#139 - Chapter 139 Ideological Work among Students
The trainees were silent, all lowering their heads. They already understood what Dongfang Chen meant.
The training over the past period had made them complacent.
They mistakenly believed they already possessed the power to contend with this era.
But in reality, their hearts were fragile and vulnerable.
Their strength was utterly inadequate.
"Do you have the right to demand an explanation? Clearly not!" Dongfang Chen continued.
"I hope you understand that the person who truly deserves an explanation is me."
"I provided you with the best training conditions, yet you gave me the worst performance. Based on your current showing, I find it hard to imagine how you can lead more people to survive in this era."
"Alright, enough nonsense. If anyone still feels it's unfair, you can lay down your weapons and equipment and leave this place. Perhaps you'll find your so-called fairness outside."
Having said that, Dongfang Chen paused for a minute.
He was seeing if anyone would step out, giving them a chance to choose freely.
He didn't like forcing people.
A minute passed, and no one came forward.
"Not bad. You're more courageous than I thought," Dongfang Chen nodded slightly and said.
"Since no one chooses to leave, then let me show you a scene first."
After speaking, Dongfang Chen waved his hand, and a huge image appeared in the sky.
Everyone looked up at the video.
The scene was of a city, it was unknown where.
In the beginning, everything seemed normal, but everyone knew that something extraordinary was about to happen.
"Look!" someone whispered.
They saw something crawling on the streets in the distance. Then, more insects appeared. The scene was like a locust plague.
Some crawled on the ground, some flew in the sky.
Wherever they passed, nothing was left alive.
Even the zombies hiding in the darkness let out bursts of roars.
Gradually, these insects approached, and they could be seen clearly.
They were cockroaches!
They were as big as the cars next to them.
The streets were full of them, densely packed, stretching as far as the eye could see.
Everyone who saw this scene felt their scalps tingle.
Just from what was presented in the camera, there were at least hundreds of thousands of them.
Suddenly, the image disappeared.
"Alright, everyone has seen it. This scene is real and happened on a street in Guangchen City, Dongzhou Province. Now I ask everyone again, do you still think it's unfair to fight tens of thousands of harmless spider robots?"
"In the face of survival, fairness is just an excuse for the weak!"
"You've all seen it, this is reality, this is the challenge you are about to face. You are not fighting for me, you are fighting for yourselves."
"This is just the beginning. Now answer me, do you have the courage?" Dongfang Chen asked loudly.
"Yes!" the crowd replied.
"Good! This is the first time, and also the last time, I'll do ideological work for you. There won't be another time!"
"If anyone still feels it's unfair, then just leave!"
"Dismissed!"
"Whoosh ~"
All the robots uniformly lowered their front claws and withdrew in an orderly fashion.
The trainees were silent.
Many people woke up and felt remorseful for their behavior.
In just over a month, they had forgotten their former fear and despair.
Just as Dongfang Chen said: In dangerous environments, groups form a cohesive unity, while in comfortable environments, ideological divisions arise.
Judging from the performance of the trainees, the harm brought by comfort was evident.
If it weren't for facing such a severe survival challenge, perhaps these people would never have stood together, let alone accept such training.
The next day, training continued as usual.
Having experienced the previous day's torment, the trainees behaved much more cautiously.
With the threat of flying robots, the outdoors became unsafe. They could only use the building as a base and begin to defend it fiercely.
In order to achieve better results and persist for a longer time, they built fortresses with cars and used their own flesh and blood to buy time for their companions, using every means possible.
Although defeating tens of thousands of robots was still unrealistic, even persisting for 24 hours was a luxury.
But they were growing madly in the continuous battles.
......
"Mr. Dongfang, is there any new activity in Funing District?" Rong Po asked in front of the map.
"What do you mean?" Dongfang Chen asked.
"I've noticed that the streets in Funing District are changing every day. In the past two days, even the abandoned vehicles on the streets are gone," Rong Po said.
"You're quite observant. But you're a bit too idle for a chief instructor! Instead of carefully studying the performance of the trainees, you're observing my streets," Dongfang Chen laughed.
"Just looking!" Rong Po smiled.
He couldn't possibly say that he had promised Commander Yan to gather more information.
How could Dongfang Chen not know his little tricks? He was deliberately letting him see.
Sometimes, actively trying to prove your strength to others is not as credible or effective as letting others discover it on their own.
