My Goalkeeping System
401 Another One Broken
Sunglow United had just lost another player but just like last time, they wanted to take a Unique FC player with them.
Fredinho was receiving medical attention on the pitch now, and because it was taking too long, he had to be carried off the pitch for now so that the game could resume.
"Two straight red cards for Sunglow United players and if Fredinho is unable to continue, that would be two injuries handed to Unique FC while doing that," Jim commented.
"I think Fredinho getting injured will hit them more than Frankie did, I mean he is a very versatile player up front and him getting injured will disrupt Norman's team rotation more than Frankie would." Steve expressed.
Unique FC now had another free kick right at the edge of the box and just as expected, Dave was called over to take the free kick.
"Well, we don't know yet if Fredinho will be able to continue, but Unique have another close-up free-kick and it's Dave standing over the ball once again."
<You know if you score this, you'll create the record for the goalkeeper to convert two corner kicks in a match>
'I'm aware of that, it's not a record I'm particularly interested in creating but it would be cool if I do.' The goalkeeper said subconsciously.
"Will Dave be able to convert this one just like he did with the first one?"
Sunglow United had their four-man wall right inside the box with a player below and all the other players from both teams running around inside the box.
The referee observed carefully to make sure that nothing was out of place and after that, he blew his whistle.
"There's the whistle, it's time to see what the goalkeeper can do with this one," Jim commented.
Dave slowly took three steps backward before he quickly closed up on the ball, and just before kicking the ball, he raised his left hand.
Everyone was expecting him to just go for the goalpost with his enormous shot power and that would have been a great option, but the goalkeeper wanted to try something else.
He sent the ball flying in toward the right and it looked like it was going to go out until Fred broke free from the clutches of the player who was marking him to get his head on the ball with a diving header.
"He's gone for it!"
The goalkeeper stretched his hands toward the area, but there was nothing he could do to stop that as the ball smashed right into the goalpost.
"Goalllllll!"
As soon as that went in, the fans went wild and Fred took off to the sidelines.
He wasn't able to do whatever celebration he wanted to do though as Harry caught up to him in no time and dragged him down.
"They've gotten that second goal and Dave is the mastermind behind it, a goal and an assist from a goalkeeper in a match. Oh, he's done it again." Steve expressed.
"I guess that's what Sunglow United gets for trying to injure another one of their, and speaking of which, it looks like Fredinho is able to continue and will be rejoining the match soon," Jim commented.
"That's another good news for Unique FC, they're two goals up now with Sunglow United having only nine players on the pitch, I don't know but I don't really see Sunglow United getting back up with just nine players."
"Yeah, this second half is going to be a pretty tough one for them."
The match resumed as soon as Fredinho got back on the pitch and now Sunglow United were starting to find it pretty hard to keep hold of the ball because the home team had players in every corner and they just didn't have enough players to deal with them.
Harry pushed the ball forward after intercepting a pass and just before he could run into the player right in front of him, he sent the ball rolling to Carlos who immediately sent it flying over to Fredinho.
Fredinho brought the ball down with his chest and without hesitation, he sent it flying into the box with a lob.
That was supposed to be a cross for Fred or any other person inside the box, but the ball ended up hitting the crossbar before flying out for a goal kick.
"Goodness me, what was that? It really didn't look like it was his intention to go for goal there, but that was so close and the goalkeeper didn't even move."
Despite Unique FC having the upper hand in almost every department, Sunglow United were still getting a few chances here and there.
However, those chances were small fries to Dave who found them to be pretty easy to save, and things stayed like that until one fateful moment.
Mika received the ball down the right wing as Jonas quickly rushed toward him to take the ball from him, but that was a mistake as the young winger neatly put the ball past him with a neat nutmeg.
Pirlo quickly rushed toward him with a sliding tackle but that also didn't work as the winger tipped the ball right over to get it inside the box.
He seemed to have overhit the ball a little at that moment, and that was all Dave needed to be able to get to the ball fast enough and grab it.
"Woah, that was a close one."
Mika looked quite frustrated having missed that wonderful opportunity, but there was nothing he could do about it now.
The match continued with none of the sides being able to find the back of the net.
Unique FC were obviously to dominate especially because Sunglow United were two men down, but they weren't having that much success when it came to scoring.
Fredinho raced down the wing with the ball and once he got closer to the box, he stopped to find someone to give the ball.
He wasn't given enough time to scan the area though as the ball was immediately swept off his feet with a neat tackle.
That didn't look like a foul as the winger immediately got up from the floor and the referee didn't blow his whistle.
However, he seemed to be limping now, and after just taking a few steps forward, he slowly sat down on the floor and raised his hand to do the substitution sign.
"Looks like Fredinho is asking to be substituted here," Jim commented.
"I think Norman saw this coming, Mateo has been warming up on the side for a while now."
On Fredinho's request, he was taken off the pitch and who else to replace him than Mateo.
The youngster received one of the loudest standing ovations in the Wondanimo stadium ever as he made his way to the pitch and that put quite the smile on his face as he waved at the fans.
"You can tell the fans love their Wonder Kid."
"Well, he has been an exceptional player for them so far this season so, it's very well deserved."
Now that Mateo was on the pitch, it was time for the game to resume.
The time being displayed on the board was seventy-eight minutes as Edward threw the ball to Mateo who immediately sent it rolling to Jonas with a backheel pass.
Jonas was immediately surrounded by two players so he had to push the ball back to Martinez who immediately sent it flying back to Dave in the box.
The goalkeeper brought the ball down with his chest before trapping it under his feet.
Sunglow United's goalkeeper knew best to quickly return to his goal line at that moment.
Mika quickly rushed to the goalkeeper to try his luck, but before he could get to him, he pushed the ball forward a little and sent it flying into the pitch.
His target was of course, Mateo.
The winger kept his gaze on the ball until it got close enough to him.
He brought the ball down with his chest and just before the player beside him could attempt to take it from him, he sent it past him with an overhead kick.
As soon as he got the ball past the player, he picked it up and continued toward the goalpost.
He dribbled his way past the right back and squeezed himself past the center back there to get into the box and fire the ball toward the left side of the goalpost with a little bit of elevation.
The goalkeeper managed to get his hand on it, but it wasn't enough to stop it as the ball hit the post before falling into the goalpost.
"And that's how you do it!" Jim screamed.
The winger quickly got up and placed the badge on the kit on his lips as he raced to the sidelines.
"He just got on the pitch now and he already has a goal, that's just how good of a player he is, they're three goals up now." Steve expressed. "That said, that assist from Dave now means that he is now the only goalkeeper in history to ever directly contribute to three goals in a match, the former record holder scored twice in a match to set the record but I guess he still has the record for the most goals scored in a match by a goalkeeper."
