there is a fatal problem in the traditional system based on fullerene derivatives.
That is, the light absorption range of the active layer is too narrow to cover the entire solar spectrum.
Most of the sunlight penetrates the active layer, the transmission loss is very large, and the upper limit of the photoelectric conversion efficiency is very low.
For example, inorganic silicon solar cells with better performance have a very wide range of light absorption, and have good light absorption within 300-1000 nanometers.
In essence, it is the acceptor material fullerene derivative, which hardly absorbs visible light, but only has a firm foothold by virtue of its excellent electron mobility.
Researchers have also discovered this problem very early and have been looking for alternatives to fullerenes.
Unfortunately, more than 20 years have passed, and there is still no material that can replace fullerene.
Before returning to China, Mr. Wei mainly researched the perylene diimide PDI system, which is a substitute for fullerene.
At present, the highest efficiency of its blended system with PTB7-TH is less than 8%.
In addition, researchers have also developed polymer receptors, N2200, and other small molecule receptors with A-D-A structure, etc.
However, there is also no way to hit the 8% threshold, let alone 10%.
In order to achieve commercial applications, the photoelectric conversion efficiency in the laboratory must be at least 15%.
This has also led to the current decline in the field of organic photovoltaics, and the popularity has relegated to the second line, gradually being surpassed by rookie perovskite materials.
If it weren't for the PTB7-TH discovered in recent years, which increased the maximum efficiency to about 12%, and continued the life of organic photovoltaics, it would have been cooler.
Xu Qiu didn't know this until he entered the research group and read a lot of literature.
Knowing this, would it be better to choose perovskite?
Maybe, Xu Qiu didn't struggle for long.
They come, the security.
It's not time to back down just yet.
If there is no way ahead, then find a way out.
