Mortal Mirror

Fish City was a scene of devastation. The ancient well had been sealed off. The disappearances of Bai Su and Li Ergou were classified as a major incident, alarming even the chief constable, Li Tianhai, and the garrison commander.

Both had descended into the ancient well, but the underground water cave system had over a hundred branches. Unable to be everywhere at once, they had no choice but to give up, reporting the matter to the prefect. The prefect then reported it upwards. The outcome depended on the higher-ups.

The night was dark. Only a small crescent moon hung in the sky, its faint light shrouding the earth.

By the ancient well in Fish City, several constables stood guard, preventing anyone from approaching.

Among them, Ye Wanwan was heartbroken, tears streaming down her face.

She looked at Chen Bajin, her voice choked with sobs, "Ergou-ge, where is he?"

Chen Bajin shook his head and sighed. He looked at the ancient well in silence for a moment, then lamented, "Ergou, ah Ergou, you're lucky and have a strong life. This brother doesn't believe you'd die like this. If you really kick the bucket, go in peace. I'll take good care of Jing'er and Mei'er for you."
