Knight Lord: Start with Daily Intelligence

#84 - New runes, new equipment and new soldiers

Dwarves have a very recognizable iconic voice. They always sound like they're drunk, with a rumbling sound coming from their throats, yet it's very loud and resonant, and the sound is deafening.

If you've ever slept in a male college student's dorm, you'll have a very intuitive understanding of their voices. The loudest snoring in the dorm is probably the normal speaking volume of a dwarf.

Once dwarves get excited, the whole room will echo with their loud reverberations. Ordinary humans in the room will only feel their ears aching from the vibrations.

Hearing the excited voice of a dwarf from afar, Su Li looked in the direction of the sound and, sure enough, it was the territory's Rune Smith, Boros Dragonhammer.

It is well known that a dwarf's status is related to the length of their beard (due to age). Su Li has also summarized a characteristic of dwarves: the higher the decibel level of their voice, the higher their strength.

The stronger the dwarf, the louder and more deafening their voice, so Su Li never talks to Boros Dragonhammer in a room.

Seeing Boros Dragonhammer running towards him with his short legs from afar, Su Li felt his ears aching faintly. But he couldn't raise his hand to stop him from approaching, as that would make the dwarf feel that his emotions were being offended. These short races have characteristics of enthusiasm and intimacy. Showing resistance and alienation towards them would make them very depressed, and it's even very likely that the vengeful dwarf would write it down in the Book of Grudges.

Boros Dragonhammer obviously didn't consider so much. He excitedly ran all the way to Su Li, placing the huge iron box in front of him, which completely covered him above the knees, on the ground.

The iron box landed heavily, smashing into the muddy ground with a booming sound, stirring up countless dirt and grass clippings.

Before Su Li could ask what was inside, Boros opened the lid of the box, immediately revealing the cold light inside.

Boros first took out a set of Mithril Rune Armor and said to Su Li, "Lord, this is the Perfect Mithril Rune Armor of our territory's knights, 'Blazing Soul Decree'. You already know the effects of the [Cold Steel Rune] and [Laurel of Honor] engraved on it, so I won't introduce them further. But I still have to say that this set of armor made by dwarves has far surpassed the other sets in terms of protection, in addition to the rune effects. Anything made by dwarves is a masterpiece. And thanks to the Star Iron you found, the sturdiness of this armor far exceeds ordinary armor, and it belongs to the top tier among the Perfect grade."

Su Li nodded with satisfaction. The smooth lines and cold light of the armor told him that it was extraordinary.

He said with a smile, "My Rune Master, your craftsmanship is well-known throughout the territory. I will personally wear this armor in the future."

Including this set of armor, the territory now has four sets of Rune Armor, worn by Su Li, Orstein, Hilde, and Schwartz respectively.

Although Su Li doesn't fight on the front lines, having such a set of armor is very conducive to enhancing his leadership charisma and boosting morale.

Of course, Boros also hoped that this armor could be worn by the territory's most noble lord, which would greatly enhance his reputation.

According to the agreement between Su Li and him, he is not Su Li's slave. Unlike the other dwarves who have to work for the territory for a hundred years, he is considered a free citizen of the territory.

So Su Li has to pay him 5 gold coins a month as wages for forging various equipment and tools for Su Li.

This also means that if he has free time after work, he can forge equipment for sale.

The difference between a free citizen and a serf is that he can spend his time as he pleases outside of the 12 hours he works.

Dwarves are generally energetic. If they have iron to work with, they can stay up for two days and two nights without sleeping.

In theory, he has a lot of time to forge armor and weapons.

Then he can open a dwarf weapon shop in the territory and sell various weapons and armor to the knights.

However, since there are currently no caravans in the territory and the materials all belong to Su Li, the lord, Boros Dragonhammer has recently been focusing on forging equipment for Su Li.

Dwarves are happy as long as they have iron to work with and don't care too much about who they are making equipment for.

Even if he had his own purchased raw materials, if he could forge a True Gold Rune Armor, he would immediately enjoy the pleasure of forging more advanced equipment, without resting for days and nights.

This set of armor is his masterpiece during this period. After he handed the armor over to Hilde to manage, he took out a two-handed long sword from the upper right corner of the box.

After holding the hilt, he couldn't help but shake his burned right hand, grimacing at Su Li and saying, "Lord, this is a Rune Sword, and I named it 'Radiant Dawn'. It's a Rune Sword for light-attribute knights."

"I originally planned to make a fire-attribute warhammer for you, but there wasn't enough Mithril left to make a warhammer, so I made a Rune Sword first."

Dwarves are generally extremely stubborn and conservative. The rune weapons they make are generally mature runes.

So Boros Dragonhammer proudly introduced to Su Li, "I have engraved two very perfect runes on this Rune Sword, namely [Shattering Rune] and [Dawn Oath]."

"Please allow me to introduce the effects of these two runes to you. The Shattering Rune is our dwarves' most proud masterpiece and our favorite rune. It first appeared on the axe of our Dwarf High King Gotrek. In the War of the Beard, this axe once destroyed the magic blade of High Elf Phoenix King Calidor II. Since then, it has become a commonly used rune; our dwarf rune smiths especially like to hear the sound of other races' inferior weapons shattering like icicles under a hammer."

"Dawn Oath can give knights extremely strong light attribute buffs, making each of their attacks equivalent to a heavy blow. If the enemy's strength check fails, then they will never be able to block the sword's attack. At the same time, when this sword attacks head-on, there is a chance that the opponent will fall into a state of blindness and burns due to the intense light of the radiant sun. Each attack on the same target will increase the probability of this state being triggered and extend the duration for a certain period of time. If the opponent does not have a powerful amulet, then the effect of this Dawn Oath will be very fatal."

"Amulet?" Su Li's expression immediately changed. He had an amulet, and it was still a powerful Relic of Glory, the Windwing Amulet. He couldn't help but ask, "Can amulets be crafted?"

Boros Dragonhammer nodded proudly and said, "Our rune smiths' skills are naturally more than just this. Although a knight can equip many messy little gadgets, those can at most be called pendants. How can they be called equipment?"

"The main equipment on a powerful knight should include five items: weapon, armor, ring, amulet, and badge."

"Correspondingly, our dwarves can create several runes: weapon runes, armor runes, amulet runes, battle standard runes, and engineering runes."

Weapon runes, armor runes, and amulet runes are easy to understand. Su Li asked curiously, "What are battle standard runes and engineering runes?"

Boros's expression became even more proud. He couldn't help but raise his chin and squinted his eyes. For the extremely stubborn and conservative dwarves, there is nothing that makes them more proud than showing off the technology of their ancestors.

Boros introduced in a muffled voice, "First, let's talk about the simpler engineering runes, which are runes engraved on engineering and war machines. For example, Frakeson's Seeking Rune, which was first invented in the War of Vengeance and used to shoot down dragon knights with catapults. The Burning Rune, any ammunition launched by war machines with this rune will catch fire when it hits the target."

Su Li was overjoyed. If the territory had several catapults or dragon-hunting crossbows specifically targeting dragons, engraved with runes targeting dragons, then the chances of victory against the Young Green Dragon, Wing of Deceit, would be increased by several points in the future.

"What about battle standard runes?"

"Battle standard runes are runes engraved on battle standards and family crests. For example, the Master Rune of Grungi, which can stir up the winds of magic, using the rotating magical power to protect its bearer and nearby dwarves from enemy ranged attacks. The Master Rune of Fear, the army that goes into battle with this banner gives the illusion that they are taller than the enemy. Dwarves themselves are powerful enough opponents, and a giant dwarf force is enough to intimidate the most powerful enemies!"

"Giant dwarf force?" Su Li asked curiously, "What is that called? Giant dwarves?"

Boros said very seriously, "Lord, please don't underestimate our dwarves' combat power. There are a large number of slayers among our dwarves. The lowest-level troll slayers can slaughter trolls, and then there are more powerful giant slayers and dragon slayers above them. Their size is comparable to that of behemoths and ogres, and some are even larger than knights riding warhorses. They can wield sharp giant axes and slaughter dragons!"

There really are giant dwarf forces? It seems that not all dwarves are Ironbreakers. Dwarves in this world are just a general term for a race. There are always some strong, older dwarves who, for various reasons, either have the favor of the gods or are contaminated by the aura of dragons, and their bodies become huge.

It's a pity that there isn't a single dragon slayer nearby, otherwise the Young Green Dragon wouldn't dare to nest here.

Then Su Li said to Boros, "If I see a dwarf slayer, I will definitely hire him to help us deal with the dragons around the Black Forest Territory. So, my Rune Master, your box is so heavy, is there anything else in it?"

"Oh, there are also three sets of excellent dwarf heavy armor, all of which are heavy plate armor." As he spoke, he took out three sets of knight plate armor with cold light from the box.

Su Li asked in surprise, "Can you forge so much armor by yourself?"

Even if you don't sleep or rest, you can't forge it by yourself, right? Su Li remembers that it takes at least 7 to 15 days for the Empire humans to forge a set of plate armor. This is still on the basis that the Empire has improved the forging process. Dwarves are extremely stubborn and conservative, and they shouldn't have this kind of efficiency.

Boros slapped his thigh with annoyance, "Oh! Damn, I actually lost to that group of stupid idiots. Lord, didn't you see that this is not my forging craftsmanship? This is the dwarf plate armor forged by the young dwarf juniors I guided. This made me lose three cups of troll brew!"
