Lisco's American Life

Chapter 15 Chinese Food

"Meghan, what do you want to eat for lunch?" Lisko interrupted Megan who was about to start reading.

"It's okay, can you cook?" Megan didn't believe him.

"I am a chef who has been praised by many people. Do you want to try Chinese food? I cook Chinese food very well." Liske promised, patting his chest.

"Chinese food? OK, you can try it. Are you sure it's okay?"

"Don't worry." Lisko took her to the study room and let her read there.

Lisko returned to the kitchen and cleaned his hands. He was going to make two dishes and a soup. He washed the rice and steamed it. Many people think that Americans don’t eat rice, which is actually wrong. They are used to milk, bread, steak, and rice occasionally.

To eat, more Mexicans eat it, and they use rice as a side dish, such as egg fried rice or risotto.

The two dishes Lisko prepared were beef stew with potatoes and scrambled eggs with tomatoes. These two dishes did not have a special spicy taste, especially the sweet and sour taste of scrambled eggs with tomatoes, which foreigners still like to eat. Potatoes

Wagyu beef is often eaten here in the United States. Changing it to a Chinese-style stew may interest them.

There is also a crucian carp in the refrigerator. Lisko planned to make the soup into fish head and tofu soup. Americans don’t eat tofu. They eat all kinds of soy products, but they don’t like tofu. Lisko asked Megan what she thought.

I am quite willing to try it. Tofu is still very common in Chinese restaurants in the United States, and foreigners also try it. Liske thinks that the delicious taste of fish head tofu soup should give Meghan a great dining experience.

Lisko is busy in the kitchen here, and Megan is looking around in the study. She is very curious about what a writer looks like when he is working. Lisko's study is quite tidy. The furniture in the study was bought from Chinatown and is said to be made of mahogany.

, of course, he didn’t care about this. But it was different in Megan’s eyes. She felt that the lines of Xie Xie furniture were full of beauty, exquisite carvings, and mysterious patterns, and had a strong cultural atmosphere.

She reached out and touched the patterns on it, guessing their meaning. She also carefully sat on the stool to experience it. The backrest that smoothly conformed to the lines of the human back made her feel very comfortable.

There are pen holders, straw paper, and laptops on the matching desk. Lisko's laptop is different from others. In addition to the logo of a bitten apple, his usual signature flower is carved in gold on the edge.

Body English.

Next to the notebook was an open box, which contained Lisko's fountain pen of the same style as the Queen's. Of course, Meghan didn't recognize it. She knew it was worth a lot just by looking at the gems inlaid on it.

There is a cigar cabinet under the desk. This cabinet is connected to electricity to always keep the temperature at a temperature suitable for cigars and maintain humidity.

Lisko didn't originally have this hobby. After going to clubs with his mentor a few times, he gave it a try. The feeling of relaxation made him fall in love with smoking cigars. His cigar cabinet is full of rare varieties given to him by others.

The bookcase was divided into grids, and most of them were filled with books. Megan randomly took out a book and opened the cover. It read "For my little junior brother". These books are from Lisko's senior brother and club.

It seems that it has become a very popular practice for writers to give sample books of their new books to each other.

There was only three books in one column of the bookcase. Meghan looked carefully and discovered that the three books in this column were all three books published by Lisko so far.

In the middle of the bookcases are rows of exhibition cabinets, which contain some strange things.

While Megan was looking at it, Lisko happened to come in. His dish was ready, and only a soup was left to be simmered on the fire.

"Meghan?" Lisko called her, "I thought you were reading a book."

Meghan was a little embarrassed, "Your study is great, I'm just going to take a look. Is your desk made in China? It looks beautiful."

"Of course, I spent a few hundred dollars to buy it in Chinatown." Lisko introduced to her, "The carving on it is a lion. In China, such carvings represent the increasing power of blessing. The carving next to it is an elephant.

It represents wealth and honesty.”

This set of mahogany furniture is not an antique, but a modern industrial product.

Lisko saw Megan staring at the display cabinet on his bookcase and introduced them to her separately.

"This is a wild boar tooth. It is a trophy I went hunting in the mountains a few days ago. I only want the tusk of a wild boar. Isn't it beautiful?" Lisko took out the wild boar tooth on the shelf and showed it to Megan.

"I bought this in Chinatown. It's called a gourd. In ancient China, it was generally used as a portable kettle and wine flask. It also means blessing. I wish you many sons and grandsons."

"That one over there is a sword used by ancient Chinese cavalry, called Tang Dao. It was custom-made and scaled down, so it looks very small."

Lisko took out another stone and said, "This is called Xun. It is an ancient Asian musical instrument with a history of more than 7,000 years."

Lisko recalled "Original Scenery of Hometown", a representative song for the xun instrument.

Lisko covered the black spots on it, and a leisurely and fresh sound sounded from the xun. Megan held her chin and listened to Lisko's playing, and her heart became broader, as if she was on a hillside with water flowing below.

There was a small river, beautiful flowers around me, and birds flying in front of my eyes. Listening to the music, I suddenly had feelings for nature and mountains.

Lisko only played part of the performance and walked out leisurely. Megan clapped beside him, "Every time I think you are good enough, but it doesn't take long for you to tell me that you can be even better."

Lisko waved his hand shyly, "Shall we go out to eat? It's ready." After saying that, he suddenly remembered that he took out the fans arranged in a transparent box from the display cabinet. This happened to be a set of twenty-four solar terms fans.

"This is for you. This is a twenty-four solar term fan, a set of twenty-four. The twenty-four solar terms are unique to China. In ancient times, they were used to guide agricultural production and let people predict cold, warm, snow, and rain."

Meghan opened the box and couldn't put it down when she looked at the colorful fans and the exquisite seasonal paintings on them.

"Thank you, I like it very much."

Arriving in the kitchen, Lisko asked Megan to sit down, served the soup that had been simmering for a long time, filled the rice, and asked Megan mysteriously, "Are you ready?"

Megan smiled and cooperated, "Yeah, I'm looking forward to it."

He quickly opened all the covered dishes.

"Wow, it smells very good. What is this called?"

Lisko introduced it to her one by one, "This is called potato goulash. It is made with potatoes, beef, and carrots. It originated in Hungary and flowed to China. It was improved by the Chinese and became a home-cooked dish for them."

"This is scrambled eggs with tomatoes. It is fried with tomatoes and eggs. It is more appetizing, and the Chinese believe that this dish can beautify and anti-aging." Meghan's eyes were already shining at the introduction.

"This is called crucian carp head tofu soup. It is cooked with fish heads and tofu. It is stewed for a long time. The Chinese believe that the longer the soup is cooked, the more nutritional value it has. Tofu is a unique food in Asia. It is made from soybeans. This dish is particularly suitable for it.

Women contain a lot of trace elements and can also protect blood vessels."

Because Americans often eat high-calorie foods, many people have vascular diseases. They like soy-based foods. The reason why they are not used to Chinese food is because it is too troublesome to cook. They always fry steaks simply and crudely.

, making salads, or hamburger sandwiches.

After speaking, Lisko filled a bowl of soup for her with a spoon, handed it to her, and waited for her evaluation.

The white fish soup was in a small green bowl, which looked like a bowl of milk. Meghan smelled the taste tentatively and found it was acceptable. She took a spoonful of it and drank it.

"How is it?" Lisko looked at her nervously.

“Good, great, I fall in love with this soup.”

Lisko breathed a sigh of relief. He was actually quite worried that these would not be to their liking. He was a Chinese at heart and would accept it without any hindrance. He didn't know if others would also like it.

Li Ke taught Megan how to mix potato and beef stew soup with rice. The potatoes were glutinous and soft, the beef was chewy, and the rice was fragrant. Megan ate several bowls at once. The scrambled eggs with tomatoes were also well received. They were sour and sweet.

The taste is very to her liking.
