Mastering Lightning from Hogwarts

#645 - Destructive mental compensation (asking for monthly ticket recommendation)

"Now that you're in, just find a place to sit, don't stand on ceremony." Anduin gestured around the tidy space, then casually settled onto a wooden vaulting horse, shedding all pretense of his earlier seriousness.

Anduin's relaxed demeanor eased the tension, and the rest of the group followed suit, casually sitting down around him on the floor.

"Professor, how… how is this place so big? Did you build all this?" Hermione asked, her eyes sweeping across the vast indoor space in amazement.

"Indeed, this is just Training Room One, the least dangerous. Once construction is complete, I'll consider opening it to the whole school," Anduin said, waving his hand. "That way, you can practice freely here in the future."

With that, Anduin even pointed around, introducing the various areas to the gathered first-years. "The pool in the distance is the swimming training area, that area filled with punching bags is the reaction training area, that spot filled with fencing foils is the combat training area, and where you're all sitting now is the comprehensive physical training area. Each training area looks connected, but they're actually separated by air walls. Only authorized personnel can enter."

"Wow, will we be having classes here in the future?" Compared to the menacing grounds outside, Ron clearly preferred this place; at least it was much cleaner.

"The first-year courses will mainly be here," Anduin said with a smile. "You've only just started school, haven't even learned any spells yet, and your physical fitness hasn't been developed. You can't handle high-intensity training just yet. I imagine today's long run has already exhausted you, right?"

The young wizards present immediately nodded in agreement. They still felt sore all over, which was precisely why they were so terrified of the afternoon's training session.

Anduin nodded nonchalantly, seeing their reactions. "So, for the first month of school, I won't be adding too much burden. Exhausting your bodies will only cause more trouble. Your most important tasks right now are to keep up with morning runs and eat well, to improve your physical fitness. Formal training will begin once you can complete the entire morning exercise routine."

"So, what are we doing now? Is it a theory lesson?" Hermione, sensing Anduin's amiable attitude, spoke up without even raising her hand.

"Tactical training theory is still too advanced for you," Anduin said, shaking his head slightly.

The curriculum he created was never intended for underage wizards. The content was more suitable for Aurors. Therefore, the lower the year, the less theory they needed to learn. What's the point of explaining tactical formations or crossfire to them?

"Ah?" Hearing Anduin's words, Hermione pouted in disappointment. She had specifically reviewed the textbook content last night for today's class. Although she didn't understand any of the technical terms, she had still memorized a lot of it by rote.

But Anduin suddenly changed the subject. "Speaking of theoretical knowledge, there is one thing I need to clarify with you in advance. Gryffindor and Slytherin have Charms class this morning. Professor Flitwick should have already explained the Levitation Charm to you."

"Yes, Professor! Professor Flitwick also said that our most important task in the first month is to learn this spell. But since we just learned it today, not many of us have cast it successfully."

Harry nodded in response, this being the first time he had spoken directly to Mr. Wilson.

"I see."

Anduin nodded slightly, having previously requested Flitwick to move the Levitation Charm lesson forward. Although the spells learned in Charms class were generally the same each year, the order of instruction depended on Flitwick's mood.

"Does anyone here know the Levitation Charm now?" Anduin asked, smiling at the group.

Hermione immediately and excitedly raised her right hand high, afraid Anduin wouldn't notice her if she was too slow, though that was unnecessary.

Because, besides Hermione, no one else raised their hand. Although some had cast the spell successfully in the previous class, they couldn't guarantee 100% success.

Hermione's action caused Ron to roll his eyes again. Why did she have to show off so much?

"Very good! Gryffindor gains 5 points." Anduin nodded with satisfaction, then took out a small metal ball from his pocket. "You should all recognize this, right?"

"That's… a sensing orb? The teaching aid we needed to buy from the school list!" Perhaps because of the recently awarded points, Hermione excitedly answered immediately.

"Correct, come… Miss Granger, try using the Levitation Charm on it." Anduin gently tossed the sensing orb, which then hovered in front of Hermione.

"Wingardium Leviosa!"

Hermione lived up to her reputation as a top student in Gryffindor. Her wand movement and incantation were perfectly accurate, and she immediately took control of the sensing orb.

The young wizards from the four houses quietly watched Hermione cast the spell, completely clueless as to Anduin's intentions.

"How is it?" Anduin asked, smiling at the girl in front of him. "Can you feel any difference between casting the spell on the sensing orb and casting it on a feather in Charms class?"

Hermione controlled the small ball, making it float above her head, then frowned. "This sensing orb… why is it so difficult to control? It feels a bit… a bit slippery!"

After thinking for a while, Hermione finally found a relatively accurate adjective.

"Very good, it seems you have a talent for perception." Anduin nodded appreciatively. "This sensing orb is a special training tool. Its surface is coated with a magic-resistant layer, and it's also equipped with an irregular displacement device inside."

"So, when casting a spell on it, you'll find the sensing orb extremely difficult to control. What you need to do is to continuously cast spells on it after learning the Levitation Charm, then control it and persist as long as possible."

"This will allow you to exercise your magic perception and control while continuously outputting magic!"

Hermione felt she couldn't hold on any longer after nearly a minute, and the sensing orb began to fall to the ground. Just as it was about to land, it suddenly experienced a suction force, and the small ball flew straight back into Anduin's hand.

"This is a method to train magic perception and control? Doesn't that mean this kind of training can improve magic sensitivity, which is intelligence?" Hermione asked, looking slightly dejected after failing to persist, but quickly reacting.

"Correct, just as Miss Granger guessed, this training can indeed improve intelligence. This is the core principle of the training method," Anduin said, nodding in agreement.

"So, besides sticking to the morning exercise every day, you also need to learn the Levitation Charm as soon as possible. The sooner you learn this basic spell, the sooner you can start training your intelligence!"

"Ah? Is training intelligence that simple?"

The young wizards present immediately began to excitedly discuss among themselves. They had long wanted to know how to improve their intelligence, and they didn't expect Anduin to teach everyone the trick in the first class.

"Indeed! This is the basic training method for training magic sensitivity." Anduin tossed the sensing orb in his hand. "But don't think this is a particularly easy thing to do."

Anduin changed the subject. "If you really want to achieve the effect of improving magic sensitivity, you can't just cast a spell on the sensing orb casually. The most critical point is 'destructive mental compensation'!"

"Destructive mental compensation?" Everyone looked puzzled at this extremely unfamiliar term.

"The so-called 'destructive mental compensation,' simply put, is to squeeze your magic and spirit as much as possible when casting a spell, until you are completely exhausted and can't hold on any longer."

"After your magic recovers, you will directly feel your spirit slowly growing stronger. This is most obvious when you first start practicing. If you just cast a spell casually for a minute or two, it won't have much effect."

In fact, this concept is similar to fitness. High-intensity strength training causes friction damage to muscle fibers during the contraction and relaxation process, which then leads to muscle growth after protein repair.

Training magic is actually similar. The key is to overload, but not too much, otherwise it will cause injury. Therefore, how to moderately grasp the amount is the most important part of the training method.

"Therefore, after you have fully mastered the Levitation Charm, you need to undergo a complete sensitivity training session under my supervision to determine the limit time before you can practice on your own."

"Of course, consistent perseverance is also very important. My suggestion is to train once every day before going to bed, so as not to affect you from doing other things. After all, overdrawing magic is not an easy thing."

Anduin not only explained the training methods and precautions clearly, but also gave his own suggestions on training habits.

"If we all learn the Levitation Charm in the next class, can we all do this training?"

Neville looked at Anduin with shining eyes. His intelligence was too low, so he especially wanted to improve this attribute.

"If you can all learn it in the next class, there's really no problem." Then he turned to look at Hermione in the front row. "But to achieve this goal, I suggest you ask the students who have already learned it for advice."

Hermione knew that Anduin was talking about her, so she immediately raised her head proudly, which couldn't help but provoke Ron's constant eye-rolling.

"You just said that this is a basic training method, does that mean there are higher-level training methods?" Harry, whose intelligence had reached ★★☆, asked greedily. He thought that intelligence was his only advantage, so he especially wanted to develop his strengths.

"Indeed." Anduin smiled slightly, then showed the sensing orb in his hand again.
