My love game is too abstract

#15 - Backtracking Spell

“Your pickup lines are really low-grade,” the bear said in a low voice.

“Guess I don't have experience hitting on a bear,” Yarrow muttered.

He thought for a moment and still said, “Um, if I can find another way to turn you back into a human, can you leave that Legacy Spell to me?”

The bear slightly opened its eyes, looked at him, but seemed a little disdainful:

“What way?”

“Uh, this…”

Yarrow couldn't say for sure either. He felt that this system was somewhat metaphysical. Ze Xia and Ji Xiaofei at least gave some hints before turning into humans, but the peach fox didn't give any hints at all and just transformed directly.

And this bear, even though it gave a hint before, doesn't have any reaction now.

“I can't say for sure, but maybe you could become friends with me or something?” Yarrow said with a forced smile.

The bear stared at him for a while, then lowered its head.

“Crazy.”

“I kind of think I'm a little crazy too,” Yarrow sighed.

“By the way, how long have you been a bear?” he asked again.

The bear was silent for a while before saying:

“I became like this three years ago.”

“Is it because of your teacher? Qiu Lisha?” Yarrow asked.

“Yes.” The bear nodded.

“Back then, she deceived me, took me to take the wizard's qualification test, but what she really had me do was a curse ritual.”

The bear growled lowly, grinding its teeth.

“In the five years I followed her to study magic, she had been secretly experimenting with curse magic, and I was her experimental subject,”

“Not just me, if I'm not mistaken, those animals she kept in her house were all transformed humans.”

The bear took a deep breath to calm its emotions, and then said:

“After I turned into a bear, I lost my past memories and my consciousness as a human. I was kept by her, just like all the animals in her house.”

“If I hadn't found the diary that was thrown in the corner, saw my past, and awakened my memory, I probably would never have regained consciousness in my life.”

Its voice became low.

“But I remembered. When I saw the content on the diary, all my memories were restored. I knew that my name was Serena Edson, I was a human girl, I still had a family, I wasn't a bear, not her pet.”

“The diary became the anchor for my existence as a human. I hid it and didn't let Qiu Lisha find it. On the surface, I still pretended to be an animal, secretly preparing a way to escape.”

“In order to maintain my human consciousness, I had to recite my name countless times every day and learn to write with a pen in my mouth.”

“Qiu Lisha's magic is very powerful. As long as I move slightly away from her house, I would be discovered. I couldn't escape directly. During that time, she kept taming me and feeding me medicine. I drank the medicine in front of her and secretly spit it out later.”

“And I can't just simply escape. I also have to find a way to turn back. When she went out, I would rummage through her magic books, trying to find a way to break the curse.”

The bear probably hadn't talked to anyone for a long time, and suddenly opened up in front of Yarrow, saying a lot in one breath.

“Then did you find it?”

If it hadn't found a way to turn back, it probably wouldn't have appeared here.

“Yes.” The bear nodded.

“What is it?” Yarrow asked.

The bear was about to open its mouth, but immediately glared at him: “That's none of your business.”

Yarrow thought for a moment: “Is it related to that spell?”

The bear didn't answer and turned its head away.

“Then that should be it.”

“I said it's none of your business. Some things, knowing them may not be a good thing,” the bear said in a low voice.

“Oh, thanks for the reminder.”

Yarrow thought for a while and asked again, “Then how did you escape?”

The bear raised its head, looked at the cave wall, and pondered for a moment: “I have been thinking about this question. I think, probably because my consciousness as a human has not disappeared, my memories are still there, and my thoughts as a human are still there.”

“So, one day, I found that I had relearned how to speak.”

“After that, I began to try to use the spell again, and surprisingly found that my current bear body can actually use the spell!”

“During that time, I had been acting like a real bear, which reduced her vigilance towards me and allowed her to go out with peace of mind. So, taking advantage of this opportunity, I took the things I needed and escaped.”

“Since then, I have been hiding here.”

“Won't your teacher find you? I mean, is it possible that she left some traces on you or something?” Yarrow said.

“I thought of this. Before leaving, I used a purification spell to remove any possible traces. Otherwise, it would be impossible for me to hide here for so long,” the bear said.

After a while, Yarrow asked again, “Then if you turn back, are you going to seek revenge on your teacher?”

The bear didn't speak. After a moment, it slowly said: “I just want to go home and find my mom and dad.”

The atmosphere fell silent. Neither of them spoke.

Time passed slowly. When Yarrow was about to fall asleep, the bear got up and walked towards the cauldron.

It whispered a levitation spell, and the blue viscous liquid in the cauldron was sucked up and dropped into a prepared container next to it.

The bear walked to an open space and dipped the liquid in the container with a bristle brush, and began to draw magical runes on the ground.

The runes were very complex, and Yarrow couldn't understand them at all with his current level of magic.

Ten minutes later, the ground where the bear was located was covered with intricate blue patterns.

Yarrow saw that the wooden box containing the iron sheet flew out of the saddlebag. The box opened, and the iron sheet floated next to the bear.

Another set of clothes flew out of the saddlebag and was placed on the edge of the ritual circle.

At this time, the bear turned its head and looked at Yarrow.

“You, go inside the cave and wait for me to call you out.”

“You don't need to be so wary of me, do you? Even if I'm here with my level of magic, what can I do to you?” Yarrow spread his hands.

The bear glared at him, with a trace of helplessness in its eyes.

“If the ritual is successful, I will be naked after I turn back.”

“Oh.”

Yarrow honestly went inside the cave.

He was still a little curious about how this bear would turn back, so he hid behind a stalagmite, where he could see part of the situation over there.

Yarrow vaguely heard the bear take a deep breath and began to chant a spell, but the spell was very short, obviously not the content on the Legacy Spell.

After chanting, a faint light flickered, adding a touch of red light to the bear's body.

Then there was another chant, coating her body with a layer of purple light.

“This is… applying buffs?” Yarrow thought.

He seemed to understand a little. Probably, with its current level of magic, it couldn't use the spell on the iron sheet, so it needed the help of rituals and various enhancement spells.

After a few chants, the brown bear was already glowing with colorful lights, and the fur on its body was lifted up by the air waves, coated with a layer of colorful brilliance.

The blue lines on the ground began to jump as if they had life, turning into blue threads, surrounding the bear.

Yarrow actually felt divinity from a bear.

If this were in Journey to the West, it would be a mount of a Bodhisattva at the very least.

The iron sheet slowly floated in front of the bear. A flame ignited, and soon, golden symbols appeared on the iron sheet.

The bear began to chant the runes.

There were six lines of runes. It chanted very slowly, taking a full two minutes.

After the chanting was over, a golden light rose from under its feet, wrapping it up like a silkworm cocoon, tightly, without leaving any gaps.

“This is a bit like an advanced purification spell. Should it be the same type?”

Yarrow thought. He had seen a purification spell in a magic book, which also wrapped the whole person into a cocoon like this, and then purified all bad states in it. When breaking out of the cocoon, it was like a new life.

Yarrow imagined what kind of graceful girl would emerge from the cocoon.

But it definitely wouldn't be a beast-eared girl.

Speaking of which, why is it that even though he had interacted with her before, she didn't turn into a human like the peach fox and the others? Could it be because this bear was originally transformed from a human?

Or is it for other reasons?

Comparing what happened before, Yarrow had an idea in his mind, but he wasn't too sure.

The cocoon state lasted for about half an hour. Yarrow noticed that a crack had opened in the position above it. The crack became larger and larger, spreading to the entire golden silkworm cocoon.

With a snap, the silkworm cocoon completely shattered, turning into golden chips and disappearing little by little, revealing what was contained within.

Yarrow widened his eyes and looked at the scene in front of him in disbelief.

What was reborn from the cocoon was still a bear.

Nothing changed.

The bear looked around at itself, and soon became at a loss, and its spirit began to lose control.

“No, impossible!”

It roared, rushed out of the magic circle, ran to the bookshelf, tore out books one by one, and roared while turning the pages:

“Impossible! Where exactly did something go wrong? The Retrogressive Spell can obviously reverse all states! Even if there wasn't enough magic power, I used the enhancement magic circle. Where exactly did something go wrong!”

Yarrow slowly walked out, looked at the bear that was gradually collapsing, and wanted to say something, but at this moment, a high-pitched laughter resounded throughout the cave.

“Where did something go wrong? Haha! You're so ridiculous! Serena, let me tell you, nothing went wrong, the only mistake is that you are now a bear!”

Like a thunderbolt from the blue, after a dazzling light, a person appeared in front of them, a red-haired woman wearing a mage robe.

The bear's expression at this time was completely stunned, its body stiffened there, its eyes straightened, and it slowly uttered a word:

“Teacher.”

Obviously, the person who came was the one who turned Serena into a bear, that perverted Archmage, Qiu Lisha.

Yarrow's eyes were immediately attracted by her extremely revealing dress, and he murmured:

“What the diary said is true, this woman really dresses like a prostitute.”
