Lord of Industrialization
Chapter 502 Delivering goods
Theoretically, it takes two days for the Salmon 108 to sail from Amstel to Weissenburg, but passengers have to be picked up and dropped off along the way. Finally, it arrived outside Weissenburg at noon on the third day.
When the captain informed him that the ship was ready to dock, Baron Turgot was on the platform on the top of the cabin, watching the bronze statue on the original site of the blacksmith shop slowly move behind him.
His first impression of the Principality of Weissen was that there were many bridges on the river, some built and some under construction, and he couldn't count them all the way here.
The second impression was that there were many boats, some with oars, some with sails, and some with water wheels at the stern. All kinds of boats came and went on the river.
In front of them was a large paddle steamer with a water wheel on the side, and five empty hulls with a strange appearance were towed behind. These hulls were built in the shipyard of Amstel and pulled here to install equipment.
The port at the east end of the Carolina Canal is still very lively, because the docks on the moat in the south of the city began to give way to urban expansion and are now much larger than when Fatih came last year.
The loudspeaker at the port kept broadcasting the news of ships entering and leaving the port. When the ship docked, you could see dock workers in uniform running to the dock to unload the cargo.
Baron Turgot, like all tourists who came to Weissenburg for the first time, was silent for a long time as he looked at the "Emperor's Wonder" towering into the sky in the distance.
Dafranche began to get busy. He first negotiated with the tax officer who came on board, then got off the ship and talked to the foreman of the porters wearing a white hat. Soon, four loaded tricycles came.
The sailors on the ship opened the top of the cargo hold, and the crane on the dock lifted the cargo to the dock.
The water tanks for Dafranche's oysters weighed more than two tons, with a rack underneath, and were directly lifted onto the loaded tricycles.
Baron Turgot and his servants went through the customs clearance procedures and waited for Dafranche outside the port. He said he could arrange a place for long-term accommodation.
Then he saw a tricycle coming from a distance. There was a rough wooden rack on the car, and a fish as tall as a person was hung on the rack, which looked to weigh more than 100 kilograms.
Next to the shelf sat two children, a boy and a girl, who looked like they were of southern descent, and both looked very excited.
Richardnal recognized Baron Turgot, waved his hand, and continued to slowly embark on the long journey home.
Baron Turgot had heard about Richardnal, but when he saw it with his own eyes, he still didn't know what to say, so he just smiled back.
At this time, Dafranche came over in a tricycle, got off the car to help Baron Turgot and the servants load the luggage, and then took the cart to the west along the canal.
Davranche said to Baron Turgot: "That is the Iris Community. The landlords are all nobles of the Kingdom of Gaul. Most of us who come here to make a living settle there, so that everyone can take care of each other."
Baron Turgot asked him: "How many Gauls are there here?"
Davranche thought for a while and said: "I heard that there are two or three thousand people. There are hundreds of people who come to school. Some people live in Weissembourg City, and many people are in other places. There are more than a thousand people in the community."
"Most of those who come here are doing business, fewer are going to school, and some are working as chefs, painters, translators, etc."
Baron Turgot nodded. His student became a screenwriter and now draws comic strips with several people.
Davranche continued: "The World Expo will be held next month. The hotels in the city have been booked out long ago, and we still have some places there."
Baron Turgot nodded again. The student told this in his reply and said that he could stay at his place, so he only brought one servant with him.
We soon arrived at the Iris Community, where there were four- or five-story buildings. The first floor could be used as a shop, restaurant, and workshop, and people lived upstairs.
The storefront of Davranche was carved out from a bakery and opened separately.
This bakery specializes in producing bread that can be used as weapons in the Kingdom of Gaul, and the owner is also from Le Havre.
The bakery owner came over to salute Baron Turgot immediately after seeing him. He was helping the landlord manage the building, and immediately asked his wife to take the children upstairs to clean up the empty floors.
Davranche disappeared for a few minutes, called a few people, first moved the air pump down, and then took out a lot of buckets of different sizes from the shop, with names written on them, and began to pack the oysters and seawater on the tricycle into the buckets.
Baron Turgot asked the servants to move the luggage upstairs and arrange it, and he watched Davranche and his friends busy with interest.
Not long after, there was a "bang bang" sound in the distance, and a brown-haired woman wearing a leather jacket, leather pants and a helmet stopped her sidecar three-wheeler in front of the store.
Davranche went over immediately and said respectfully: "Why are you here? I was just thinking of sending it to you later."
Psyche took off her helmet and hung it on the rearview mirror, got off the car, and said when she walked to the water tank: "I tried the new car today, and I thought you should be back, so I stopped by to see you."
Davranche stared at her sidecar three-wheeler, and his saliva was about to flow out.
Psyche looked at the oysters transported back this time and said with satisfaction: "Not bad, the survival rate this time is 98%, it seems that this method is effective."
"Bring the bucket and I will choose it myself, and come to settle the bill at the end of the month."
"Hurry up and send Branimir's share, send more, he is treating today."
Davranche immediately brought two galvanized iron buckets to Psyche.
Psyche had some of each oyster picked, put the bucket in the sidecar and left.
Baron Turgot didn't know Psyche and thought she was a relative of some noble family. She sounded like a regular customer of Davranche, so he didn't bother her doing business.
Davranche quickly distributed the oysters. He filled the buckets of regular customers with seawater and oysters. He filled a small half box of various oysters in a water tank and connected it to an air pump. The two empty water tanks were moved into the shop and the remaining oysters were kept inside.
Then he was going to take the tricycle team to deliver goods door to door, and Baron Turgot followed to see.
The team took a detour, and Davranche carried a bag of oysters to an exotic barbecue restaurant to give it to the proprietress and chatted for a few words.
Baron Turgot asked him curiously: "Are you pursuing that girl?"
"No!" Davranche shook his head hurriedly, "I was robbed half a month ago, and she and her boyfriend happened to pass by. It was her boyfriend who saved me."
He is still scared now. At that time, he was holding money and preparing to go to Amstel City to purchase goods. If he had been robbed, he would probably be sweeping the streets now.
"Oh, right!" He remembered something, "You said you wanted to investigate agricultural projects. The boss's boyfriend runs a chicken farm. You can go and have a look."
Baron Turgot came here to investigate and learn how to increase the agricultural income of the territory, and Dafranche recommended the chicken farm.
"Who was that lady just now?" Baron Turgot asked, "Does her family have any agricultural projects?"
The only local person he knew was a fisherman. If he wanted to see the agricultural situation here, he had to find a breakthrough through his acquaintances in Dafranche.
Dafranche replied: "She is the teacher of the Grand Duke of Wessen, the president of the Wessen Scientific Society, Lady Psyche."
"When I first came here, I brought two barrels of oysters, most of which died, and I almost cried to death outside the port."
"At that time, Lady Psyche happened to pass by and said that the oysters were not bad, so she bought all the living ones and taught me how to keep more oysters alive."
"I went there again, and this time more than half of them survived, and that's how the business started."
Baron Turgot sighed in his heart, this guy is really lucky, he met a noble person to help him.
