As they approached the highway, they encountered Hood and several county police officers.

After both sides put down their guns nervously, Hood saw Emmett's appearance and immediately asked:

"What's wrong with you?"

"I'm fine, I was beaten a little"

Emmett saw Hood appear, as if he saw the backbone, he breathed a sigh of relief, and then said to Ethan:

"Ethan, you lead the way for them, I have no problem myself."

Ethan looked outside and could already see the flashing light of the police lights. He nodded and shook hands with several county police officers one by one.

There was no time to exchange greetings, so he went inside with a few people.

After walking some distance, Ethan noticed that the county police officer behind him was already a few meters behind, and asked Hood in a low voice:

"How was the communication just now?"

Hood looked back and said:

"His name is Jason Hood. He escaped from Portland this time. When he found out that his father was gone, he didn't say anything. He just wanted me to help him change his identity."

Ethan pushed aside the branches and continued to ask: "What is your plan?"

Some people here in the United States have a strong sense of family, while others don't take family ties seriously at all. Unless there's nothing going on, they won't interact with each other at all.

It seems that Jason Hood belongs to the latter type.

Ethan slowed down, not knowing what Hood had planned. After all, Jason Hood now had no interest in them, and a report could put Hood in jail.

Hood's eyes were a little dazed, but then he firmed up, "I live with this identity, and I owe his father a favor."

"Just do whatever you want, assess the risks yourself."

"I understand this."

While searching in the woods, they also met Brock who came to support them, and learned that the aborigines who had gone to the Amish gathering place to cause trouble had already retreated for unknown reasons.

He also met Proctor there, and after telling Proctor the news of Rebecca's attack, they returned together.

After twenty minutes, with no new discoveries, Hood had to give up the search.

Back on the roadside, Emmett was sitting behind a police car, holding a piece of gauze to the corner of his eye.

Ethan opened his hands and said, "Waterfa, hasn't the ambulance come yet?"

Emmett shook his head, "I don't know what's going on. Alma said that they have been notified, but the ambulance seems to be very busy today."

"Forget it, I'll send you there."

Without saying a word, Ethan pulled him into the car and drove to the hospital.

Come to the hospital and get Emmet settled.

Siobhan came towards me from the corridor. When she saw Ethan, she quickly asked:

"Why are you in the hospital? Who is injured? Is the search over?"

"Emmett was a little injured, but no one was found." Ethan immediately asked, "Can Rebecca provide some clues."

He knew that Siobhan had sent Rebecca to the hospital, but he didn't know what the situation was like.

Siobhan shook his head, pulled out a notebook and handed it to him.

Ethan flipped through the pages, and found only unclear, unremembered, and unsure words. He handed the book back to Siobhan angrily, asked for the location, and walked toward the stairs.

Proctor was standing next to the door of the ward with his hands folded. His relatives were attacked one after another, and he couldn't help but wonder if his enemies were coming.

Noticing Ethan's gaze, he raised his head.

"Mr. Proctor"

"It's you, thank you for saving Rebecca."

Ethan saw Rebecca lying on the hospital bed through the glass window and said to Proctor:

"It's okay, I just happened to meet her. Can I go in and have a chat with her?"

Proctor thought for a moment and stepped aside.

Ethan pushed open the door, closed it, and walked to the bed.

Rebecca's face was swollen, she opened her eyes and her eyes lit up when she saw it was Ethan.

"Did you catch that guy?"

"No, he escaped."

Ethan pondered for a moment, "Why did you appear alone in the woods? Why did someone suddenly attack you?"

Rebecca gritted her teeth in disappointment, then slowly shook her head.

Ethan glanced at Proctor standing outside and said with a serious face:

"The one who is missing now is your brother, you have to think carefully."

After Rebecca hesitated for a moment, she still said with difficulty:

"I understand, but I still don't understand it."

"I made an appointment with a friend of Solomon's to meet in the woods, but his friend was not there."

"While walking back, a masked man in black rushed out from the roadside and attacked me."

After she finished speaking, she quickly grabbed Ethan's hand.

"Please, you can't tell anyone else about this, especially the people in your police station. It's already very difficult to get Solomon's friend to talk."

"Could it be Solomon's friend who did this to you?" Ethan quickly asked in a low voice.

Rebecca shook her head "She's just a little girl."

Ethan pointed to the clothes on his body, "Tell me your friend's name and I'll ask."

"No, absolutely not."

Rebecca waved her hands quickly, "You don't understand. She will be punished for getting involved in this kind of thing. Even if you ask, she won't tell you anything."

"It's almost dark now. You and I will look for her early tomorrow morning."

"What about your injury?"

"It's not a big problem." Rebecca said forcefully.

Seeing the evidence right in front of him, but having no choice but to do anything, Ethan suddenly felt like he didn't know what to say, so he had no choice but to nod in agreement.

In the evening, Ethan came to Davis Bar.

He said hello to Candy and looked to the corner. Jason Hood was sitting alone drinking wine. When Ethan looked over, he raised the bottle to signal to Ethan.

Candy put half a glass of whiskey in front of him, took off his hat and said:

"You must already know what's going on, right?"

"know a little."

Ethan nodded, took a sip, and then walked towards Jason Hood’s table with the wine glass.

Jason Hood saw him coming and said quickly:

"Sorry, someone is sitting here."

Ethan ignored him, pulled out a chair and sat down.

He slowly took out the cigarette and turned on the lighter. It made a crisp sound, and then the flame burst out.

"I saw you at the police station today. You are the town police officer, right?"

Jason asked uneasily when he saw that the person sitting opposite him ignored him.

Ethan lit the cigarette, took a deep breath, exhaled the smoke, then picked up the wine glass and felt the collision of ice cubes and whiskey.

Jason was not talking at this time, and his eyes occasionally glanced at Candy standing behind the bar.

Candy nonchalantly picked up the cigar placed next to him and bit it on his mouth, and continued to wipe the wine glass with a towel.

Ethan held the filter between his fingers, scratched his itchy scalp with his thumb, and then said:

"Can you tell me your story?"

Jason held the beer bottle with both hands and said nervously: "Officer, I'm just a tourist and I don't want to cause any trouble."

"correct answer."

Ethan picked up the wine glass and continued meaningfully: "I am a friend of Hood. Now please tell me your story again."

Jason turned to look at Candy. After Candy nodded, he gritted his teeth and said:

“I worked for some people in Portland, something went wrong, and then I ended up here.”

Ethan stared at him, "Who? What's the problem?"

"As you think, it's the gang members. I made mistakes in my work, and they want to settle accounts with me."

Jason lowered his eyelids and continued:

"You are Hood's friend, so you should know what happens next. I don't want to cause any trouble. I just want to change my identity and leave the United States."
