Mastering Lightning from Hogwarts
#413 - Unlimited Self-Defense Proof (asking for monthly ticket recommendation ticket)
“So what do you think we should do next? I’m happy to fully cooperate.”
Anduin really wanted to get a list of Wizengamot members from Bartemius, and then visit them one by one. Whether through subtle threats or outright control, it would be a more convenient way to achieve his goals. But that would only push everyone to his side, and might even attract Dumbledore's attention. So he wasn't ready to do that kind of thing, or rather, not ready to do too much of it.
“I’ll find Dumbledore first and discuss our strategy with him. His influence is a great asset in itself. At the same time, I plan to ask him to personally extract evidence from Sirius’s memory. We'll start with the easy parts first. I'll try to gain the support of the Order of Merlin, and then deal with the more stubborn members of the Wizengamot.”
Having said that, Bartemius gave Anduin a pointed look, “As for you, there are two things I need you to do. If you can accomplish either of them, clearing Sirius’s name will become very simple.”
“Oh? What are they?” Anduin immediately perked up at the words, looking at Bartemius intently.
“The first is to find Peter Pettigrew. He was the culprit who indirectly killed the Potters, and it was because of him that Sirius was imprisoned. As long as we arrest him, we can prove Black's innocence. This is irrefutable evidence. No matter how unwilling the Wizengamot and those pure-blood families are, they won't be able to refute it.” Bartemius said in a measured tone.
“I understand, but Peter Pettigrew could be anywhere right now. I can't foresee the future, so finding him won't be easy.” Anduin said with some melancholy.
“I understand that as well, so we can strive for it through another matter.” Bartemius smiled slightly upon hearing this.
“Another matter?” He raised an eyebrow in confusion, “What is it?”
“That is to assist Scamander in finding the Silver Spears' hideout.” Bartemius said, giving Anduin a serious look. “Mr. Scamander mentioned this to me. The Order of Merlin knows that you have a chance to track down that lost Thunderbird. If we can really follow that lead to find those Silver Spears, it will be of great significance to us.”
“But what does this have to do with Sirius’s case?” Anduin was a little confused. How did it get to the Silver Spears?
“If you can accomplish this, you can use it to make a deal with the Wizengamot to release Sirius. The Order of Merlin will fully support your decision.” Bartemius boasted.
Anduin was immediately shocked. Is the Silver Spears' headquarters, or rather its leader, that attractive? Does it have such great charm that the Wizengamot and the Order of Merlin are so interested in him that they are even willing to overturn a previous verdict for it?
“Are you sure?” Anduin asked in disbelief. He was already planning to deal with the Silver Spears, and had even made plans, so this was simply a win-win situation for him.
“Yes, I'm very sure. If you can really do all of this, the Wizengamot will definitely approve it immediately. Of course, we will try to resolve Sirius's case through conventional channels as much as possible, and only resort to this as a last resort.”
“But even if we really overturn the case through our efforts, we hope you can help. Of course, I understand the dangers involved. In addition to Mr. Scamander's side, the Ministry of Magic will also give you assistance. And because it involves overseas activities, I can even issue you a special [Unlimited Self-Defense Certificate].”
“Unlimited Self-Defense Certificate? What’s that?” Anduin asked strangely. He knew a lot about the Ministry of Magic, but he had never heard of such a thing.
“The so-called [Unlimited Self-Defense Certificate]…” Minister Bartemius looked at Anduin with a strange expression, “is a document that, when held, means that your identity is that of a law enforcement officer specially approved by the British Ministry of Magic. When faced with someone posing a violent threat to you, you can retaliate without limit, including killing the other party.”
“And in the international wizarding world, holding this certificate can avoid being arrested by local authorities, because all your actions are permitted and supported by the British Ministry of Magic.”
Oh, Anduin understood immediately and nodded. In short, it was a 'license to kill'. If someone died abroad, the Ministry of Magic would back him up. That was a good thing.
“Of course, the issuance process for this kind of document is very strict and of great importance, and I will bear considerable pressure. You have to think carefully.” Bartemius seemed to think that what he had just promised was too dangerous, and immediately started to hedge.
“I understand what you mean.” Anduin nodded with a serious expression. “I can promise you that no matter how Sirius’s case progresses, I will do my best to accomplish this. I don’t have any good feelings towards the Silver Spears myself.”
“That's good, but you don't have to rush. Establishing a mental connection with magical creatures is not easy in the first place. This is just a guess.” Bartemius's expression lit up after receiving Anduin's guarantee, and he was obviously very concerned about this matter.
“No, I have a hunch that this will definitely succeed.” Anduin had an inscrutable expression on his face. “As long as you give me about a year, I will have a way to find the Silver Spears’ tracks.”
“Really?” Although Bartemius had confidence in Anduin, he was a little hesitant when he saw him so sure.
However, Anduin didn't respond to this, just curled the corner of his mouth slightly, revealing a meaningful smile.
He naturally had a way to find the other party. Even if the mental connection with the Thunderbird didn't work, he had other plans. He had been planning for a long time to deal with this Silver Spears.
After ending his conversation with Minister Bartemius, Anduin left the Ministry of Magic. Bartemius also gathered Amelia and Moody to inform them of this matter in advance.
“What? You mean… Sirius is really innocent? Are you sure? Don't be fooled!” Amelia knew something about the relationship between the Minister and Anduin, but she had always been pessimistic about Sirius and had never thought that the other party might be innocent.
“I said, Sirius originally behaved extremely well, how could he suddenly turn into another face? As for acting, I don't think it's very likely. Black is not a person who knows how to hide his emotions.” Moody relied on his understanding of Sirius and was the first to accept this result.
“That's right, I was at the scene at the time, and I can tell what is false and what is real.” Bartemius affirmed.
