Chapter 674 - Worms Nourished By Devouring Immortals

As a wise and cunning man who was thorough with his plans, Yan Shenjun knew there must be other people hiding inside the cave. Hence, he left the strongest of his disciples, Immortal Jue Ming, in the area to finish off whoever was still inside the cave.

Needless to say, having considered every possibility, Yan Shenjun’s arrangement was thorough. Immortal Jue Ming’s sprinting spell was flawless, as Yan Shenjun had taught him well. Should the former come across even profound immortals, he would still be able to escape successfully.

However, what Yan Shenjun failed to foresee was Lin Jin refining his spirit devouring ghost worms and taking over as their new owner.

Based on Yan Shenjun’s understanding, Lin Jin did not possess such capability. Only the unfettered immortal, Curator, did. Even then, Yan Shenjun believed that Curator would exterminate the ghost worms, rather than refine them.

Yan Shenjun was a hundred percent confident about that.

However, outcomes that one would never imagine possible do happen. Once they appear, they would create massive loopholes and mishaps.

Immortal Jue Ming lost his life.

It was a tragic death as the ghost worms gnawed at him until nothing was left. The scene sent chills down Xiang Yun’s spine as she watched.

Then, she performed a method Lin Jin had taught her. By creating a unique cloud of blood, she was able to retrieve the worms. Xiang Yun noticed that although she only released two worms in the beginning, there were three when she summoned them back

This wasn’t an error in mathematics on Xiang Yun’s part because when Lin Jin gave her this blood bead, he specifically said there were only two worms inside.

The two worms had now become three.

This proved that the ghost worms could multiply after eating an immortal. Xiang Yun suspected that if she wanted more ghost worms, she would have to let them devour more immortals.

In other words, one immortal consumed meant one extra ghost worm.

At the thought of this, Xiang Yun felt goosebumps all over.

Lin Jin previously refined seven ghost worms. This meant that seven immortals had to be sacrificed to get these creatures. It was likely that Yan Shenjun had more worms in his possession.

Just how many immortals did Yan Shenjun have to kill to create the spirit devouring ghost worms?

The actual number may be horrifying, and Xiang Yun was terrified by her imagination. She calmed herself down. By now, the three ghost worms had entered the bloody mist, and then the cloud condensed into a blood-red bead.

As Xiang Yun stared at the bead in her hand, she thanked her lucky stars.

‘It’s all thanks to Lin Jin. If it weren’t for him, I’d still be under Yan Shenjun’s control and have no chance at taking revenge.’

Lin Jin was so phenomenal that he could even turn Yan Shenjun’s unique skill into his own.

Straightening herself up, Xiang Yun decided she would follow Lin Jin from now on. Not only for revenge but also for the sake of survival and improving herself.

This was probably the wisest choice she had made thus far.

Then, Xiang Yun looted Immortal Jue Ming’s Universe Ring and magic treasures before performing a flying spell to take her to the Mystery Dao Sect.

Around that time, Lin Jin was standing next to Inferno Monk atop a black cloud. Not too far away from them was Yan Shenjun and his group of immortals.

On the surface, they were now partners and they were heading toward a rather discreet location.

Yan Shenjun had no plans of telling Lin Jin their destination and Lin Jin didn’t ask either. His confidence remained.

This was also a form of probing.

Yan Shenjun had never stopped probing since just now and Lin Jin was aware of it. Hence, he kept up his focus. While it seemed like he was observing the scenery, in his mind, he was considering an array of strategies.

Lin Jin swore he had never been this nervous or thought so hard before.

Yan Shenjun still didn’t bring the oriole to them. It appeared that she was being taken care of by someone else, which indicated how cautious Yan Shenjun was behaving.

This told Lin Jin that Yan Shenjun’s composed demeanor was a facade too.

Interesting!

Inferno Monk didn’t know much of what was going on and he seemed intent on asking. Lin Jin had to keep sending him hand signals. At times, it was better to stay silent and avoid unintentionally exposing one’s weakness.

Fortunately, Inferno Monk was a smart man. Despite his lack of confidence, he knew not to be a hindrance during important times.

Quite frankly, Lin Jin was proceeding without a plan right now. Good thing he had a pawn in Xiang Yun. It was seconds ago that he distinctly felt an energy disturbance in his blood ghost clone.

The scene of Xiang Yun encountering Immortal Jue Ming was projected in Lin Jin’s mind too. This was one of the blood ghost’s unique abilities, even though the amount of information capable of being sensed by Lin Jin was limited.

Those bits were enough for Lin Jin to arrive at several conclusions.

Just as he expected, Yan Shenjun had left a backup to pursue and kill whoever that remained inside the cave. It didn’t matter if that person was Xiang Yun or not, they would all be killed.

Thankfully, in anticipation of this, Lin Jin gave Xiang Yun a blood pill.

Condensed by the blood ghost’s blood, the pill could restrain and control the ghost worms. Now that his backup plan had overwhelmed Yan Shenjun’s, Lin Jin saw it as a good sign.

This meant that Xiang Yun would soon get in touch with the people of the Mystery Dao Sect.

After learning all this, Lin Jin finally breathed a long sigh of relief.

Like a game of chess, every step had to be planned thoroughly, as every wrong step could lead to eternal damnation. Fortunately for him, Lin Jin’s chess piece had secured a small victory.

Meanwhile, Yan Shenjun had been observing Lin Jin this whole time. Of course, he took notice of Lin Jin’s sudden sigh as well.

“Mr. Lin, why are you sighing?” asked Yan Shenjun with a smile.

That startled Lin Jin.

Due to his carelessness, he had unintentionally revealed something. It didn’t matter though, as he could reason his way out.

Responding with a casual smile, he answered, “How attentive you are, Yan Shenjun. It’s nothing really. I’m impressed that you’re willing to go to such great lengths to achieve something. However, what if it ends up in the hands of another, or what if the final goal isn’t exactly what you imagined? Wouldn’t it be so tragic? That’s why I’m sighing for your sake.”

Sure enough, this passive aggressive answer made Yan Shenjun’s expression falter.

Although Lin Jin words were offensive, he had already said it. Yan Shenjun was annoyed, but the greater his rage, the more he had to stop himself from lashing out.

In his current circumstance, he could not afford to lash out against Lin Jin, at least not until he obtained his trump card.

And so, Yan Shenjun smiled back. “Mr. Lin worries too much. I’ve been planning this for a hundred years now so nothing will go awry. Mr. Lin can rest assured.”
