Knight Lord: Start with Daily Intelligence
#62 - Badland Nomad
Greenleaf Land is located to the north of the Central Plains. It may not be the most affluent area in the territory, but it certainly boasts the most beautiful scenery.
The soft, verdant hills and meadows rise into rolling hills, bisected by the Blackwater River. The rushing river creates beautiful waterfalls and tranquil bays, all adorned by countless lush green trees, making the landscape breathtaking.
However, beneath this beautiful scenery lies the greatest risk within the fertile lands of Blackwood Territory.
Dark forests, rugged passes, and deep valleys conceal various monsters and enemies. Bloodthirsty beastmen, vile bandits, and Badland nomads are the most common threats here.
Especially when a territory's lord is not powerful enough to venture far from roads and plains to search the remote mountains and forests, all sorts of evil forces will breed here.
Badland nomads are one such group, living in the harsh areas of the Border Princes, as the name suggests.
When the Empire was developing the fertile lands of the Border Princes, in addition to exiled noble children and pioneer lords, they also employed a large number of criminals.
Using criminals and prisoners to develop harsh lands is a common tactic of the Imperial nobles. Many rangers, thieves, and bandits who didn't commit capital crimes would be sentenced to exile by the Empire, with the destination being the crime-ridden Border Princes.
Of course, besides criminals exiled to the Badlands seeking forgiveness, many people came to this land with the ideal of changing their way of life. Such as those who wanted to evade legal supervision, smugglers, outlaw leaders, and even wild alchemists and apothecaries.
Although many people of questionable character fled to the Badlands to escape the consequences of their previous actions, some were born to yearn for life in the mountains, such as farmers and rioters who had lost their land. While pioneer lords openly developed territories on this land, they hid in valleys and canyons to secretly develop farms, evade taxes, and seek hope for survival.
There is a natural and intense antagonism between the two sides. Nobles cannot tolerate them stealing their land, and nomads cannot tolerate the nobles' harsh taxes. Once they discover each other, war is inevitable, and one side must yield.
But it is difficult to say which side has a greater chance of winning in this war. After all, the Badland nomads are not lacking in desperate people. In this land, which is far more arduous than the Empire, Badland nomads tend to live in groups, each Badland nomad force has a large number of people and is often very united. They often guard farms in strategically important locations. Fighting on this kind of battlefield is very disadvantageous for the knights, so winning is not easy.
And the farm discovered by the Blackwood Territory army perfectly meets all these characteristics. This fortified farm is located between two mountains, overlooking the surrounding land, like a summit on a ridge. Its walls are thick and strong, bearing many historical scars from past bandit and beastmen attacks. Every night, the owner of this Linburg farm drives the herd inside the tall walls.
All this caution is undoubtedly the experience and lessons learned from many battles with beastmen and bandits.
When Su Li arrived with the knights and halfling archers, it was almost midnight. The moon was particularly round tonight, hidden behind dark clouds, its light somewhat hazy and reddish.
This kind of red moon in the Badlands of the Border Princes is considered a symbol of the rampaging beastmen. Whenever the red moon appears, large numbers of beastmen will emerge from the forests, valleys, and cliffs, devouring large quantities of blood, and after a rainstorm, they can breed a large number of monsters in a month.
And this Linburg farm is the target of a beastmen horde.
Seeing the reinforcements arrive, Knight Orstein quickly made a silencing gesture and personally greeted Su Li to the hillside where he had been lurking.
"Lord, a group of beastmen also arrived here about an hour ago. Fortunately, according to your order, we did not rashly disturb this farm. Otherwise, surrounded by them, attacked from both sides, we would have suffered heavy losses today."
Su Li observed the situation ahead in the direction he pointed, and this sight made him take a deep breath.
On the outskirts of the dark forest, on the road to Linburg Farm, there were at least hundreds of terrifying half-orc monsters!
Although this herd is diverse in appearance, they are all beast-headed human-bodied monsters. They have the heads and legs of goats, while the middle is a hairy and foul-smelling human torso. They have savage wolf teeth that can tear large chunks of flesh from enemies, and with their muscular and strong physique, they can vent their instinctive anger to their heart's content.
These are their main force, called Gor, although some of them have the heads of horses, bulls, or even hounds, and have extra limbs, single eyes, and whip-like tails, but the畸变 generally occurs on their human-shaped torso. The common symbol of their identity is the terrifying horns on their heads, and at the same time, they hold sophisticated battle axes and heavy broadswords in their hands.
Scattered around them are a large number of Ungor and Ungor raiders. Their bodies are much weaker, but they are more agile and more vicious.
Basically, one Gor needs a formal knight to fight against. Ungor are much weaker. A squire can deal with three or four at the same time, and even an armored armed servant can kill one or two Ungor in war.
But war is not a fair duel in an arena. Gor will not stand there waiting for the knights to go up and fight them one-on-one. On the contrary, they will actively attack those weaker than them and undermine the morale of the enemy.
So, with the current strength of Blackwood Territory, it is necessary to be very careful to win this herd. Once the war does not win decisively, and the two sides enter a bloody close combat, then the losses of the Blackwood Territory infantry are inevitable!
Su Li cautiously observed the battlefield and whispered to Knight Orstein beside him: "What are these beastmen doing?"
Knight Orstein whispered back: "These monsters are not only cruel but also very cunning. They are negotiating with this Linburg farm."

Negotiate?
Before Su Li had time to ask in detail, there was a commotion in front. The beastmen leader surrounded Linburg Farm with his followers and expressed his decision in a guttural voice: "As long as you hand over 5 blood sacrifices, this farm will be spared tonight."
The farm was obviously caught in a fierce dispute. Whether to sacrifice the farmers, or their children, to save their lives and skins, or to fight the monsters to the end?
Su Li immediately saw the monsters' conspiracy. He solemnly said: "These monsters are deliberately weakening the morale of their opponents and undermining their unity. If the farm hands over 5 blood sacrifices, even if the beastmen spare them this time, the strengthened beastmen will make a comeback and make greater ambitions. As one rises and the other falls, the fall of this farm is inevitable."
