Mystery: I Married the Queen of Mystery

#92 - Traces of the "Rose School"

Max's huge revolver was a magical item; the bullets it fired, besides having a bit of armor-piercing ability, had almost the same power as a hand grenade.

Just now, this bullet had torn the man's head open, and his left eyeball had fallen out.

But the man only cried out in pain, and then, glaring with his only remaining scarlet eye, he smashed open the window in the corridor and jumped from the third floor.

The reason this guy ran away from the front was because two members of the "Mechanical Heart" team were guarding the back of the building.

In front, downstairs, there was also a member of "Mechanical Heart" and two armed policemen guarding the area.

It's just that the two policemen were so frightened by the man's bloody head that they forgot to draw their guns.

Bang, bang, bang~

The "Mechanical Heart" member had a stronger mental endurance and fired continuously at the man.

The man was shot twice in the chest and abdomen, but he still turned around at an extremely fast speed and ran towards the carriage, wanting to use it as cover.

He ran extremely fast; whether it was Max, who jumped down from the third floor to chase him, or the "Mechanical Heart" member ambushing below, they were as slow as snails compared to him.

Fortunately, there weren't many pedestrians on this road; the few who were there, upon hearing the gunshot, immediately covered their heads and scurried for cover, otherwise, they would have been startled by the bloody scene.

The man ran across the road, getting closer and closer to the carriage.

Suddenly, a cold light shot out from a carriage; it was a metal arrow with a simple wind-based magic array.

The strong man quickly dodged; although it didn't hit a vital point, the metal arrow pierced into his shoulder.

But this little injury was not worth mentioning to the man; just as he was about to continue running, a second arrow shot out, this time aiming for the man's leg.

Although the man had extremely strong resistance to attacks, being shot in the leg would affect his running, so he had to jump away to dodge.

The third arrow shot at the man's groin. The pain from his head, and the urgency to escape, made the man roar and rush towards the carriage from which the arrow was shot, wanting to overturn the carriage and crush the people inside.

Fortunately, with Audis's obstruction, Max and his teammates also caught up.

Bang~

The oversized revolver fired again, hitting the man's left shoulder, instantly tearing it open again, exposing the shoulder blade.

The bullet's enormous force made the man stagger, almost falling.

And Audis in front seized the opportunity and shot an arrow into the man's heart.

The man immediately stopped, making some eerie roars while trying hard to claw at his chest, wanting to pull the arrow out.

Bang~

Max's oversized revolver was fired for the third time, hitting the man's back. A large piece of flesh was blown away, and the heart pierced by the metal arrow fell out of his chest cavity.

The man let out a scream, fell forward, and convulsed on the ground.

Max came closer and fired another shot into the man's back, only feeling relieved after the other party's heart was completely shattered.

Several members of the "Mechanical Heart" team surrounded him one after another. Max put the gun back into its holster and gave a thumbs up towards the carriage.

Audis in the carriage smiled slightly, took down the arrow he had just placed on the crossbow, and looked at the bloody man on the ground, whispering: "Werewolf!"

Then he smiled and said: "This pathway is really resistant to beatings."

After speaking, he guessed that this guy was eighty or ninety percent a member of the "Rose School".

Previously, Audis had received news that after the "Rose School's" indulgent faction was heavily hit by "Mechanical Heart", several strongholds were exposed.

It's just that the people in those strongholds had already withdrawn. Judging from the clues left behind, the "Rose School" seemed to be withdrawing from Backlund in an orderly manner.

At that time, Audis was a little strange; how could a mystical organization that everyone was shouting to beat be withdrawing so "openly"?

In his opinion, the "Rose School" exposing so many strongholds at once was actively providing clues to the official extraordinaries, like taking a loudspeaker and shouting "I'm leaving" while leaving Backlund.

At that time, he suspected that the "Rose School's" retreat was a show for others to see.

Maybe it was for "Mechanical Heart" and other official extraordinaries to see, or maybe it was for Sharon and them to see; anyway, there were many viewers.

With the exposure of this werewolf, the play of the "Rose School's" retreat was also acted in vain.

Under Max's command, the "Mechanical Heart" quickly cleaned up the battlefield, and the blood on the road was cleaned up.

It was not daring to perform spirit channeling on such cultists, but simply taking the corpse away, waiting for the extraordinary characteristics to be extracted.

Then, under Max's leadership, they entered the "werewolf's" room.

Audis, in the carriage across the road, saw two policemen rush out of the room not long after entering, vomiting wildly in the corridor, presumably having discovered something extremely bloody inside.

About twenty minutes later, Max, with a gloomy face, came out of the room, boarded the carriage, and sat opposite Audis: "These lunatics."

Audis smelled the faint stench of corpses on the other party's body: "There are corpses inside?"

"There are three corpses," Max said: "One of them has rotted very badly, but because the windows were sealed, the smell didn't spread outside.

"That's the guy's bedroom; he's been sleeping with a rotting corpse recently."

Audis frowned: "Alright, alright, no need to be so detailed."

Then he was a little strange: "Why didn't he dispose of the corpse? A normal person wouldn't keep a corpse that could expose themselves at any time... well, their thinking might really be different from normal people."

"The church does have some guesses about this," Max explained: "Because similar things have happened before, some 'Mechanical Heart' members believe that the rotting corpse should have some materials needed for the 'werewolf's' dark rituals."

Audis nodded: "That guess is reasonable."

Then he asked: "How long has this guy been living here?"

"More than half a year," Max said: "Presumably, he is a 'sleeper cell' arranged by the 'Rose School'.

"It's just that this guy's recent state doesn't seem to be very good, so he needs some dark rituals to stabilize his state. In order to avoid being discovered by official extraordinaries, he used his abilities to obtain one or two subordinates…"

After the werewolf uses his own werewolf venom to immerse someone's body for a period of time, he can turn the other party into a subordinate who only obeys him.

These subordinates will gain a portion of the "werewolf's" abilities, but these monsters have very short lives.

Max continued: "This 'werewolf' is relatively cautious. The subordinates he transformed are all vagrants. People like that, not to mention one or two missing, even if ten or eight are missing, no one will notice.

"Yesterday, he asked a subordinate to go to the Gar Herbal Medicine Store, far away in the West District, to buy 'Golden-edged Sunflowers' to dispel the traces of dark rituals in the room.

"So our first round of investigation didn't find any clues.

"And because werewolves have the ability to resist divination, we didn't find any clues using divination-type extraordinary means."

Audis frowned: "Why do I always feel like we've missed a key part?"

"Your feeling is right," Max took out two portraits. They were provided by Audis, one of Bernie, who was recommended by Audis to buy "Golden-edged Sunflowers".

Audis didn't know the name of the person on the other one. That was the medicine purchaser received by the clerk, Kaina, when he wasn't in the herbal medicine store. He directly purchased "Golden-edged Sunflowers".

Max said: "We didn't find the corpse of this Bernie above, we only found the corpse of this other person who bought 'Golden-edged Sunflowers'!

"He hadn't been dead for long. After buying the 'Golden-edged Sunflowers', he lived for a while, probably dying this morning."

Audis clapped his hands: "I understand what the key part is! This 'werewolf' looked very crazy when he was escaping just now, but he is usually quite cautious.

"Since someone was sent to my store in the morning to buy 'Golden-edged Sunflowers', even if there was still a need, it was impossible to go to my store again! Even if they went to buy, Bernie wouldn't honestly tell the address here.

"It's like… it's like Bernie deliberately told me that there was a 'werewolf' in bad shape here."

Max took out a cigarette, lit it, and took a puff before saying: "This is also a place I haven't figured out. Bernie's appearance is too strange."

"Someone is informing," Audis said very affirmatively: "The other party knows that I am a 'Mechanical Heart' informant, so they let Bernie appear to attract my attention."

Max put his hand out of the car window: "This is indeed a reasonable guess, but who would Bernie be sent by?"

Audis thought for a while before saying: "I'll try to contact the restrained faction of the 'Rose School' in Backlund, but don't have too much hope, I may not be able to get in touch."

The first suspect is of course Miss Sharon. She got the clue about this "werewolf", but was afraid of exposing herself, so she told "Mechanical Heart" through Audis.

But the problem is, Audis had no contact with the restrained faction before this. How did Miss Sharon know his informant status?

Max nodded: "Having clues is better than not having any. I will continue to look for Bernie through the police. Maybe some wild extraordinary discovered the 'werewolf's' trail and contacted us through you."

Audiss let out an "Mm," sound. "I don't rule out that possibility."

Afterward, a carriage with a "Mechanical Heart" emblem transported Audiss back to the herbalist's shop. Upon arriving at the resting room behind the shop and confirming that no one was in the courtyard, Audiss suddenly spoke to the air, "I need to speak with the 'Mysterious Queen.'"

After waiting for a minute or two without any change, he repeated, "I need to speak with the 'Mysterious Queen.'"

He repeated this for almost half an hour. Just as Audiss was about to give up, a phrase suddenly appeared on the table in front of him: I am here.
