Mastering Lightning from Hogwarts
#3 - Professor McGonagall
After reading the letter in detail, Anduin stroked his chin and glanced at the owl on the windowsill. "You're waiting for me to reply, aren't you? Too bad I've never had a pet before, so I don't have anything good to treat you with."
The owl on the windowsill continued to stare at Anduin with dead fish eyes.
"Alright, I'll write back now," Anduin shrugged and picked up the paper and pen on the desk to write a reply, expressing in a very sincere tone that he was very happy to attend Hogwarts, but regrettably stating that he had never been exposed to the magical world and that he was an orphan, asking if they could provide him with some assistance.
After writing the reply, Anduin sealed it in a brand new envelope and handed it to the owl. The owl on the windowsill very skillfully took the envelope, attached it to itself, and flew away without looking back.
"Ho, quite aloof. I wonder what the magical world is like at this time. Did Voldemort get killed by Harry?" Anduin only had a slight impression of "Harry Potter." It seemed that Voldemort failed to kill Harry when he was young and was instead killed by Harry's counterattack, but Anduin was really clueless about the state of the magical world in 1980.
"Don't think too much, just wait for Hogwarts' reply. Strength is the foundation in any world, and becoming stronger is definitely not wrong." With that thought, he continued with his studies for the day. Anduin had arranged a very tight exercise program for himself during the summer vacation at the orphanage: warm-up, boxing, stance training, aerobic exercise, meditation, and training his "telekinesis"—now magic—were all proceeding in an orderly manner.
With a disciplined life, time always passed quickly. Not long after receiving his Hogwarts acceptance letter, an uninvited guest came to find Anduin.
"Are you saying that you are Professor McGonagall from Hogwarts?" Anduin asked the middle-aged woman who appeared at the door of his room. This woman, who claimed to be Professor McGonagall, wore square glasses, had black hair curled into a high bun, and wore a dark green robe.
"That's right, I am Minerva McGonagall, the Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts. I saw your reply, Mr. Wilson. We will conduct visits to Muggle families who have not been exposed to the magical world." Professor McGonagall possibly suddenly thought of Anduin's background, and added, "Of course, also young gentlemen like you who live independently."
"Won't you invite me in to sit down, Mr. Wilson?"
"Oh, no, I'm sorry, Professor McGonagall, please come in. I just haven't fully digested the whole magical school thing yet." Anduin apologized and moved aside, inviting Professor McGonagall in.
As soon as she entered the room, Professor McGonagall began to observe. The entire room was not large, with a bed, a set of tables and chairs, a desk connected to a bookshelf, a cabinet, a coat rack, and several dumbbells neatly placed in the corner. The bed was made neatly, and there was a pot of… if she wasn't mistaken, it was a pot of scallions?
The tidy room and clean, refreshing atmosphere gave Professor McGonagall a good impression of Anduin. After all, this was a sudden visit, which proved that this freshman was usually very disciplined.
"Sorry, Professor McGonagall, the room is quite simple." Anduin apologized to Professor McGonagall and went to move the only chair in the room.
"Don't be polite, Anduin, you don't mind me calling you that, do you? I've prepared my own chair." With that, Professor McGonagall took out her wand from her robe and pointed it at the dumbbell by the wall. The dumbbell instantly transformed into a wooden chair and gently sat down.
Anduin was also taken aback by Professor McGonagall's move. After all, seeing it on TV was not the same as experiencing it in person. However, he did not lose his composure, pulled out a chair, and sat down facing Professor McGonagall.
"I saw that the reply was required by July 31st. I thought I would only receive a reply or visit in August."
"That's mainly for children from many wizarding families. We will visit children who have not been exposed to the magical world in advance, and the current magical world is quite sensitive…" Professor McGonagall hesitated, but did not talk too much about it and went straight to the point.
"Children with magical talent will be notified of enrollment at the appropriate age. Hogwarts will teach underage wizards how to control and use magic very well. I believe you should have felt some special things happening around you in recent years. Underage wizards will gradually awaken their magic power, and sometimes even produce magical surges."
Anduin nodded after hearing this, waved his hand, and a cup floated in front of him.
Professor McGonagall was secretly shocked by this scene. Was he able to freely master the Levitation Charm? It should be known that this was wordless and wandless casting. "Mr. Anduin, are you sure you haven't learned or been taught magic before?"
"Yes, Professor McGonagall. When I discovered that I was different from others, I started practicing slowly, through meditation and the like. I thought it was a special ability. That's what we ordinary people call it. Of course, that's all. I can't do something like turning a dumbbell into a chair like you did," Anduin said.
"You will learn it at Hogwarts." After hearing Anduin's words, Professor McGonagall became more and more satisfied with this underage wizard. Self-discipline, diligence, and effort were all good qualities for a wizarding talent. Suddenly thinking of the current chaos in the magical world and the darkness lurking in the shadows, she couldn't help but feel a little anxious.
"Anduin, I am very pleased to see you working so hard. Let's set off quickly. Our time is tight. We need to coordinate with the orphanage and take you to prepare the things you need for school in advance."
Professor McGonagall was decisive and efficient to an outrageous degree. After communicating with the orphanage's higher-ups separately, she quickly handled Anduin's schooling matters with the orphanage. Anduin suspected that Professor McGonagall must have used some magic, as the orphanage did not raise any questions.
"Did you use magic when communicating with Sister Therese and the others? They agreed so readily," Anduin couldn't help but ask.
"A little Confundus Charm, which helps to improve efficiency, doesn't it?" Professor McGonagall rarely showed a slightly playful smile. "Don't worry, this will not have any adverse effects on them, and they will not forget you. You can still return here during your vacations."
"Okay, next I will take you to buy the supplies you need for school. Given your situation, I have applied for a scholarship for needy students for you from the school board, which can provide a subsidy of 12 Galleons per year."
"Oh, by the way, Galleons are the currency of the wizarding world. One Galleon can be exchanged for seventeen Silver Sickles, and one Silver Sickle can be exchanged for twenty-nine Knuts."
Is it fair to say that it is Britain, even currency exchange is so painful, Anduin has a headache.
