252 Thank You For Everything

-UNEDITED-

At Derhan Palace

After dinner, Gavin checked his father Damiel in his room. He knocked, and his father opened the door.

"Yes, son?" Damiel asked.

"Can I come in?" Gavin asked with a smile.

"Sure, son," Damiel said and opened the door wide so Gavin could enter.

"I brought a good drink. I made this myself… It's your favorite," Gavin said, raising the bottle in his hand.

"Grumpy old man drink?" Damiel guessed, chuckling. Then his face suddenly paled as he asked, "You remember?"

Gavin nodded and said, "Yeah, I remember only a few, and one of them is we, having this drink in your favorite place. The balcony under the night sky. It's been a year since we last spent time like that together."

Damiel managed a smile with a relieved expression after hearing Gavin's answer. Gavin noticed that, but he acted like normal and did not comment. He walked on the room's minibar and prepared the drink at the balcony with some snacks he brought. Damiel followed him and sat on the chair beside Gavin.

"Let's see if it will pass my taste. You are good at mixing cocktails, son. I wonder if it's still the same now that your memory is still not completely back." Damiel commented.

Gavin poured him the drink, and Damiel grabbed the glass and sipped on it.

"Oh, it's good! I guess your natural talent for things won't be lost even if your memories are gone." Damiel commented.

Gavin chuckled and whispered, "I guess so, father."

"How are you, son? How is it here inside the palace?" Damiel asked.

Gavin sighed and looked at the sky as he answered, "It's complicated here but manageable. I can't just ignore my responsibilities, especially now that my twin is missing…"

"Yeah, you are a responsible person who won't run away on things like this. But is this what you want, son? You know you can always come back and stay with us in country D and live your normal life like Gavin Wu." Damiel said, looking at him.

Gavin turned to him and asked, "Can I do that, father?"

"Yes, you can if you want…" Damiel answered.

"How about father Lucas? My birth father innocently lost me when I was a baby. I honestly feel bad for him hearing the story on how Duncan destroyed his family and killed my mother?"

Damiel gulped, and there was silence for a moment.

"I heard about the story of your real family from Noah. And yet, I think it's better you also hear the side of that, Duncan, right? No one knows what happened. You're all not sure that he killed your mother, Gavin. What if he has his reasons?" Damiel commented.

"Reasons for kidnapping my pregnant mother? Nothing is considered a valid reason for a man to commit a crime like that. Even if he did not kill my mother with his own hands, it's still him that led my mother to her death and even took me away from my real family and left me on the doorstep of an orphanage?" Gavin muttered with a frown, and Damiel could see how Gavin fisted his palm.

"I'm just saying we don't know what happens, son. Did you ask your father? Maybe your father could also be the one responsible for it?" Damiel commented.

Gavin did not respond and contained his emotions as he added, "Sorry if I suddenly brought this up. I consider myself lucky since you take good care of me and raised me so well, father. I am grateful that I want you to know that I love you truly as a son."

"And I love you too, son. We don't share the same blood, but for me, you are my real son and my own blood Gavin…"

Gavin poured his father more drinks when his glass was already empty.

"Father, can you tell me more about mother? I honestly do not remember so much about her except that she was always in bed since she was sick." Gavin whispered.

"Yeah, she is bedridden because of her disease. She is a good woman, and I'm sure she will treat you so well too if only she is able."

"Tell me, father, among all the abandoned babies in the orphanage. What made you pick me?" Gavin asked.

"Hmm, because you are a beautiful baby son. You smiled when I held you in my arms, son. And I knew at that moment that I had to keep you with me no matter what. That you deserve to be with me, and I will become your father, the best father you could ever have." Damiel said, staring lovingly at Gavin.

"I never had the chance to properly thank you for everything you did for me all those years as my father. For all the love and care you have shown and showered me. Thank you, father Damiel, and I will always cherish those good memories we have together as a father and son…" Gavin whispered. His eyes started welling up as tears ran down his cheek.

"Ah, come here, son. Why are you crying? It's just your coronation day tomorrow, but you sound like you're going to a distant place. Don't worry because your father will do anything. I will make way for me to stay by your side." Damiel whispered.

Damiel stood up, and Gavin hugged his waist. He knew Damiel genuinely loved him as a son, but he committed a crime, and he still needed to face the consequences of his actions.

"Thank you, father, and I love you," Gavin whispered, sobbing. His heart was aching too much, but he must do what was right no matter what.

"Shhh, stop crying now, son, or your eyes will smell. Tomorrow is your coronation day. It should be a happy day for you, and you must look dashing tomorrow. I also have a surprise for you, son. I intend to tell you about it tomorrow, but I guess it will brighten up your mood if I tell you now."

"You see, I decided that I will stay in this country and will stay with you, son, if you want me to. I want to be by your side like before, if possible… But if you think this will complicate things or your biological father will be uncomfortable about it, then I will visit you here from time to time…."
