Mastering Lightning from Hogwarts
#695 - Quirrell's Choice
"That's not an excuse you can use to prevaricate; I need to recover my strength!" Voldemort coldly interrupted Quirrell, "Besides, your current body probably won't last much longer. I advise you to be honest with me and find a way to get that Philosopher's Stone!"
"Yes, Master!" Quirrell hurriedly replied, "I've already found a breakthrough, and that is Hagrid! I will definitely be able to get a solution to deal with that three-headed dog from him!"
"But…" Quirrell paused, "I still need you to grant me some more power to ensure I can last until then. Also, I need to save some strength to deal with the trouble after the three-headed dog! I don't believe Anduin only arranged for this one guard."
"Then enter the Forbidden Forest and hunt unicorns; their blood can temporarily restore my power!" Voldemort's cold voice echoed in Quirrell's ears.
"Unicorns?" Quirrell was shocked. Although the blood of such creatures could provide life force, it was cursed life! Once he touched that stuff, wouldn't he have no room for maneuver?
"What? Are you still fantasizing about betraying me?" Voldemort seemed to sense a shift in Quirrell's thoughts and immediately roared in his mind.
This soul-piercing roar caused Quirrell to break out in a cold sweat. His entire brain felt as if it had been twisted into a ball, and the pain instantly shattered his psychological defenses!
"I'm sorry, Master! I shouldn't have questioned your decision. Please forgive me!" Quirrell wailed in pain, clutching his head, but the pain continued for nearly a minute before gradually fading away.
"Your fate is now intertwined with mine; you better abandon those unrealistic fantasies! I need to rest now, but I will be watching you from the depths of your soul!"
The punishment inflicted on Quirrell seemed to have cost Voldemort a lot of strength, and he slowly subsided afterward.
"Huff…"
After Voldemort fell silent, Quirrell suddenly relaxed and breathed a long sigh of relief.
But soon, all sorts of worries about the future surfaced in his mind, and the emergence of these thoughts almost startled him into another cold sweat.
However, the normal flow of his thoughts proved to him that Voldemort had indeed gone dormant, which finally put him at ease.
"Hunting unicorns, stealing the Philosopher's Stone, I have a feeling that doing this won't end well!"
"But my life and death are entirely at the whim of the Master. Do I really have any other options?"
Fear! Anxiety! Irritation!
Various emotions churned in his mind, causing Quirrell to fall into entanglement for a while.
Everything that happened today really scared him, the sudden appearance of the Dark Mark, the attackers wearing Death Eater masks.
He even exchanged blows with one or two of them, although it was while muddling through in the Great Hall.
Who would have thought that all of this was just a so-called exercise? But he was almost scared out of his wits.
At this time, he couldn't help but think of that enviable junior. Not only had the other party achieved admirable accomplishments, but he was now so powerful that Quirrell couldn't even understand him.
The most enviable thing about Anduin for Quirrell was his clear mind.
He always seemed to know what he should do, what he shouldn't touch, and was always in control.
"Initiative, what a distant word for me. If only I hadn't gone to that damned Albania, and hadn't allowed myself to be blinded by greed…"
Quirrell fell into remorseful self-blame for a while, especially when he thought that the one controlling his life and death was the currently weak Voldemort, while on the other side were the powerful Dumbledore and Anduin.
"But now, besides obeying orders, is there any other way?" Quirrell sighed sorrowfully.
But soon, a thought suddenly popped into his mind that frightened him, while lost in his thoughts.
"Perhaps… he has a way to solve all of this for me?"
Quirrell muttered to himself uncertainly, but quickly shook his head violently, "No, I'm dead if the Master finds out. It would be as easy as pie for him to execute me."
"But if I really act according to the Master's plan, it seems like I won't have a good ending either." Quirrell was just timid and had no opinions of his own, but he wasn't an idiot.
"Casting a curse on Harry Potter's flying broom according to the Master's words has already aroused Snape's suspicion. Do I really have a chance to steal the Philosopher's Stone?"
Quirrell felt like his head was about to explode. Almost all the paths in front of him were dead ends.
"Damn it, if Anduin didn't exist, I might really go down a dark path, but he…"
"Can he give me more possibilities?"
"Perhaps I should try, just while the Master is dormant."
"But I might be captured on the spot, and that guy has never been soft on dark wizards."
"Or, can I try to probe him? I don't necessarily have to tell him everything!"
For a time, Quirrell fell into a battle between heaven and man. His brain seemed to split into two halves, one of which constantly emphasized the consequences of betraying Voldemort, which might be more miserable than death.
The other half kept issuing similar self-confessing exhortations. He was actually also a victim! Why should he bear all of this?
Such troubles tormented Quirrell all night. Until the next day, he was still deeply trapped in this chaotic mental state, causing his Defense Against the Dark Arts class that day to be intermittent, which made him almost a laughing stock in the eyes of all the young wizards.
"If I really want to get rid of all this, I have to make a decision within three days. When the Master's dormancy ends, it will be terrible if he detects my deep memories!"
Quirrell muttered to himself as he wandered aimlessly in the corridors of the main tower.
When he came to his senses, he was suddenly startled because he didn't know when, but he had accidentally come to the front of the 'Tactical Training Studies' office!
"Damn it, I must not provoke Anduin at this time, otherwise I'm dead!" Quirrell cursed himself and then prepared to turn around and leave.
But at this moment, the office door behind him actually opened so coincidentally.
Anduin, who poked his head out from inside, was also a little surprised to see Quirrell appearing in front of the door.
This guy should be hiding from me like a rat in the sewer now, could yesterday's exercise have backfired? Did it stimulate Quirrell, who had already joined the Death Eater ranks?
Quirrell and Anduin met so suddenly in a situation that neither of them was prepared for, and both of them looked at each other with some embarrassment.
"Uh, good afternoon! Professor Wilson!" Although he had cursed Anduin hundreds of times in his heart, Quirrell could only take the initiative to greet him politely at this time.
There was no way, since he had bumped into him, he had to find a way to deal with it first. Wasn't this bastard usually on that ship? Why did he appear at this time?
And because it was too sudden, Quirrell didn't even realize that he had forgotten the stuttering tone he used to play.
"Good afternoon, Senior Quirrell." Anduin's mentality was much calmer than Quirrell's. He had only promised Dumbledore that he would not take the initiative to contact the other party, but it wasn't like he couldn't even talk to him.
"You still call me Anduin as before, isn't it too formal and doesn't seem alienating? We didn't have so many constraints when we were in school before."
Anduin also heard that Quirrell's current situation was a bit abnormal, so he instinctively tried to get closer.
"Yes, Anduin, after so many years, I always feel that you haven't changed at all, it's as if you had an adult in your head from the beginning…"
Perhaps Anduin's calmness made him feel that he hadn't revealed any flaws.
Or perhaps it was because the pressure he had been under was too great, Quirrell, who gradually relaxed, didn't know why he was a bit talkative.
"You don't look too good. Have you encountered something troubling? If you don't mind, you can share it with me. Maybe I can help you. After all, we've been friends for so many years!"
Anduin noticed Quirrell's abnormal performance and couldn't help but try to test him. He wasn't some pedantic old man who only knew how to peep silently in the dark.
"This…"
Quirrell was a little moved when he heard this, but the cowardly side in his mind kept jumping out, preventing him from doing anything impulsive.
But this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was in front of him, and it seemed a bit wasteful to miss it for nothing. After all, Anduin was still being very friendly, wasn't he?
After pondering for a moment, Quirrell couldn't help but blurt out, "I have indeed been troubled by something for a long time recently."
"Do you want to come in and sit down? You don't seem to have been to my office before?" Anduin naturally climbed up the pole immediately when he heard this, slightly sideways to make way for a path.
Looking at the narrow passage beside Anduin, Quirrell felt as if he had come to a crossroads of his destiny.
This advance and retreat may determine his future!
Quirrell took a deep breath without showing any signs, and then gritted his teeth and mustered all his courage to walk in.
The other party's posture, as if he was going up a mountain of knives and down a sea of fire, made Anduin stunned.
What's the situation? I wasn't even prepared to turn hostile, why is it like I'm going to kill you?
However, Anduin also guessed that something might have happened to the other party, and now was a good opportunity to find out, so naturally, he couldn't let it go.
"Anduin…" After entering the office and sitting down, Quirrell took the initiative to speak without waiting for the other party to ask.
"I know that although you are not very old, you are already a renowned alchemist at home and abroad. I wonder if you have any props or methods that can isolate the prying of 'Legilimency'?"
Quirrell wasn't crazy, it was impossible to directly tell Anduin such an outrageous thing as being possessed by Voldemort, and he didn't intend to be honest with the other party, so he really sought help.
