Life Of A Nobody - as a Villain

339 Talks and preparations

Outside the forests

"Sir principal, is it really safe to conduct these exams now? We have received credible news that Warzy is planning a move, I still think we should..."

The principal of Zenith, Bartholomew looked at the professor who voiced his doubts and the stare alone silenced the man.

"World Association isn't scared of them, of anyone." He said and continued, "The preparations for the matches have been made with double the security features. The guard teams of patrols and professors acting as supervisors had also been doubled. There is no need to be scared to those terrorists."

"Yeah, we are raising the students to fight against the worlds and injustices, what would they think if the academy itself shows signs of weakness against such small threats."

"The students who reached till this point are all genius talents and hopes for the future, it is time to build there character, not to turn them into cowards."

"And that's exactly what worries me, professor Dre. The students now are all future pillers of society, nobles, elites, rankers - they're all talents we are responsible for nurturing. If anything happened and we lost them, the consequences would be disastrous."

"It could not only ruin the reputation of world association, but also ruin the relations we have with all the families and clans backing them."

"So what do you suggest, we cancel this exam and wait till the warzy announces they're giving up on their plans? That we are too weak to even defend our students against such trash? Arcadia will laugh at you."

"That's not..."

"Silence." Bartholomew spoke again, stopping the debate that had started under his nose. His eyes scanned the crowd of professors sitting around the table , taking note of everyone's thoughts and expressions.

"I have already said what needs to be said..."

"But principal, we should at least inform the other academies or ask for their...." An old professor wanted to speak, but a pressure locked him in place, making it harder for him to finish his words.

"Do not interrupt my speech, professor Kira." Bartholomew said and took his pressure away.

The weight of it lasted only for two seconds, but professor Kira who was already SS rank felt like he was crushed under a mountain and all his powers and strength were of no use to him, causing a wave of fear to rise in his heart.

He wiped the sweat from his forehead and kept his head low, not daring to speak against or anything at all in this meeting.

"Zenith is fully capable of handling these small matters. I will hear no complaints or excuses from anyone. Just remember your oaths and do your job." Bartholomew said before his figure disappeared from the main seat.

All the professors stared at the empty chair and then at the professor who angered their principal and shook their heads.

"You shouldn't have done that, professor Kira. If you're so worried about your son, why not just let him quit the challenge instead." The professor called Dre, spoke up again with a mocking smile, while patting him on the shoulder.

"Though selfish, professor Kira is right. We shouldn't take Warzy lightly." A woman spoke up while hiding her face behind a folding fan. "They haven't made a big move in recent years and if they don't want to be left behind by the Sinner's guilds and be forgotten, they would show their fangs soon."

"Humph, they can try whatever they want, but with so many people present during the tournament, our principal and other staff from all the academies, if they dare to show their faces, they'd be killed on spot." Another professor replied.

"The dungeon is a dangerous place, professor Washington. Anything can happen there." The woman said meaningfully, while glancing at the 'Kira' still lost in his thoughts.

"All the students in the dungeon would be equipped with the latest imaging tech and tracking runes prepared by the the elders. Not to mention the dozens of staff who will also be following students inside. You all are just seriously overthinking things."

"Let's hope so." The woman said and left the office alone.

One by one all the staff left the meeting room, and only one man stayed behind. He looked at a locket in his arms, with a picture of his wife and son in middle, and prayed to God, that he was overreacting as everyone said.

"Lord Zeus, please protect my son." He said, looking at the mark of thunder on his arms.

...

The academy was preparing for any and all attacks on the dungeon, checking everything dozens of times to make sure nothing wrong happens inside, not aware the masscare won't wait till then.

Everyone strong always thinks the worst would always happen only when they aren't around.

Principal and staff of Zenith also thought the same, thus they all focused on securing the dungeon, where they themselves or any gods wouldn't be able to interfere easily, not aware that this way of thinking caused them to overlook the danger lurking in shadows right beneath their noses.

Members of eclipse were already sharpening their blades, ready to slash the necks of these so called geniuses.

Rio was ready to see the fruits of his labor, the results for his one year of carefully crafted plan.

As for Warzy, well they can be his scapegoats and carry the blame on their shoulders for him. Cause after all, if he succeeded , the academy would be too busy crying about the losses to host some dungeon exam.

..

Far outside from the lands of arcadia, worlds apart and realms away, where strings of light could never reach and darkness reigned supreme, on an empty ruined desolate planet, held together just by the iron chains binding it whole and the three red moons hanging in the sky, a man finally opened his eyes again.

The pair of red pupils shone brightly in the darkness, as chains around his arms started cranking in response.

"So the game's finally about to start huh. I hope you've laughed a lot my dear Shiva, cause soon enough, every smile of yours will accompany a storm of sadness."

As the words of the chained man echoed in emptiness, the darkness around him grew all of a sudden, even swallowing the pair of moons high in sky, causing the planet to quake and crumble.

Veins popped up on the man's body as the chains turned dark and tightened around his arms, trying to rip him to shreds, yet all it did wasn't even enough to tickle him. He just looked at the sky, his gaze pushing through the darkness and piercing 'everything' before finally landing on the figure of Rio awaiting his exams at Zenith.

"I await the day of your awakening, Devil. We'll meet soon, very very soon. And this time, no one would save your soul."
