I have a wizarding world

#173 - Crescent City Construction

The south of New Moon City was a slum, home to the poorest residents of the city. But now, even they had mostly fled.

Only a grandmother and granddaughter remained in the entire slum.

Most of the houses were cobbled together from rotten wood and tattered cloth, a hallmark of the slums. Every winter, many people froze to death in these flimsy structures.

Inside one of the dilapidated houses:

"Leah, you must escape. Don't worry about me anymore."

An elderly woman, nearing her end, lay on the bed. Her hair was gray and brittle, a sign of long-term malnutrition. Wrinkles etched themselves across her face and hands.

Beside the bed, a frail figure squatted. Their family was so poor they didn't even own a wooden stool.

"Grandma, you're the only family I have left. I won't abandon you to save myself."

The girl called Leah had long, brown hair. She looked young, a budding seventeen or eighteen years old. She was slender, with delicate freckles dotting her face, hinting at a captivating youthfulness.

However, her clothing didn't match her youthful charm. She was wrapped in layers of ragged burlap, the kind wealthy families used as rags.

The entire house was filthy, with nothing that seemed usable.

"Leah, is there any food left? I'm hungry."

Hearing her grandmother's words, Leah's tears welled up. She stammered, unsure how to answer. In truth, she hadn't had a full meal in days.

Forcing back her sadness, Leah wiped away her tears with her dirty hands, leaving streaks of black on her face.

"Grandma, I'll go find some food for you."

Leah stood up, preparing to leave the house.

"Is this the place? A047."

"Yes, sir."

Outside, two gruff voices echoed.

Hearing the men's voices, Leah tensed up. This was the New Moon City slum, and even in its prime, the治安 (zhì ān) [public safety] was terrible, let alone now that it was practically a ghost town.

咚咚咚 (dōng dōng dōng)!

A knocking came at Leah's door.

Hearing the knocking, Leah's heart pounded like a drum. She was so nervous that sweat beaded on her forehead.

"No one home?"

"They should be. They're the only ones left."

The knocking grew more violent.

"Is anyone there?"

Leah heard the door banging and tears streamed down her face. A sob escaped her lips, "呜 (wū)," and she immediately clamped her dirty hands over her mouth.

"Someone's inside!"

Outside, the two clone troopers exchanged a glance and kicked the door open, barging inside.

"Ah!"

Seeing her door kicked open, Leah screamed, like a startled rabbit.

The two clone troopers wore dark green special ops uniforms, but unlike usual, they carried no weapons or equipment. No gauss rifles, not even a dagger.

They stood outside, carrying two sacks of rice, their expressions solemn.

Only when they saw that the house contained only a young girl and an old woman in bed did they relax.

"Why didn't you open the door?"

One of the clone troopers demanded loudly.

But when he saw Leah trembling, he immediately understood.

The other clone trooper, carrying a sack of rice, slowly walked in. After scanning the room to confirm there was no danger, he said to Leah, "Hello, New Moon City is now under the command of our lord. From today onward, you are citizens under his rule."

Hearing this, Leah's trembling subsided slightly.

After a moment, she hesitantly asked, "Isn't New Moon City under Baron Makos?"

"No," the clone trooper repeated. "The master of New Moon City is now called Fang Cheng. Remember that. This is food for you. Once the活尸 (huó shī) [living corpses] outside the city are cleared, you can resume farming."

"Fang Cheng?" Leah repeated.

The clone trooper nodded, looked around the house, then turned to leave.

"By the way," the clone trooper seemed to suddenly remember something. "All the houses in this city will be torn down and rebuilt, so we hope you can cooperate when the time comes."

With that, the two clone troopers left without looking back, leaving two sacks of rice on the ground.

"Food!"

Leah murmured, remembering what the clone trooper had said. After they left, she rushed over.

The rice bags were modern packaging, sealed shut. Leah, who had been hungry for days, couldn't open them for a while.

After struggling for a long time, Leah finally used her teeth to tear open the seal and opened the bag of rice.

"What kind of food is this?" Leah muttered, grabbing a handful of the white rice.

She had never seen this kind of food before and stood there in a daze.

In the sky above New Moon City, a spaceship flew closer from afar.

In the sky, a black dot grew larger and larger, eventually creating a sense of遮天蔽日 (zhē tiān bì rì) [covering the sky and sun], it was the floating island flying magic tool that Fang Cheng was riding.

The ship's hull was gray-white, with two wing-like feathers at the stern. From the outside, it didn't look like it could float.

Fang Cheng stood by the ship's railing, looking down at New Moon City.

New Moon City hadn't changed much compared to when he left, but many of the buildings in the city had been torn down.

This was what Fang Cheng had instructed the clone troopers to do. He had long disliked these old and dilapidated buildings. He wanted to build a modern city in another world, and the C-1 engineering robots in Fang Cheng's hands made his ideas possible.

In New Moon City, the clone troopers saw the huge unidentified flying object appearing in the sky and became highly nervous. This was the first time they had seen such a huge aircraft.

Even in the knowledge they were instilled with, neither Earth nor the other world had such a huge aircraft. The ship in front of them was several times larger than the largest transport plane on Earth.

The clone troopers didn't know if the aircraft in front of them was a threat, and they quickly mobilized as if facing a formidable enemy.

The electromagnetic railguns deployed in the city immediately stood up, the muzzles aimed at the spaceship. As long as an order was given, they could destroy the ship in front of them.

"Sir, should we shoot it down with the electromagnetic railgun?"

Beside A003, a clone trooper asked loudly for instructions.

A003 held up a rangefinder telescope, looking at the spaceship in the sky, his eyebrows furrowed.
