#168 - Contraband Containment
【164 Under Review】
Yarrow carried a heavy box into the storage room, grunting as he placed it on a nearby shelf.
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, he turned to Ron, who was recording notes, and said,
"This is the last box. There shouldn't be anything else to move, right? Senior."
Ron looked up from his ledger and gave him a faint smile: "That's right, thank you for your hard work, Yarrow."
"It's nothing,"
Yarrow waved his hand, feeling Ron's gratitude, and his Spirit Layer count increased by 2.
Since the Wishing House opened, he occasionally received some normal requests for help.
Although they were all small matters, such as delivering letters for someone, helping to prune branches in the garden, and spraying insecticide in the school cafeteria's poultry farm a few days ago.
He felt like a character in a game, with NPCs constantly popping up with question marks over their heads, waiting for him to handle their problems.
Today, Ron, the Minister of Finance of the Student Union, came to him and asked him to help organize the confiscated student contraband in a restricted items management and storage room.
"Well, the item inventory is correct. Today's work is considered complete." Ron nodded, putting away his list notebook.
"By the way, Senior Ron, why does the Finance Department manage contraband?" Yarrow asked.
"The confiscated contraband used to be managed by the Investigation Department, but for a while, the Student Union's finances were tight, so they considered selling some of the confiscated contraband to raise funds. Then, they had our Finance Department count the value of these items, so this room was temporarily designated under our name, and it's still under our management to this day," Ron said.
"Selling contraband to raise funds... The Student Union's internal atmosphere is truly virtuous..." Yarrow thought.
"Thank you for your help today, Yarrow. Would you like to have afternoon tea together later? I just bought a box of high-quality Baumile tea yesterday," Ron invited.
"Oh, I'll pass. It's getting late today. I'll head back first," Yarrow said.
"Alright then."
Ron didn't insist. He led him out of the storage room, and just as he was about to close the door, he saw a wooden box placed at the entrance.
He made a "Huh" sound.
"There's another box here? I didn't notice it just now."
He squatted down and opened the wooden box, finding that it was full of strange things.
"These are..."
"It seems like some inventions from the Department of Whimsical Ideas. Because they are too strange and abstract, some of them even they themselves don't know what their effects are," Ron said.
He picked up one of the clown masks.
"I remember this one. As long as you wear it, it will trigger clown incidents one hundred percent. Being rejected when pursuing girls, getting your face slapped when trying to show off, even everyday things you do will become a laughing stock."
"How terrible," Yarrow said.
Ron opened the item list and compared the items inside one by one.
Finally, he frowned slightly.
"There's a discrepancy with the contents of the officially reported list. These items weren't recorded in the files back then."
Confiscated contraband items are all recorded in writing. If there is one extra or one missing, it cannot be accounted for.
"Then what should we do?" Yarrow asked.
Ron shrugged and closed the wooden box, picking it up.
"Just destroy them. That way, when the books are audited, they will still be accurate."
That's exactly what the Finance Department would do.
"How about... just leave this to me?"
Yarrow said. In fact, he was curious about the items inside and wanted to know if there were any other strange and bizarre props.
"Can you do it?" Ron asked.
"Leave it to me!" Yarrow patted his chest and said.
"Then I'll have to trouble you, Yarrow."
Ron casually handed him the wooden box.
At the same time, he received another layer of Wishing Spirit from Ron in the Magic Jar.
Carrying the wooden box, he went straight home.
Only Ji Xiaofei and Lulula were watching a disc in the living room. The projector was showing a story about three little demons.
"Welcome back, Yarrow," Ji Xiaofei called out casually.
"Where's Tao Hu?" he asked.
"Tao Hu just went out, saying she was going to buy props for cultivation," Lulula said.
"What bad timing. I wanted her to help me see what these things are."
Yarrow put down the wooden box and opened it.
The two little ones' eyes were immediately drawn over.
"What are these, Yarrow?" Ji Xiaofei moved closer, asking curiously.
"Confiscated contraband from school, they want me to help destroy them," Yarrow said.
"Contraband?"
Hearing these three words, Lulula, who had just picked up a quill, immediately dropped it.
"Yarrow, why did you bring contraband back?" Lulula asked worriedly.
"I mainly wanted to see if there was anything fun," Yarrow said.
"So, does that mean we don't know what these things are for?" Ji Xiaofei asked.
"That's why I'm looking for Tao Hu. If she's here, she should be able to know what these things are for," Yarrow said.
"Tao Hu isn't here, so why don't we try it ourselves first? Find out how to use these things?" Ji Xiaofei said excitedly.
"It feels like we're exploring the unknown!"
"I'm just afraid something strange will happen, although it won't be fatal..." Yarrow said.
He was still afraid that he would encounter those strange props he had collected in the Willow Gold Exchange, such as the History King's Notebook that would make people socially awkward.
"Don't be afraid, Yarrow is here anyway," Ji Xiaofei said.
She picked up the quill that Lulula had just dropped from the wooden box and examined it carefully.
"It's the same as an ordinary pen."
Ji Xiaofei stood up, trotted to the side, brought a small notebook, and ran back.
Then, she picked up the quill and tried to write on the notebook.
As she wrote, her eyes widened.
"The words that are written are out of control!"
Lulula and Yarrow both leaned over to look at the handwriting she left on the notebook:
"I actually broke the vase yesterday."
"Vase?"
Yarrow remembered that a vase had broken in the hallway yesterday, and it was thought that the fat rabbit, Xiao Hui, had broken it when it ran around and bumped into the table.
But now it seems that there is another secret.
The two of them focused their eyes on Xiao Ji's face.
Ji Xiaofei looked at the pen, then looked at the words she had written.
"This is a quill that frames people!"
"It's clearly a quill that writes the truth!" Yarrow was furious. "Speak! Did you break the vase yesterday and then bring Xiao Hui over to take the blame for you!"
"Umm... yes, I accidentally broke it while looking for Xiao Hui, so... so Xiao Hui is also half responsible..." Ji Xiaofei said with a sad face.
"You still want to shirk responsibility. It's one thing to break the vase, but you dare to lie. Come here! Stick your butt out!" Yarrow shouted.
Ji Xiaofei pouted and walked over, slowly turning around, sticking her little butt out at him. Yarrow directly slapped her butt.
Ji Xiaofei groaned in pain, pouting as she threw the quill aside.
"Bad Yarrow, bad pen!"
